Initially delivered at Colonial Porsche Audi of Providence, Rhode Island, this 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa comes finished in Grand Prix White over rare Can Can Red Special Leather upholstery. The car was further optioned with body-colored 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels, Sport shock absorbers, front Sport Seats, a raised steering wheel hub, power door locks, and more. Acquired by the current owner approximately 25 years ago, this classic air-cooled Targa is now being offered for auction on behalf of the seller out of Maine with less than 145k miles showing on the odometer.
This Carrera was ordered in Grand Prix White with optional 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels featuring body-colored centers. Equipment also includes a black Targa bar and removable roof panel, a heated wraparound glass rear window, body-colored headlight rings, and a Porsche-lettered rear reflector band. A few very minor imperfections are noted, along with a slight ding in the Targa bar. The seller notes that the front-end damage on the CARFAX report was a result of sheet metal damage that occurred in 2005, and the repair cost was $3,126. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the cabin is appointed with sought-after Can Can Red Special Leather upholstery, including matching carpets, a shift boot, and optional Sport Seats. Additional features include a four-spoke black leather steering wheel, black leather dashboard and headliner, central locking, a quartz clock, sound system, and a replacement head unit. All gauges and electronics are reported to be in proper working order, with the exception of the air conditioning, which does not blow cold, and the cruise control, which is currently inoperative.
Factory-rated at 207 HP and 192 lb-ft of torque, the air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Type 915 manual transaxle. The seller notes that the Sport shock absorbers have been replaced, and the car has been maintained by a local independent Porsche specialist since their acquisition. A collection of service records dating back to 2000 will accompany the sale.
This sale will include a registration, owner’s manuals, a window sticker, service records, a toolkit, a spare tire, and an air pump.
The seller would like you to know: “I am selling this for my friend Dan, who purchased this on November 15, 2000. He is reluctantly parting with it due to knee problems that prevent him from entering or exiting the car with the roof on. This is a very strong running classic air-cooled Porsche. It has never been winter-driven.”

Thank you for your questions. Dan has owned the since 2000 and put 47,096 miles on it in the last 25 years. It has had regular tune ups with valve adjustments, oil and filter changes brake fluid flushes, and trans fluid changes n a regular basis. The transmission was rebuilt at 108.901 miles including a new clutch. The engine has not required any internal repairs and runs perfectly. Minor repairs have included the replacement of the directional/high beam switch, power seat switches, a power window switch, a cylinder head temperature sensor, starter motor, and other minor items. It also has the Turbo Tie Rod update kit installed. I will upload the info for the body work that was performed about 20 years ago.
Nice car, could we learn a bit more about the service history, vis-a-vis valve work, clutch replacement, transmission condition etc?
@seller... Is any more information available regarding the sheet metal damage up front? Photos and/or repair records? Also, has there been any significant engine or transmission rebuild service? Thanks.
Hello and welcome to the auction of this very well equipped vintage air cooled Porsche 911 Carrera. A car that you can drive and enjoy and it won't break the bank when it comes for service. Unlike later 911's, this car is totally analog and it embodies what the 911 was meant to be. I am available to answer any questions you might have and to supply any additional pictures that you may request. Thank you.
