Building on the 924’s front-engine sports car design, the Porsche 944 debuted with a new 2.5-liter inline-four engine as well as improved suspension and brakes. Among the earliest and purest versions of the model, this 1984 Porsche 944 features a 5-speed manual transaxle and comes finished in Alpine White over black interior upholstery. The seller, its second owner, acquired the car in 1988 and has kept it garage-stored since. This 944 is now being offered for auction out of Pennsylvania.
This example is finished in Alpine White and features distinctive pop-up headlights, integrated front fog lights, and a black polyurethane spoiler surrounding the glass rear hatch. It rides on 15” forged Fuchs wheels with body-colored centers and Goodyear Eagle GT tires. The seller highlights the absence of rust, and detailed images are provided in the gallery along with an accident-free CARFAX report.
Inside, the driver is greeted with black upholstery. Amenities include a removable sunroof panel with an electric tilt feature, power windows, air conditioning, a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, and an aftermarket Clarion head unit. The seller notes cracks on the dashboard and some wear on the seats, although all gauges and electronics are confirmed to be in proper working order. A potential odometer rollback is shown on the CARFAX report.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four engine factory-rated at 150 HP and 142 lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. Standard equipment includes four-wheel independent suspension, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, and ventilated disc brakes. The seller notes the transmission was repaired and the clutch wire replaced nearly 20 years ago. A power steering fluid leak and shifter shaft seal leak are reported, with no other outstanding maintenance items reported.
This sale will include a clean title.

@panam747,
Your posted invoices indicate a new clutch in 2018, not 2005. That is the good news.
The more important question about these 944s is when the last timing belt service was done, and there is no record of that from 2005 to present.
If the timing belt is 20+ years old it may be precariously close to breaking which, when it happens, totals the valve train on these interference engines.
Conventional thought is the belts must be replaced at 4-6 years or 30K miles, whichever comes first.
Hello Everyone and thank you for viewing this auction! The current owner car bought the car from the original owner back in 1988 and it has been meticulously cared for and garage kept since, only driven in good weather and kept in the garage during the winters to protect from snow, salt, etc. Thus the car is pretty much rust free. The car has been well maintained and service records going back almost 20 or so years are available. I am assisting the seller, my father's best friend, with this sale. I will be monitoring frequently for any questions or requests. Please allow until the evening (or night) for me to get back to you with a response as I need to contact the owner to get the answer. Being a surgeon, he is in the office most of the day, and I will touch base with him in the evening.
Happy Bidding!
Thank you!
@HoHo as far as maintenance, we have the service records going back a good amount of years, as this car has been well maintained and should not need anything out of the ordinary except for the disclosed issue (s).
@HoHo Thank you for your kind comments! The wheels are painted. The car is rust free as it is garage kept and driven only in good weather and usually hibernates in the winter thus avoiding all the salt. Air conditioning works just fine, as well as the other electronics. The clutch was replaced within the last 20 years, however, the clutch is absolutely fine and drives and runs fine. As far as the power steering leak is concerned, not sure of the particulars, whether it is a hose or something else.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
This is such a fantastic survivor, clearly loved, cared for, and driven over the years. The Alpine White over black looks great, and those Fuchs wheels are always a highlight — are they painted? The rust-free condition is especially impressive for a 944 of this age.
A couple of friendly questions out of curiosity:
Has it really been about 20 years since the clutch was replaced, if so, how does it feel?
Do you know if the power steering leak is from the rack itself or just a hose?
Are there any other maintenance items the next owner should plan for in the near future?
Does the A/C still work, and are all the electronics in good order?
Thanks for sharing such a well-kept example, it’s rare to see a long-term ownership car presented so honestly.
