Named after the Westfalia region of Germany where they are based, Wefalia-Werke is a renowned builder of Volkswagen camper vans. This 1985 example comes finished in Bronze Beige Metallic over a Beige Velour interior with an optional 4-speaker radio and features a “pop top” roof, a refrigerator, a stove, cabinetry, privacy curtains, a ceiling lamp, and much more. It is said to have been fitted with a 2.2-liter Subaru engine and an upgraded transmission via a conversion kit supplied by Kennedy Engineering. This vintage VW camper is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

Vanagons built between 1979 and 1985 featured round headlights and basic steel or chrome-plated steel bumpers with plastic endcaps. This example comes finished in an optional Bronze Beige Metallic with contrasting yellow pinstriping and rides on aftermarket wheels. The seller notes some minor signs of road wear, and additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Beige Velour upholstery and features reclining and swiveling front captain chairs. The rear includes a fold-out sleeper bench as well as a kitchenette with a stove, refrigerator, and sink. Other amenities include a fold-out table, storage compartments, privacy curtains, a ceiling lamp, and a “pop top” roof which reveals extra headspace as well as a roof-mounted double bed.

A 2.2-liter four-cylinder Subaru engine was installed by VolksRepair in Sarasota, Florida in June of 1997. Up to 130 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission sourced from Bus Depot has also been fitted. This example reportedly underwent this conversion at approximately 173k miles, while the engine had roughly 44k miles and the transmission has less than 2,500 miles upon installation. The seller adds that the conversion kit was provided by Kennedy Engineering, and other service items at the time included the fitment of new front brake pads, rear brake shoes, rear wheel cylinder, sink pump, clutch, and headlight switch. Additionally, the seller states that the air and oil filters were changed in preparation for the sale, there are no outstanding maintenance items at this time, and a host of documentation will accompany the sale.

This sale will include a clean title, a window sticker, and a host of service documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “To all the VW Enthusiasts out there that are looking for a vehicle like this. This is a classic VW Westfalia Vanagon, superbly maintained and ready to go. This is one for a VW collector to add to his collection.  Or someone wanting to travel in style. Everything is in good working condition, with well-maintained service history, and many records to prove it. Also has all of the original screens on top of all of the new modifications and maintenance to ensure this camper lasts for many more years to come.”

@Peabo I've been trying to get a hold of the seller since you messaged me. I think his shop is closed today for the holiday. I can't answer your question about the seller's work around for no O2 input. If he calls me back I will immediately answer you. Seller told me when he brought the car here that all the camping equipment works.

I see that there is no catalytic converter or O2 sensor. Please ask seller his work around for no O2 input.

Does all the camping equipment work: stove, refrigerator, water pump and tank?

    Thank you

@bobhawkins I ran a paint meter everywhere on the car just now and it's consistent ranges everywhere. With a bright light in the dark went around the car and there's no sand marks, no dust, no over spray, and the texture is 100% the same all around the car. Also, the hand-painted pinstripping is identical color, width and fading everywhere on the car. I'm not a paint expert, but 39 years selling cars and the paintmeter telling me what it told me my OPINION is that it's 100% original paint.

  • Proteng (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@VOC4S Indeed it is a smoke-free and mold free Vanagon. No odd smells like sweaty body, or old dirty fabric. It's a clean example.
