The 560SL was the range-topping version of the R107 SL-Series, the third generation of Mercedes-Benz flagship grand tourer. Produced from 1971 to 1989, the R107 is the second-longest production run in Mercedes-Benz history behind the mighty G-Class. This 1986 example is finished in Light Ivory over a Brazil leather interior and was said to be originally delivered in Massachusetts before spending the majority of its life in Florida under the care of a Mercedes enthusiast and subsequently acquired by the current owner in 2021. Showing 96103 miles on the odometer which has ceased to function, therefore the total miles are unknown, this 1986 560SL is now being offered at auction by the seller based out of North Carolina.
The exterior comes finished in Light Ivory (DB-623) with a matching removable hardtop and brown retractable convertible soft top. The seller reports the exterior was refinished sometime in the late 90s, and the body shows some paint chips and imperfections. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. Equipment includes North American-market quad headlamps, front foglights, chrome-trimmed US impact bumpers, window moldings, and mirror caps. This SL rides on 15” Gullideckal alloy wheels which are mounted with Maxxis tires showing date codes from 2020.
The interior is trimmed in Brazil (273) brown leather covering the seats and door panels, accented by a contrasting black dashboard, decorative wood veneers, and embroidered Mercedes-Benz floor mats. The seller reports regular wear to the seating surfaces and wood trim, and reports the odometer has stopped turning at 96,103 miles. Amenities include automatic air conditioning, a locking glove box, a wind deflector, power windows, and a replacement Panasonic stereo.
Power comes from a 5.6L M117 V8 which was factory rated at 227 HP and 279 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a four-speed automatic transmission. The 560SL was factory equipped with power steering, a fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes as standard. The seller reports the brakes will squeal occasionally on a full stop, and a recent oil service was carried out in preparation for the sale.
This sale will include 2 sets of keys and a clean title.

@geo_cfarmJenny2914 yes. Parts availability is generally very good for these cars. They had a long production run and have quite a strong following, so there are also good aftermarket suppliers
Are odometer/dashboard parts still available from MB?
Bid in the amount of $500
@driveforfive no, we do not have the original radio. The previous owner, while a Mercedes enthusiast, did not keep records. Upon purchase, the current owner brought to an independent Mercedes specialist to be looked over. The timing chains weren’t mentioned, so I don’t have an update there.
The soft top is brown and in really nice condition. Photos have already been uploaded to Pcar and they should activate them on the auction soon (tomorrow?)
Underside pictures and cold start videos are being made tomorrow. I hope to get them uploaded to the auction ASAP. Thanks
@besi OK thanks lol. These 560s strike me as ageless but maybe I am too young. Few more questions:
- Is the original radio available/included with the sale?
- do you have older service records for the car and/or do you know if timing chain/guides/rails have been looked at?
- how is the condition of the soft-top? there are no photos of it
- how is the undercarriage? there are no photos. Can you post any, please?
- also, a cold start video would be useful
Thanks
@driveforfive Not sure on the odometer. It was not working when it was purchased last year. It has been driven approximately 500 miles since then. The previous owner had been driving it little lately as he had explained that he aged out of driving it
I see the odometer was at 95k in 2011. Do you know when the odometer stopped working?
