With its detachable roof panel and signature roll-over hoop, the Targa remains one of the most iconic Porsche 911 models of all time. This 1984 example, marking the inaugural year for the Carrera 3.2, is finished in Guards Red over black upholstery with custom houndstooth accents. Other upgrades include front and rear spoilers, Turbo lower valve covers, Rennline LED headlights, and additional interior updates. Acquired by the seller on PCARMARKET, this example is now being offered for auction out of Ohio with under 64k miles showing on the odometer.
This 911 is finished in Guards Red with a removable black roof panel, Targa band, and wraparound glass rear window. It features genuine front and rear spoilers, likely dealer-installed when new, as well as Rennline LED headlights and staggered-width Maxlite Fuchs-style 16” wheels with polished lips. Under previous ownership, the driver's side was professionally refinished and blended due to minor cosmetic damage from a deer collision. The seller notes a professional paint correction and ceramic coating were applied upon their acquisition approximately 3 years ago and notes minor signs of road wear on the hood and front bumper.
The black interior has been fitted with a pair of heated GTS Classic seats, a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, a classic-style Blaupunkt radio, and upgraded front speakers. Coco floor mats have also been installed, and the air conditioning system was converted to use R134 refrigerant. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order.
This first-year Carrera equips an air-cooled 3.2L flat-six engine rated at 207 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque stock. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transmission. Upgraded Turbo lower valve covers have been installed, and a recent compression and leak-down test shows consistent results: Compression (cylinders 1-6): 160, 159, 160, 160, 157, 160; Leak-down (cylinders 1-6): 4%, 6%, 6%, 6%, 4%, 6%.
This sale will include a clean title, a tool kit, a spare tire, and a car cover.
The seller would like you to know: “I acquired this stunning Guards Red 1980s 911 Targa from a passionate 911 collector on PCARMARKET in April 2021. As an 80s kid, owning a Porsche like this was always a dream, and this beauty, complete with the iconic whale tail, is in remarkable condition for a 40-year-old classic. The drive is nothing short of exhilarating. I drove it 370 miles home after purchase, and it has been my perfect weekend getaway car ever since. Now, with new home construction underway, I'm reluctantly parting with it. Don't miss out on owning a piece of automotive history that's as exciting to drive as it is to look at!”

@tff No wear on seats - that is just a bit of dirt. They were put in at 60k miles and look absolutely brand new.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@tff Color match is excellent, if the prior auction had not disclosed the work I would have had no idea it was done. I will upload paint thickness measurements prior owner did, I've only had the paint professionally corrected (swirl marks removed) so they should still apply here.
Slide 46... does that show some set wear on the side/front portion of the cushion?
And I know it's late in the auction, but do you have or know the paint thickness measurements?
Seems like there was some paintwork done due to the deer collision. How is the color match, is it all single stage...? Thanks.
Hi all - I'm here if there are any last-minute questions. Good luck!

@PorschePhil Images #98-#103 have the details from the body shop that did the work. The damage occurred in 2016 two owners ago so I don't have details on exactly what happened. Looking at the body shop invoice, most of the parts were for a new driver's mirror, the invoice lists the point of impact as 'left quarter post'. Given the relatively low cost to repair, I suspect the damage was minimal and cosmetic. The car drives incredibly - and I can see no evidence of this damage. If you'd like any additional pictures I'll add them.
Really nice car what was the extent of the damage with the deer collision? I’m driving a car right now that had a collision with a deer and it’s never been right even though everything was fixed.
Bid in the amount of $41,000
@pooh356 I do not - the prior owner sold those before my purchase.
Do you have the original seats and wheel ?
@ndnbill I should have mentioned - Ohio doesn't have an emissions inspection requirement so it has not been subjected to such inspections during my ownership. Still, the Carfax does show the car passing several tests.
@ndnbill I have no reason to believe any of that has been removed. The Carfax shows it passed emissions testing in 2014 and I have documentation of ownership back to 2012 (the actual purchase paperwork) and most service records. None are showing the equipment was removed. Photos #70 & #98 show the cat is still there and the O2 sensor was replaced at 60,200 miles.
Does the car retain all its emission control equipment and has the car passed any state's smog inspection?
@XHILLR8 if you’d like to see the car before the auction closes let me know! Same is true for any interested bidder.
Beautiful car... I'll be watching this one... I am right down the street from you in Powell.
@Gotham212Ghost It is a 915 Transmission - check out pic #71 for detail on that!
Beautiful looking car, is it a G50 tranny car ???

@Sdickey CoverKing cover is included. There are no leaks - even after a month of sitting, there are no drops below it.
The prior owner converted it to R134 in 2021 and I charged the AC in 2022 but never used it. As you may know, these AC systems leak when not used and I never recharged it after 2022. The direct answer to your question is AC does not blow cold today but did last time it was charged in 2022.
Great looking Targa. I can see why its hard to part ways with it. A few minor questions - AC running cold? CoverKing cover included? Any minor leaks to speak of?
Thanks for your interest in my classic Porsche! I purchased this here on PCARMARKET from a 911 enthusiast. The car looks and drives fantastic and gets much attention on the road. I'm sadly parting with it due to the need to fund a new home build. I'll be here to answer any questions you may have.
