This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 420SEC was produced in lefthand drive European configuration for the Australian market and was imported to the United States where it was titled in Florida in 2002. It wears the rarely seen color of Manganese Brown Metallic with a Light Brown velour interior and features a 4.2L M116 V8 mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission along with an optional self-leveling rear suspension. Benefitting from recent full service and a binder of supporting records, this 420 SEC shows approximately 117k kilometers (72,700 miles) on the odometer and is now being offered at auction by its seller out of Rhode Island.
The Bruno Sacco-designed bodywork is finished in Manganese Brown Metallic (480U) with bronze lower body cladding and chrome trim surrounding the windows, bumpers, rockers, trunk lid, and grille. Details include pillarless windows, heat-absorbing glass, slim European-market bumpers, Euro headlights with wipers, integrated fog lights, and amber turn signal lenses. The seller describes some minor scratches throughout the exterior, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing front-end damage in 2015. This C126 rides on 15” Mercedes-Benz chrome wire wheels mounted with newer Pirelli P4 tires.
The interior features Light Brown velour upholstery with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting, accented with Burl wood veneers. Amenities include air-conditioning, power windows and locks, power-adjustable and heated front seats, a power sunroof, electronically operated rear headrests, front luggage nets, and a Becker Grand Prix cassette stereo. The seller notes a small tear on the driver’s seat backrest and a small defect on the trim below the radio.
The 420SEC is powered by a 4.2L M116 V8 rated at 201 HP and 211 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. Features include the optional self-leveling rear suspension, ABS, and cruise control. Recent maintenance performed at 116,950 kilometers in March of 2022 included the installation of a new muffler, tires, wiper blades, an oil service, and inspection of all fluids.
