Representing the ninth generation of Ford’s iconic Thunderbird, the Turbo Coupe was introduced in 1983 as the high-performance version equipped with a 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This 1985 example is said to have remained part of the original owner’s collection in Ohio for the majority of its life and was acquired by the seller in 2021. Previously listed on PCARMARKET, this Thunderbird is being offered for auction by its seller out of Maine showing just over 48k miles on the odometer.

This Thunderbird is finished in Bright Canyon Red with black accents and lower body cladding. Exterior equipment includes a Turbo-specific front fascia with integrated Hella fog lamps, and power-adjustable mirrors. The seller reports minor dings on the hood and passenger door, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The factory 15” wheels are mounted with newer Dunlop SP tires.

The interior is trimmed in gray fabric with bucket seats, matching door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include electronic climate control, cruise control, power windows and locks, and an AM/FM stereo with a graphic equalizer. The seller reports the window regulators have been replaced but still need some assistance to open and close, and the air conditioning does not blow cold at this time.

The Thunderbird Turbo Coupe is powered by a 2.3L Lima inline four-cylinder engine that generates up to 155 HP, sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and a “Traction-Lok” rear limited-slip differential. The Turbo Coupe was also equipped with a Special Handling Package that provided a rear dual shock absorber for improved performance. The seller reports the exhaust has been replaced and a recent oil change was completed.

This sale will include a clean title, a car cover, and the original owner’s manuals.

These were great cars in their day-fun to drive and if you were a NASCAR fan- you'll never forget how fast Bill Elliot was - it just too bad they're not worth a lot of money- that's what my J.D. Power book is saying- I hope someone buys and take care of this guy
    Good Luck Rob

Nice looking car. Can you post a video of it being driven? Thanks.

Canyon Red over a gray interior. The top-of-the-line model of Ford’s 9th generation Thunderbird, the Turbo Coupe offered impressive performance and was designed to compete against some of the more expensive European models on the market. To exhibit its performance capabilities, Ford enlisted Formula 1 driver Sir Jackie Stewart to demonstrate the Turbo Coupe at Laguna Seca where it lapped two seconds quicker than the BMW 633CSi.

Great car, 1 prior owner who sold to a dealership where I purchased it. Never crashed. 48,000 orig. miles. Always garaged & never driven in winter months.
