Now up for auction is this European-market 1984 Mercedes-Benz W123 300TD Wagon finished in Astral Silver.  Said to have been imported during the 1980s by a German family that relocated to Chicago, this European-market 300TD has been completely federalized and kept in good running order throughout the years.  With approximately $2,400 worth of recent service in including a new radiator, belts, and brakes, this classic Mercedes-Benz Wagon is now being offered by its seller in Illinois accompanied by original books and tools.

The Astral Silver finish is reported to be in good overall condition (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The rear quarter panels and tailgate have been recently refinished along with the removal of rust from some areas including the passenger floorboards.  Some wear remains on the rear wheel arches, although the body is said to be in otherwise solid condition.  Visual details include chrome exterior brightwork and factory 14” Bundt alloy wheels which have been dressed in new Toyo tires within the last 1k miles.

Inside, the Black MB-Tex (leatherette) interior is shown to be very well preserved, although the front seats have been replaced with dark drown units.  Features include wood veneers, power-operated front windows, air conditioning, and a manually operated sunroof which has been sealed to prevent leaks.  An aftermarket Bluetooth/USB radio is currently installed; however, the original radio is also included in the sale.  The speedometer was previously replaced, therefore a mileage discrepancy is noted on Carfax.

This S123 is equipped with a type-OM617 turbodiesel 3.0 L inline 5-cylinder engine.  Approximately 123 HP and 184 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transaxle.  An upgraded Nissan-sourced radiator has been installed and a major recent service was carried out at a cost of approximately $2,400 which included fluid and filter changes, new engine belts, front cam shaft seal replacement, brakes, suspension conversion and a driveshaft flex disc.  Some small oil leaks have been noted and this Mercedes is said to be in strong running order.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, the original toolkit, a recent service/inspection invoice, the original radio, a Mercedes-Benz maintenance book, a spare tire, jack and roadside assistance kit.

@Lyonsfin As far as the sunroof, i bought the car this way and so did the previous owner.

No signs of leakage or water marks on the headliner.
Probably sealed for a reason, a long long time ago

@Lyonsfin SlS not in the car, previous owner spent $2500 on a change over to normal coil springs

No power locks, not sure euro version was optioned with power locks.

    AC blows cool, not cold

Hi. Power locks work? Is the SLS still there and working? AC cold? Do you know if sunroof actually leaked prior to being sealed?

There was supposed to be 3 videos added to the listing by Pcarmarket that i provided, that show the walk around, cold start and blow by test

I can perhaps email/text those videos if anyone wants to see

@Lundclan Based on my research (trying to get invoices from a mechanic shop that knows the car), the actual miles are about 156k

The previous owner bought the car with 145k miles and a few years ago put a new instrumental cluster in, which currently shows 11k

Based on the compression test and talking to service shops, i belive the mileage to be around 156k. Runs very strong

@BshwchAL Yes, im sure it will make it without issues

I drove from virginia to Chicago in October

    850 miles, and ran perfectly

  • Lundclan (registered bidder) 4 yearsago
