Up for auction is this 1984 Mercedes-Benz W123 300TD Turbo finished in Light Ivory over a Palomino MB-Tex interior. Well known for its robust design and exceptional build quality, the W123 series is sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike. Equipped with Mercedes' renowned OM617 turbo-diesel engine, this 1984 S123 estate version is said to have been under the care of the same family up until May of 2021 and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.
The Light Ivory finish on this 300TD is accented by chrome brightwork on the bumpers, front grille, mirror caps, window surrounds, and side moldings. The seller notes that several body panels may have been refinished at some point, additional images are provided in the gallery along with an accident-free CARFAX report. Equipment includes U.S.-market impact bumpers, sealed-beam headlamps, fog lamps, a roof rack, a rear wiper, a sunroof, and 14″ Bundt alloy wheels dressed in a set of Hankook Kinergy ST tires dated from 2020.
Inside, you will find a nicely presented cabin trimmed in Palomino MB-Tex upholstery with Zebrano wood veneer inlays on the dashboard and center console. Amenities include automatic climate control, power windows, cruise control, and an upgraded Pioneer radio. The CARFAX report shows a mileage inconsistency in March 2017, and the true mileage of the car is unconfirmed.
Power comes from an OM617 inline five-cylinder turbodiesel engine which produced up to 123 HP and 184 lb.-ft of torque when new. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed automatic transmission, and stopping power comes from disc brakes at all four corners. The seller notes that some corrosion is present on the undercarriage, and CARFAX shows a fuel line to have been replaced along with an oil and filter change in March of 2021. An invoice is also provided for a recent oil service and valve cover gasket replacement.
This sale will include a clean title. With its highly desirable estate configuration and turbodiesel engine, this classic W123 300TD awaits its next caretaker.

Welcome all to the auction of what is certainly a rare find…A sub 100k mile 1984 Mercedes 300TD Wagon! This has always been one of my favorite cars, and it was not until early this summer that I came across this one and had to own it. Its not often that I have the opportunity to sell a vehicle which was part of my own collection, so I very much look forward to this auction! I enjoyed it with my kids over the summer/fall, and it’s now time that this TD wagon find a new long term home!
Growing up this was thee car to own, and well today I guess not much has changed =)
The 300TD had an MSRP of over $35,000…that equates to an MSRP north of $90,000 today! Light ivory paint looks awesome on this car. It has had some paintwork over the years, but done well.
Carfax shows a Pep Boys record with 260k miles which was a clerical error.
This vehicle was owned by an attorney who worked in house at Mercedes Benz. The car was kept at his house in CA, followed by FL, and then NJ.
After his passing, his grandson who lived in NJ inherited the vehicles in his grandfathers collection. I was fortunate enough to purchase two of his vehicles…a 300SE and this 300td.
The car was in California in its early years and then moved to Florida, followed by Central NJ.
When I purchased it the car had just been gone through by them. After putting some miles on, the radiator started to leak, as did a hydraulic line, both of which were replaced/repaired. I will post the receipts for all work that I had done during my ownership as well. I have also addressed a vacuum leak.
The motor starts and runs incredibly. No leaks, no smoking. Starts even on cold mornings without issue.
The interior is in well above average condition for the year. I have the factory head unit in addition to the one that is in it now. There area few trim pieces around the passenger side front door that have small tears. I replaced the ignition two months ago due to the car not turning off after turning the key off, something that I am told is common on these.
The undercarriage is incredibly clean. To be completely honest the photos shown are exactly as I received the car, and were taken after it was driven a number of times. A dry ice treatment or professional undercarriage cleaning will really make this one shine! The undercarriage also reflects the mileage on the odometer.
