Finished in Guards Red over Black leather upholstery, this 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa is among the few cars that were factory-equipped with the M491 Turbo Look option, adding the wide bodywork, spoilers, brakes, suspension, and wheels of the 930 Turbo. It features an air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine, a 5-speed manual transaxle, power-adjustable seats, air conditioning, automatic heating control, cruise control, a central locking system, and an aftermarket MOMO Prototipo steering wheel. Acquired by the current owner in 2014, this 911 has been sparingly driven ever since and benefits from a major recent engine-out service and reconditioning at a cost of approximately $28k. This rare Turbo-Look Targa is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of Illinois.
The exterior came factory-finished in Guards Red and equipped with the M491 Turbo Look option, adding wide fenders, a front chin spoiler, and a Tea Tray rear spoiler from the 930 Turbo. Other equipment includes a removable vinyl-covered roof panel, a black wraparound Targa bar, a heated glass rear dome window, headlamp washers, integrated front fog lights, power mirrors, a periscope-style third brake light, black stone guard decals, and Turbo-spec 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. The seller indicates new tires are installed, the Targa top was recently reupholstered, and a light paint correction was carried out to achieve a lustrous shine. The exterior is described to be in very good condition, apart from some paint cracks beneath the rear spoiler, a cut on top of the left rear bumperette, and a circular chip in the windshield. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The Black leather interior includes power-adjustable front seats, an aftermarket MOMO Prototipo three-spoke steering wheel, power windows, a central locking system, air conditioning, automatic heating control, cruise control, and an aftermarket stereo head unit. The original steering wheel and Blaupunkt radio are included in the sale. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional, and the A/C unit was replaced during the recent reconditioning. The seller notes the speaker grilles are cracked, and the glovebox is slightly delaminated, although the cabin remains in very good condition otherwise.
Rated at 207 HP and 192 lb-ft of torque, the air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transaxle. The M491 Turbo Look option equips this 911 with the stiffer suspension and larger cross-drilled brakes of the 930 Turbo. A major service recently performed by Olsen Motorsports included an engine-out overhaul, a new distributor, fuel lines, belts, shocks, struts, tie rods, brake pads, brake rotors, and a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection. The PPI is available for reference in the gallery.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, the original Blaupunkt radio and steering wheel, service records, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this car for just over 10 years. It's always covered and stored in a climate-controlled garage. I've always loved the wide body look, and this 911 checks all the boxes. Factory M491 in Guards Red, black interior, and a targa top, hell yeah! You won't see this combo very often. I don't drive it as much as I should anymore, so I'm ready to sell it to someone who really wants to have some fun and show this thing off. I went ahead, for your peace of mind, and had an extensive service done; from tip to tail (whale) everything was gone through and replaced with OEM parts from a very reputable Porsche shop here in IL. She is ready to go to her next home, bid with confidence. Good luck.”

@tff Thanks for the questions. I do not know about the paintwork being single stage or with clearcoat. The car is stored on a lift and does not leak as I keep another classic safely underneath it and have for years. I believe the mileage to be true, I have receipts of service work through it's life with mileage that all lines up. Slides 97 and 121: it could be a tape line, that would be a logical place to do it, I've uploaded 2 more pics, the white line is polish residue, I used my fingernail in the middle and wiped it away (see new pics). Slide 120, there is no peeling paint, this is a zero rust car. Slide 170 - recommendations were not done, I didn't feel the negative battery cable was damaged enough to warrant it, there is the a very small amount of green terminal corrosion but it was so minimal I elected to not do that and leave that and the rest up to the new buyer. Let me know if I answered all your questions! Thanks.

@seller. Classic looking 911, nice. A few questions...
-Do you know if the present paintwork is single stage or with clearcoat? (Polishing and seeing if rag turns red would answer this)
-Have you noticed an oil drips from the RMS 'seepage'?
-Do you believe the mileage to be true miles?
-Slides 97 and 121 show what is perhaps a tape line for the repaint, near the outer edge of the door jamb. Is that the case there?
-Slide 120... looks like peeling paint with some rust? Is that the case?
-Were the recommendations on slide 170 completed?
Thank you!

@commok Thank you. I checked through my text messages and emails with Olsen, no mention of discussing rear main, I do see their comment on the invoice though but I don't recall being asked if I wanted that done too. I would say no it was not replaced.
Beautiful car. Did Olsen replace the rear main seal they said was seeping while they had the engine out?
@Hoganshero Unfortunately I do not have the air compressor. I do have the original toolkit, jack, manuals, 2 extra keys and the manual for original radio ( also have the original radio and steering wheel that will be included with the car). Pics uploaded.

@commok You did not miss it. There is no sticker remaining on the underside of the hood. The best I can give you is the COA (pic 167) that shows the options on the car: Cruise Control, Full Power Seat - Right, Alarm System, Automatic Heat Control, Central Locking System, Blaupunkt Radio, Steering Wheel w/Raised Hub, Turbo Look and Dunlop Tires.
Bid in the amount of $50,421
Forgot to ask previously, and I don’t see in the description. Does the car come with the original air compressor?
I may have missed it - is there a picture of the underside of the hood sticker with options?

This question is for the bidder community: Original paint=5 mil, repaint 10 mil. Fenders on this car 20plus… what could it be ??? Lacquer vs enamel - red is single stage. Anyway - why 20 mils ?
Bid in the amount of $47,000

Nice Targa
Looks to me that the car is sitting a bit too high and it will look much better if it is lowered a bit
@jay993 I have only positives to say about them, they know Porsche, communicate well and do good work. Do a shop tour and speak to the techs like I did. Quality work, quality guys.

@seller, what are your thoughts on Olsen Motorsports? I see you have used them a lot. I enjoy their work posted online. Just wondering, thanks. They seem like a reputable shop
Nice work on the drive videos

@Hoganshero Thank you! No signs of rust anywhere, I've uploaded a few pics of rockers, under carpet in the frunk, engine bay and inside a rear wheel well. Solid everywhere. Under my ownership the car lived in a climate garage in New England and I've only put ~8000 miles since I've owned it. I have done all the oil changes (about 1 every other year just because). For the last 7 years it has been stored in a climate controlled garage and serviced once prior to Olsen for a front driver wheel bearing. Up until the recent service there hasn't been any major repairs. Picture of the paint crack on the rear spoiler has been uploaded, it was there when I bought the car and hasn't gotten any worse. I've uploaded pictures of the fuse boxes ( covers on and off) too. The car is available for viewing, I'll just need a bit of notice to adjust my schedule. Thanks again! Let me know if you'd like anything else.

Hello seller. Beautiful M491! Iconic guards and black combo!
Few questions:
Is there any evidence of rust, especially in the areas of the cowl, rockers, kidney bowls?
Who performed the routine maintenance during your years of ownership? Noted in the carfax is the extensive work performed by Olsen, but I didn’t see any other recent entries.
Can you provide pictures of the fuse box and fuses and of the paint cracks beneath the rear spoiler as described in the description?
Is the car available to be viewed in person?
Thanks for your time.
@Audiajihn I've uploaded 2 additional pictures and circled the areas. The bumperette has a 2 inch slice. The windshield has a circle chip the size of a pea, and one other very small mark that I couldn't get a clear picture of.

can't
Would you mind providing pics focused on the paint flaws, window chip and damaged bumperette? I can seem to make them out from the present gallery. Thanks !!
@vonmec First off thanks for the compliment on the car. I'd say it is a combination of reasons; I'm looking to sell to downsize, free up some space, I'm relocating hopefully soon and this car is in the best shape it's ever been since I've owned it.
Great listing - I am struggling to come up with any questions! Why are you selling is beauty?
Bid in the amount of $10,000
@Audiajihn Yes, I had Olsen Motorsports do a paint correction/polish in Nov 2024. You’re 100% right that wasn’t a repaint by any means.
I did see on a receipt a line item for "Paint Correction" $1500. That wouldn't repaint the entire car properly, but just thought you might want to know.
@Audiajihn I just went through every receipt that I have on the car, I don't have any documentation on any repaint. It would have been pre-2014. Sorry!
Hello! The paint meter readings show a complete repaint. Do you have documentation of the repaint, ie glass out rotisserie repaint, other? Looks like a nice job from the pics. Love the COA and engine rebuild receipts.
