Finished in Guards Red over a CanCan Red leather interior, this 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is factory-equipped with the M491 Turbo-Look package adding the wide bodywork, spoilers, brakes, suspension, and wheels of the 930 Turbo. It also features an optional limited-slip differential, heated power-adjustable Sport Seats, an elevated steering wheel hub, an electric sunroof, cruise control, air conditioning, a central locking system, and an upgraded Porsche Classic (PCCM) head unit. Purchased by the current owner in 1992, it was later sold and changed hands between two other Porsche collectors until being reacquired by the seller in 2023. This rare-configuration 911 Carrera is now being offered for auction out of New York with approximately 64k miles showing on the odometer.

Designated by option code M491, the Turbo-look package provides the Carrera with the same bodywork as the 930 including its wider fenders, front chin spoiler, and "Tea Tray" rear decklid spoiler. This example is finished in Guards Red (L027) and features integrated front fog lights, headlamp washers, black stone guard decals, rear bumperettes, a periscope-style third brake light, a Porsche-branded tail panel reflector, and Turbo-spec 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. The seller indicates the hood and driver’s door were previously refinished and the lower front spoiler has a small piece missing at the bottom edge. Some rock chips are noted on the front valence along with a small dent, and two scuffs are present at the driver’s rear quarter panel edge. A small indentation is also depicted on the rear passenger side bumper behind the wheel arch. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with rare CanCan Red Special Leather (70) upholstery including a matching shift boot, carpets, and optional heated power-adjustable Sport Seats. Equipment includes a four-spoke black leather steering wheel, a black leather dashboard and headliner, air conditioning, cruise control, a central locking system, a quartz clock, a sound system, and an upgraded Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) head unit with Bluetooth and navigation. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

An air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 207 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle and an optional limited-slip differential. The M491 package includes the uprated suspension and cross-drilled disc brakes from the 911 Turbo. The seller states a major service was completed in February 2022 and the CARFAX report shows 13 service history entries.

This sale will include an air pump, a spare tire, an extra set of Porsche floor mats, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “The only reason I’m selling my  M491 911 is because I lost my storage space and have been unable to find temperature-controlled storage.”

@CC350 Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I never looked at the uploaded videos. Sorry for the confusion Pcar Market must have uploaded videos from the previous ownership from Utube. I just made them aware and they will be correcting it. I’m going to make a new video today. I agree with “over selling “ unfortunately the collector I purchased it from sent me that video. He also mentions all original paint in the video & like I pointed out in my description the Drivers Door & Hood have been refinished prior to my ownership. I was the second owner of this car back in 1992 & regretting selling it. I kept track of it and bought it back over a year ago now. Unfortunately I have to sell it due to circumstances beyond my control.
    * In the second paragraph the vehicle condition is described by myself and talks about the chips etc.
If you need any more photos or questions please let me know. Thank you

I'm interested but I am confused by the video. States no body damage or stone chips but you can clearly see the peppered valence with a dent on the passenger side under the fog lamp, plus the other damage shown in the gallery. Says original Blaupunkt head unit but it is a Sony. Talks about great seat bolster but you can see the worn through piping. Etc etc. Previous auction shows a different speedo but stated here it never had one. Makes it hard to understand just what is being sold. Some transparency and a factual fresh video and overview would help to bring me, and I suspect other bidders, back. It is a neat car but "overselling" doesn't breed confidence. Respectfully, CC350

@Turbotwo They were there when i purchased the car. I just examined it closely, I do not see any evidence of chips under the strip on the hood or the edge. I believe that material would show voids underneath if there were any.

@Giorgio1967 Are their chips chips under the black strip is a porshe hood chip guard

@Turbotwo That strip is a porshe hood chip guard , same material as the rear 1/4 panel chip protectors. It could be removed if you don’t like the appearance.

@NEUNLFER Your welcome , I had my M491 listed here Serviced on 12/14/2023 @ Porsche of clifton park which at that time I also had them remove the old aftermarket CD changer & amplifier. They installed a new Porsche Classic Comminication Radio which is retro style with today’s technology / bluetooth etc total of $3276 which including labor to remove old components.
At this service They also replaced speed and reference sensors , impulse sensor & temperature sensor. Replaced seat lever that was cracked and door seal that was worn . $6586 total
To confirm ,Yes the car did have the 85 MPH speedometer when I owned it in 1992.
Sorry I forgot to reply in previous response to your questions.

What's is the black strip on the front of the hood near the badge?

  • NEUNLFER (registered bidder) 2 days, 9 hoursago

Thank you for the video uploads.
Can you please confirm the aftermarket CD changer and amplifier shown in the video @ 3:33 was removed, and the current condition of the car is reflective of photo #112.
Can you also confirm the car had an 85 mph speedometer during your first ownership.
    Thanks again.

@NEUNLFER Thank you ! I do not have any knowledge of the TMU you are referring to Please see recent car fax report attached which documents the milage and also shows the most recent service I had done last year at Porsche of Clifton Park. As you know it is a rare find and I was lucky enough to own it Twice. I wish I could keep it, We recently sold our home and I have not been able to obtain temperature controlled storage which it deserves.

    @Giorgio1967, beautiful M491 TL!
I followed the BAT auction for this car last year, which ended RNM.
    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-porsche-911-carrera-coupe-18/
Given you were the owner of the car back in 1992, are you able to clarify the story with the 85MPH speedo and TMU? Thanks
