This 1984 example comes finished in Ruby Red Metallic over grey full leather upholstery and features optional protective side moldings, options group D96, and a 4-speed automatic transaxle. Showing approximately 48k miles on the odometer, this S version is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

This 928S comes finished in Ruby Red Metallic and features distinctive pop-up headlights, black rubber front and rear spoilers, a rear window wiper, and optional body-colored side moldings. A set of 18” Porsche 993 Turbo-Look wheels have been mounted with Michelin tires, and ample tread has been reported. The seller notes minor paint imperfections including some scuffs beneath the front spoiler. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report noting rear-end damage in 1995, and the seller reports there is no evidence of damage on the vehicle.

Inside, the driver is greeted with grey full leather upholstery. Equipment includes reclining front bucket seats with a power-operated driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, cruise control, a climate control system, power windows, power and heated exterior mirrors, an electric rear window defogger, and an electric rear hatch release. The seller mentions slight lifting of the leather on the passenger side defroster vent, the radio only emits static, the passenger seat recline switch is inoperable, and the sunroof is not working.

Powered by a 4.7-liter V featuring L-Jetronic fuel injection, the 928 sends up to 234 HP and 263 lb.-ft. of torque to its rear wheels by way of a 4-speed automatic transaxle. Standard performance equipment includes a Weissach rear axle, front and rear stabilizer bars, and 4-wheel vented disc brakes. Service items carried out in preparation for the sale are said to include the following:

This sale includes a clean title, a full set of original keys, the original owner’s manuals, a window sticker, an option code sticker, a spare tire, and an air pump. Four original floor mats, a radio owner’s manual, and a radio service book are also included.

The seller would like you to know: “Since it has been serviced, we have driven the car approx. 400 miles. It has been completely reliable and a joy to drive. The air conditioning blows ice cold and hard. This is a 928S that you can rely on to enjoy daily.”

Beautiful car. Those wheels/tires look fantastic. Can you give more information of exactly what wheels and tires your have on there. The OEM 84 had 7X16 front and back. Those look like 9X18? I've heard concerns about putting the wider wheels/tires on the 928S. The GTS was able to get 9X17 but also had the rear quarter panel flared to allow the wheel clearance. Any enlightenment would be appreciated because they definitely take the look to a hight level

I own a low mile 1985 928S that has a similar story (Florida snowbird, in storage for a while before I bought it, very original, etc.). More than other Porsches I have (911s, 944, Cayenne), it is especially important to buy a 928 that is essentially in the cosmetic condition that you want it, because parts for these cars (especially trim and cosmetic pieces) are much more rare than other Porsche sports cars. In addition, 928s that were not cared for or stored correctly usually aged badly. They are only young once. This car was very obviously kept very, very well. You can see this in places that other 928 owners notice, such as the outside trim and bumper caps. In the interior, everything fits properly, the leather isn’t pulling, the plastic parts have a uniformity in color. Most of all, though, look at that dash and instrument pod cover! I haven’t seen those without cracks except for in cars that had them replaced. This car did not see a lot of sun.

The originality is amazing. The hardware on the hood hinges looks like new. All of the accessories are there, the cover over the spare tire well is shiny and uncracked. The color is amazing, too - my 83 SC is the same color and the PCA folks swoon over it. It’s rare on the 928.

I agree with the seller in the sunroof - they are useless. It’s a mail slot. They are also usually easy to fix, though. It’s either a cable or a relay. Probably a cable. No biggie.

Best of luck with the sale - great to see such a nice original 928S!

@BarryLe thank you for your observations and comments. To answer your questions:

The Sunroof- As with every car we have an anticipated budget for reconditioning. Sometimes certain things are needed that require us to go over budget, that was the case with this 928S. Replacing an alternator and wheel bearing (both very expensive on a 928S) were unexpected and far more important than repairing a Sunroof. Those were items that were not optional. While I agree that it would be nice for it to work, its not necessary to drive the car reliably and safely. Since the sunroof in a 928 is so small, many owners don't use it, either way it can be fixed at the owners expense prior to taking delivery should the new owner want it to be done.
Tires-Thats PCARS description, the tires have plenty of tread, there is no dry rot, and I can get you the date code if you need that prior to bidding.
DETAIL- We spent $1600 on a paint correction detail. There is no wear on the leather, what you are seeing is shadows in the pictures. The leather is all original, there is no reason to dye it. If it were to be died, it would take away from its originality. You are welcome to personally inspect the car to verify this. The carpets received a deep cleaning, but there is some wear. The car is 40 years old, its excellent, but you can't take away the aging process.

Good Morning everyone and welcome to our 1984 928S. Originally sold new in Michigan, the owner had a residence in his home state as well as Florida. When we were offered it, it had come out of long-term storage where it had sat for many years along with other cars from the owner's collection. It's a highly original example that has been well cared for but needed deferred maintenance. Before it went on the market, it received a thorough inspection and service. In preparation for sale, we had performed:

    • Change oil/Filter
    • Brake fluid service
    • Repair circuit board of instrument cluster
    • Replace timing belt
    • Replace Timing Belt Tensioner
    • Replace Water Pump
    • Replace all drive belts
    • Replace coolant
    • Replace AC Expansion valve
    • Recharge Air Conditioning (Already converted to 134A)
    • Replace Hood Pad
    • Replace Alternator
    • Replace Main Battery cable
    • Replace Right Rear Wheel Bearing
    • Adjust Transmission detent cable
    • Replace wiper blades
    • Replace drivers electric mirror switch
    • Replace Temperature Sensor
    • Replace Fuel pump
    • Inspect inoperable sunroof

Over $8,000 was spent to get this 928S ready for its new owner including a paint correction detail. It is now fully up to date and ready to be driven anywhere with confidence. We are happy to show this 928S to any potential bidders and we work by appoinment. If you have any questions that require an immediate answer or would like to arrange to see it, click on " Contact Seller" and I will respond ASAP. Good Luck to all of the bidders.

Why did the seller not fix the sunroof? How ridiculous is it to fix everything else but ignore the sunroof. What does “ample tread reported”? What are the date codes on the tires. From the photography, the leather and the carpets look soiled or worn in areas. Why weren’t these areas cleaned or dyed as required?
