Produced in a joint effort between American automotive designer Carroll Shelby and British specialty car manufacturer AC, the Cobra utilizes a lightweight tubular space frame with aluminum bodywork in conjunction with a powerful Ford V8 engine. This 1985 example was hand built by Autokraft at their factory at the Brooklands racetrack in England, using the original wooden dies used to make the original AC Cobra. It was then shipped to Roush Performance in the United States for the installation of 5.0L Ford V8, fitted with GT40 heads and paired with a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. In 2010, the chassis was completely refurbished by Roush, and the seats were reupholstered in 2020. Said to be one of 480 examples produced by Autokraft and remaining under the care of its original owner who purchased the car new in 1985, this 1985 AC Cobra Mk IV is now being offered at auction by the seller located in Michigan with approximately 28k miles on the odometer.
The hand-rolled aluminum bodywork is factory finished in red, and the chassis is constructed from 4” diameter steel tubing using the original AC 427 Cobra jig, then MIG welded for maximum torsionally rigidity, reportedly requiring around 200 man-hours to complete. Equipment includes fiberglass inner fenders, chrome bumperettes at both ends, chrome gravel guards, chrome Talbot-style Classic GT mirrors, and a chrome windshield surround, as well as a tan tonneau cover, fender vents, wind wings, a racing-style fuel filler cap, and dual polished exhaust outlets. The seller notes some minor scratches throughout and some small blemishes on the hood, detailed images are provided in the gallery. The Halibrand 15″ knock-off wheels are mounted with Goodyear tires in the front and Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S tires in the rear that were said to have been mounted around 10 years ago and only traveled 2k miles since.
The cabin is trimmed in tan Connolly leather, which extends from the low-back bucket seats to the dashboard and door panels, with matching deep pile Wilton carpeting. Interior features include a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, Simpson lap belts, a heater, a locking glove box, a wood-rimmed AC-branded steering wheel, an AC-branded wood shift knob, a Kenwood radio, and a central array of instrumentation including an analog clock and gauges for the oil pressure, water temperature, fuel level, and battery voltage.
This AC Cobra is equipped with a 5.0L Ford V8 fitted with GT40 heads, which is said to produce around 450 HP, installed by Roush Performance. The rear wheels are driven by a 5-speed Tremec manual transmission and a Salisbury limited-slip differential. Performance features include an independent adjustable suspension with unequal length wishbones and Koni dampeners, 4-wheel power-assisted disc brakes, and a Ford Motorsport performance ignition system. The seller reports that the chassis was completed refurbished by Roush Performance in 2010, and a tune-up and oil service were performed this year in anticipation of the sale.
This sale will include a clean title and an Autokraft brochure detailing the construction of the AC Cobra.

This is one of 183 examples shipped to the USA of an est 450 built worldwide. These were hand made alloy bodied cars fully manufactured in the UK, many with stock 302 to sell through Ford dealership networks. This is not a kit, its a real AC! Ford and AC colaboration in the late 80's allowed these cars to be supported worldwide.
Cars that were ordered for special motor (non-EPA/DOT), one's with more beans than a stock 302, were often given state VIN as they do today's CSX cars.
This car is in the SAAC AC MKIV Registry, its numbered and has one owner AK1098. Its also recognized by the ACOC, AC Owners Club UK, as a legit AC car.

The AC MKIV was build as an iteration of the series and its not a continuation in the sense. It was a DOT qualified import from AC England and special in its own right.
Remember all Shelby's were AC's however not all AC's were Shelbys.
@1970Porsche911s I am sure that you have a wonderful car. I also have a Mercedes 550 SL.
Sorry, no interest in a trade. I am attempting to get rid of a few cars.
thanks,

The vehicle is titled as a 1985
Hi. Used to have a mkiv and a mkiii; good stuff. Any interest in a trade for a 2019 Mercedes gle63 with 11k miles. Mint, grey/black with $12k film and ceramic coating. Located in ct.
Hello Sir,
1. Never left in the Sun very long. Always garage kept.
2. Holes on top of door are for the canvas top that needs to be assembled. It is difficult to assemble so I never used it. Never drove the car in the rain. I do have a new custom made tonneau cover.
3. 5L with GT 40 heads installed by Roush. New carb a few years ago. All maintenance done by Roush.
4. Seat covers are original. Spent a grand this last year having the webbing repaired. They feel like new.
5. knob above the ignition is the dash lite dimmer.
6. I never installed roll bars because I wanted to have the car as clean as possible. Can be installed if you want them.
Let me know if you have further questions
Ronald
Additional questions. Is the 5 L engine a 302? Doors have round holes on top edge, was this for a top's side windows? No top was listed. Photo 47 what is the switch just above the ignition switch? Was this car in the sun a lot? "Seats were reupholstered in 2020" but the seat back looks aged. Beautiful car, now to see if I can financially fit it in my garage based upon your reserve. One final question, why no roll bars? If I want to take this on the track, after i replace the tires, several sites require a roll bar. Any problem putting a roll bar in the car as the attached brochure does not show any roll bars on the cars.
The title states 1985 AC assembled
The title states 1985 AC assembled
What is the year on the title? Titled as a 1985 or some other year?
