This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa came factory-finished in Black over a Champagne Beige leather interior and is said to have been originally owned by former Mayor of San Francisco Willie Brown. In addition to its full leather upholstery, the car was optioned with Recaro Sports Seats, 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels, Sport Shocks, power accessories, air conditioning, and a Blaupunkt Monterey SQR23 which was recently refurbished. It later spent time in Oregon where it was acquired by the current owner in 2007. This Targa has since undergone attentive maintenance and is now being offered for auction out of Florida while showing approximately 96k miles on the odometer.

The exterior is finished in Black and includes a front valence with integrated fog lights, a removable roof panel, a satin black Targa bar, and body-colored headlight rings. The car rides on factory 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels that were dressed in a set of new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires about 7 years ago within the last 4k miles. Refurbishment completed by the current owner includes rebuilding the roof panel with new headliner upholstery and installing new seals for the Targa top and taillight assemblies. The seller states the car has been garage-kept throughout their ownership and notes some small chips on the hood and a few minor imperfections throughout the body as well as a chip on the windshield. The rear decklid is also said to have been refinished during the current ownership to address a paint chip. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Champagne Beige leather which spans the dashboard, door panels, and power-adjustable Sports Seats. Other equipment includes air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, a central locking system, and a sound system paired with an original Blaupunkt Monterey SQR23 radio. The seller notes the radio was recently refurbished and the odometer/tachometer gauge was previously rebuilt and a corresponding invoice is available. Other reconditioning carried out by the current owner included the installation of new carpeting, door sills, mechanical hood struts, and window switches as well as leather rejuvenation and an R134a refrigerant conversion for the A/C.

An air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 207 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission. Noteworthy service completed by the current owner includes replacement of the thermostat oil line, shifter bushing and coupler, distribution rotor and cap, DME module, ECU repair, and rebuilds of two brake calipers along with all new pads and a brake fluid flush in preparation for sale.

This sale will include the original owner’s books, a repair manual, a spare tire, an air pump, service records, a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: Thank you for visiting my auction. This car was originally owned by the former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and then spent time with a pilot in Oregon, from where I bought it 16 years ago. Back then, there was no investor market and you bought a specific car just because you liked it, and for fun (and I never regretted it). So, I don't have a window sticker and no original maintenance book, but I am sure that "Downtown Willie' took good care during the first decade. Now important is, that I took care meticulously under my current ownership together with an excellent Porsche mechanic in my Porsche environment here in Florida. This is why this car is running great! This car is a driver's car and no "trailer queen", even though based on its originality and early model year of the 3.2L "Killer engine", it could complement a G-model collection. I store that car in my climate-controlled workshop, all maintenance is up to date and the Targa roof was rebuilt in April 2023. The car is completely stock and even the original factory-equipped Blaupunkt radio with cassette player is working perfectly. There is nothing like the exhilaration of driving under the open sky and hearing the 911 growling in the back. - Happy bidding!

  • Mike912 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Ech33 The interior leather is also original! Not replaced, but rejuvenated years ago. It shows some wear on the driver's seat and please note the pic, where it's exactly shown.
Concerning the clutch, it has not been replaced (you didn't miss it), but why would I?
The clutch is working perfectly and on a 915 transmission, the clutch deteriorates slowly, because cable-operated and you feel it; while on a G50 hydraulic-operated, it fails immediately.
So don't worry the next 100k (depending on your driving style of course) - the 915 clutch repair is half the price of a G50.

  • Ech33 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Frostie007 How about the interior leather? Ever replaced or dyed? Also couldn’t find record of a clutch replacement (or maybe I missed it?)
    Thx

Good morning enthusiasts and bidders - the countdown starts!
I will be around to answer all your final questions today.
Don't wait with your bid till the last minute; I don't want you to loose the opportunity to own this beauty, because of technical failure strikes.
    Happy bidding!

  • Frostie007 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Ech33 The paint is pretty much original, except the engine lid, which I resprayed recently, since I wanted to fix a big chip, going down to the metal on such an obvious piece. Otherwise, you'll see some imperfections and some small chips on the hood, some call it patina.
No rust and no rust repairs done under my ownership; the car was always garaged and covered with a pajama, the last seven years air-conditioned. The many pics from the chassis should tell, and any rust would have come out the last 16 years, when I owned it.

  • Ech33 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Hello! Is the paint all original? Any rust repairs?

  • Frostie007 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@jsheldon48 I agree, that the Targa makes the difference, because it combines the Porsche fascination with driving under the open sky, even in chilly weather, since you are enclosed with a beautiful wrap-around rear glass window.
Porsche's Targa top has become a trendsetter, widely emulated throughout the sports car industry.
But I don't have to preach to the choir - you know this feeling!
The option list shows this Carrera as one of the most optioned ones, especially with the sports seats, another wrap-around feature of the car.
    Thanks for your comment!

@ericthepilot the Targa Top is foldable and you put it in the front trunk.
Well here in Florida, you 're always topless year round and it's always in the trunk; you just pull it out, when a thunderstorm surprises you, that's at least what I did. When you store it for a longer time, it should always be stored unfolded!
I will look for a picture, and show you, like it looks folded in the trunk.

  • jab7106 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Any fluid leaks? To your knowledge have the valve covers been upgraded to "turbo" covers?

  • ericthepilot (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Sorry, but not familiar with the 911 Targa. Question. When you remove the Targa Top, can you store the roof piece in the front trunk ?

I know this car, I've ridden in this car (I will admit that I didn't know I possibly sat in the same place the Terminator may have once farted), and I can tell you this is a fantastic example of this era of 911. The owner "Frosty" is collector not some flipper and is very active in the local Porsche scene. And trust me, with a name like Frosty, I can tell you everybody in Florida knows him. For those in the market for a 911, I don't think you can beat knowing that this is an excellent example being sold by a long time owner enthusiast seller. And I'm willing to put my real name to my opinion.

Wishing luck to both Frosty and all the bidders out there. This is one that's worth going for.

  • Frostie007 (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Roma Thanks for your interest! Last compression test was done last year, there were no issues, compression was consistent,no leak down test. The car is running great.
No rust, no engine/transmission leaks. The car has been going through thoroughly with my Porsche mechanic in preparation for the sale the last 2 months. It was on the lift for a week and everything due was addressed. All brake pads were replaced and 2 calipers were rebuilt with total brake fluid flush, oil change done, spark plugs replaced. Maintenance is up-to-date.
The car is pretty much original, no molestations, no electronic chips, no upgrades, because it came out of the factory with full options. Please see the option list.

Well, I never paid much attention about that car's VIP history and never had the time to drill into it, but recently,
you brought it up CartBeforeHorse , it was very entertaining to think about, which VIP's may have ridden in that car, and I am sure, Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of them.

  • CartBeforeHorse (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Wow! Vice Presidential careers were perhaps kick started in this Porsche!
