Now available for auction is this 1985 Porsche 944 presented in Guards Red over a black interior. This 1985 example is said to have been kept in outstanding condition over the years while remaining highly original.  With approximately 40k miles shown on the odometer, this 2-owner 944 Coupe is now being offered by its seller in Texas backed by a clean Carfax report.

Said to have been garage-kept and barely driven under the current ownership, the Guards Red finish is noted to be in excellent overall condition with the exception of a small chip on the lower driver’s side rocker panel.  Full ceramic coating was applied within the last 6 months and the paint is reported to be all original (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  A removable vinyl racing stripe has been installed along the top of the car and a genuine 944 Turbo lower valence has been added, although this Coupe remains otherwise stock in its appearance with factory 15” “Cookie Cutter” wheels.

Inside, this 944 is appointed with a black leather interior featuring Porsche logo upholstery on the front and rear seats.  The cabin is reported to be in very good condition with some minor hairline cracks on the dashboard.  Aside from a carpet dashboard cover, the interior is said to be highly original with the factory Blaupunkt radio remaining fully functional along with all other gauges and accessories.

Representing the final iteration of the 944 Series 1, this Coupe is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.5 L inline 4-cylinder engine which sends 150 HP to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle.  All routine service is reported to be up to date and the seller confirms this 944 to be in excellent driving condition.

This sale will be accompanied by 1 master key, owner’s books, service records from the current ownership, tools, a spare tire and car cover.  This impeccably well maintained 1985 example makes the perfect transaxle Porsche for any discerning enthusiast, do not let this opportunity pass you by.

@JET No Sir, This is the 1985.1!
The 1985.2 has the improved items.

Is this considered the 1985.5 with the Porsche vs. VW improvements from the 1985?

    @Tor0 The odometer works fine!

  • Tor0 (registered bidder) 4 yearsago

I'm assuming this has a working odometer. do you know if it ever broke and got fixed?

    All Interested,
I have found an invoice that was stapled to the Maintenance record book of the car where in 2004 The Water Pump was changed as well the balance tensioners and belt were changed.

I will also post a picture of the Codes Tag.
    Thanks for looking!

@mec011 The A/C works just fine (might need a little re-charge of freon)

  • RNickolas (seller) 4 yearsago

@David944s2 I do not have any Paint Readings.
The car was buffed professionally when I bought it and has had a Ceramic coat applied as recent as 7 months ago.

@RNickolas It is a beautiful car; looks clean enough under the hood that you could eat off it!

Would it be possible to add a photo of the options tag?

So from the discussion, it's been at least 6 years (maybe 11?} since the timing belt has been replaced?

Also, don't think it was explicitly mentioned, but does the A/C work?

    Thanks, and GLWTA!

Beautiful example . Have you put a paint meter to the car and if so, can you share readings?

  • RNickolas (seller) 4 yearsago

@Spokayman I have done only oil changes every year I had it, last was about 4 months ago.
    All other.... do not know,

  • Spokayman (registered bidder) 4 yearsago

    @RNickolas @RNickolas,
    Thanks for the reply.
So you bought it 11 years ago and not six as stated in the writeup?
Do you know when the timing and balance shaft belts, and water pump were last replaced?
Likewise the oil, brake fluid, etc?

  • RNickolas (seller) 4 yearsago

    Hi Spokayman,
This car was bought by an Air Force Pilot in Denver, CO (Stevenson Porsche) just before he moved to Alamogordo, NM (Stationed at Holloman AFB). when he retired from the Air Force he moved to El Paso, TX (about 90 miles south)....he registered/titled it in Texas. It was traded in for another car and that is when I bought from Dealer.
The car has been driven very little, less than 2000 miles since I bought it. No major repairs have been performed since I bought it. I do not know if any repairs were made by the previous owner. The car runs like new and It has no mechanical issues.
This car is part of my 13 car collection that is garaged in an A/C warehouse.
You will not be disappointed with this car! Very few in this shape.

  • Spokayman (registered bidder) 4 yearsago

Correction to the earlier post, it looks like you might be the third (not fourth) owner as of 2009.

  • Spokayman (registered bidder) 4 yearsago

    Hi @RNickolas,
The 944 looks very nice and well cared for.

I was curious to see if there was any maintenance information included, and when I looked at the CarFax it indicates that there were three prior owners with the car changing ownership for the fourth time 11 years ago. Is this correct and do you have records of maintenance, particularly the important items such as timing/balance shaft belts, etc?
    Thx.
