This 1985 Porsche 911 Coupe is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional limited-slip differential sending power to the rear wheels from its air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six. It comes finished in Black over a matching interior with optional power-adjustable Sport Seats. Equipment includes optional front and rear spoilers, a power sunroof, headlamp washers, Euro-spec side marker lights, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, Rennline floorboards, a Continental Bluetooth stereo, 17” Speedline Ruf wheels, a Steve Wong performance chip, and a cat-delete exhaust pipe (original included). This 911 Carrera Coupe is finished in Black and features optional front and rear spoilers, headlamp washers, integrated front fog lights, RoW-spec side market lights, orange RoW-spec taillights, an electric sunroof, and aftermarket staggered-width 17” Speedline Ruf wheels. The car rides on Bridgestone Potenza tires measuring 225/45 in front and 255/40 in the rear. The seller believes the doors and fenders may have been refinished under prior ownership, and a ceramic coating has been applied to the exterior. Some cosmetic imperfections are noted including two small cracks on the windshield. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The black leather interior is appointed with optional power-adjustable Sport Seats, a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo, Rennline floorboards, and a Continental Bluetooth stereo. Other accessories include power windows, a central locking system, air conditioning, cruise control, aftermarket speakers, and black carpet floor mats with red Porsche lettering. The seller notes a crack on the center of the dashboard and a repaired tear on the rear parcel shelf which is concealed when the rear seatbacks are up. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly, although the air conditioning system doesn’t blow very cold air.
Originally rated at 207 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque, the air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Type 915 manual transaxle and an optional limited-slip differential. The seller notes a Steve Wong engine performance chip has been installed along with a cat-delete exhaust pipe, and the original catalytic converter is included in the sale. Service completed within the last 1k miles includes replacing the spark plugs and distributor cap and rotor, a valve adjustment with new valve cover gaskets, an oil change, a new fuel filter, new A/C and alternator belts, rear sway bar bushings, and new front and rear brake pads.

@Breakthru I asked a few mechanics, and my best guess is that the doors are original, with no signs of any accidents or repairs. The repainting on the doors and fenders seems to have been done purely for aesthetic reasons rather than any accident-related issues.
The post states the doors and fenders were repainted before your ownership. Unfortunately the Carfax only goes back to 2005, which leaves quite a gap in time in terms of ownership. Is it possible an accident/damage happened during that time and never made it onto the Carfax?
I’ve owned 12 911’s. This was probably the best. Bought new, raced in PCA Club Racing stock class 14 years, no engine issues and same clutch! My friend’s son has it today…still runs great.

just added pictures of the cat and the cat bypass that is currently installed on the car. These pictures were taken by PO when the cat bypass was fabricated and installed (~2018)

@Breakthru My feeling is that it will pass the California emissions if you install it's catalytic converter that I will include with the sale. I asked ChatGPT and seems to share the same opinion: Yes, a 1985 Porsche 911 can potentially pass California's emissions test, but it will need a catalytic converter that meets California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements and a well-maintained emissions system.
@FFFABRICATION Hi Fred, thanks so much for sharing your feedback here, it means a lot to have your take on the car. I really appreciate your expertise and attention to detail. Thanks again for all the work you've done on it!
Would this pass California smog emissions?
Hi, I'm Fred from F&F Fabrication. I had the pleasure of performing the last maintenance on this vehicle in May 2023 and took it for a test drive a couple of months ago. This is a great vehicle that runs well and is in excellent condition—what more can I say? It handles solidly on the road and is really clean. All maintenance is current, and I can confidently vouch for its quality
@Denim 13km (8 miles) from the YUL airport (Trudeau airport)
You’re near Montreal?
How far from the airport ?
I forgot to mention the shifter improvements: To eliminate any play, I replaced several components:
- Ball cup bushing
- Shift rod bushing
- Throttle cable bushings
- Coupler bushing
Additionally, I installed a custom spring to center the shifter in the 3/4 position, sold by a fellow enthusiast @azul_minerva’s Instagram. This upgrade has removed all play in the improved shifter. https://www.instagram.com/tv/CaWmZsflFkL/?igsh=MWJxcmNmYXcyZDIyMQ==
@Denim Thank you for the kind words!
Will try to address your questions:
Transmission: The transmission shifts smoothly with no issues going into any gears, whether shifting up or down. There’s no crunching or resistance, unlike my previous '74. This said, it is a 915 so I always let it heat up before a drive. According to documentation from the previous owner, the transmission was rebuilt at 82k km, so it's solid and been well-maintained.
Next To-Do Items: If I were keeping it, I’d be looking at:
- Adjusting the stance/ride height to lower it a bit.
- Exploring ways to fix the dashboard crack without having to remove the windshield.
- Adding a fire extinguisher for safety.
- Retrofitting the AC from R12 to R134a to bring it up to modern standards. The current AC works, but it’s still in its original ‘80s state. With Quebec’s mild summers, it's been manageable, but an upgrade would be ideal. This would likely cost around $2,000 due to the need for updated plumbing, given the higher pressure of R134a.
Long-Distance Drive: I’d definitely be comfortable taking it on a drive to the East Coast! While it may not have the same long-distance comfort as a 964 or 993, it’s up for the journey and capable of handling it.
Let me know if you have any further questions!
Understanding that it’s late in the auction, & a driving video may be cumbersome , so, How would you describe the transmission?
Any issues shifting into any gears up or down ?
If you were keeping the car, what would you be addressing next on the car ?
And lastly, would you embark on a drive to the East Coast with it?
Thank you @seller. You’ve been very forthcoming
@armordillo Negative. No other rust on the car
Nice car...
Also curious about any rust... As noted below - the rust on the bumpers. Are there any other rusted areas?
@awful996 The auction results are in USD, but we can convert the amount to CAD using the current exchange rate if that’s more convenient for you.
Hi just wondering do you take CAD as well

@Denim I’ve attached the pictures as requested. Regarding the cracks, they were hard to capture in a photo, so I placed a yellow microfiber towel on the other side to help make them visible.
As for the windshield cracks, fixing them has been on my to-do list, and I’ve scheduled an appointment for this afternoon. The gentleman handling it is an expert with classic 911s and will do his best to minimize the visible impact. He also strongly recommended repairing rather than replacing it to preserve the original Sigla glass.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you
Other than the front bumper corners, are there other rust spots or paint bubbling?
Can you include pics of the lower windshield cowl as well?
@Denim Hi @Denim regarding the photos:
#29 and #56: These show the same spot under different lighting — a rough touch-up on a rock chip on the hood.
#30: This is a small bump near the Porsche crest on the hood, almost like a reverse dent from the hood closing on something pointy.
#35: Scratches on the driver’s side rear wheel arch—courtesy of my kids and their bikes. They’re not deep and could be buffed out, but I’m superstitious that another scratch would just appear!
#55: A slight "dimple" on the driver’s door.
And as for why I’m selling... well, it’s not easy to let go. I’m a lifelong air-cooled fan and always plan to have one in my life. I’ve had the pleasure of owning a ‘74 and now this ‘85, and while I’d love to keep them all, space and practicality mean I can’t collect them all at once. I’m drawn to experiencing other models—the long hood, a 356, 964, and 993 are all on my list. So, selling is about being able to explore another air-cooled classic. There’s definitely a part of me that would love to keep this one, but sometimes moving on feels like the right call (maybe it’s a bit of mid-life adventure creeping in!).
I'll attach additional pictures of the windshield as well as the drivers bolsters seats later on today
hope this helps

Good looking car. Lots of recent work done. Wheels look clean.
Why are you selling?
It’s difficult to tell, Are you able to explain what we’re looking at in the following pics :
Pics 29,30
35, 55, 56
Are you able to show the windshield cracks?
Can you show a better picture of drivers seat & bolsters please?
GLWS
Thanks @racecarrobbie
When I bought the car, I wanted to exchange them for Fuchs… thankfully I listened to my friends and kept them. They ‘make’ the car imo
I can’t paste URL links here but Jalopnik.com had an article about the same wheels. I’m sure you can find the article if you Google the title:

Thank you for checking out my auction! I've owned this car for the past 4 years, and as a longtime air-cooled enthusiast, I can say it’s been a fantastic experience. It's not my first air-cooled Porsche, and it certainly won’t be my last!
What I love most about this car are the sport seats and the RUF wheels—they truly elevate its look and feel. If you have any questions or need more details, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
