Replacing the front-engine Daytona as Ferrari’s flagship 12-cylinder sports car in 1973, the Berlinetta Boxer (BB) showcases Pininfarina-designed bodywork based around a mid-mounted flat-12 engine. The final evolution of the Berlinetta Boxer culminated in the 512 BBi model which was produced from 1981 until 1984 featuring a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system and Magneti Marelli electronic ignition. This final-year example is one of only 1,007 Ferrari 512 BBi’s produced in total and comes finished in Rosso Corsa over a Crema leather interior. It was purchased by the seller, its third owner, in 2021 and subsequently underwent a major engine-out service including new timing belts, spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, and more. This 512 BBi is now being offered for auction out of New York with approximately 7k miles showing on the odometer.
Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina, the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer debuted as a prototype at the 1971 Turin Motor Show. The wind tunnel-shaped bodywork is characterized by a low wedge-shaped nose with pop-up headlamps, a steeply raked windscreen, a vented clamshell engine cover, and flying buttress rear pillars connected by a black spoiler mounted behind the passenger compartment. Compared to the original 365 GT4 BB model, the 512 can be identified by its integrated front chin spoiler, twin circular taillights, slatted tail panel, quad exhaust outlets, and NACA ducts behind each door which provide cooling to the rear brakes and exhaust system. This example is finished in Rosso Corsa and rides on factory 415mm center-locking 5-spoke wheels. The seller indicates new period-correct Michelin TRX metric tires were installed within the last 600 miles and an aftermarket exhaust is equipped. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, this 512 BBi presents Daytona-style bucket seats in Crema leather with a matching center console, door panels, and rear parcel shelf. The cabin is lined with tan carpets protected by custom red and white coco floor mats. A black three-spoke MOMO steering wheel is mounted ahead of a matching leather dashboard which houses analog Veglia Borletti instrument dials, air conditioning vents, and an original cassette stereo. Other accessories include an original Pioneer equalizer, power windows, a gated shifter, a quartz clock, and upgraded Pioneer door speakers. The seller adds that the door sills remain preserved by the original delivery plastics and the seats have been protected with covers.
This 512 BBi is equipped with a 4.9-liter F110A flat-12 engine featuring Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel injection and Magneti Marelli Dinoplex electronic ignition. Up to 340 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The chassis includes ventilated four-wheel disc brakes and a fully independent suspension with unequal-length double wishbones and front coilovers, double rear coilovers, and anti-roll bars front and rear. Maintenance records are available dating back over 20 years and a major engine-out service was performed by Auto Elite Corp. in February 2021 including new timing belts and tensioners, spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, seals, O-rings, air and fuel filters, brake and clutch fluid, an A/C recharge, a coolant flush, and fresh oil.
This sale will include a car cover, the original tires, two seat covers, an original toolkit, owner’s manuals, service records, and a clean title.

If this sells for $250K I;m going to CRY for days!
It’s a beautiful, well taken care of car. If a few had not recently sold at very different prices, would have been easier for me to keep going up with my bids. I hope @garage70 gets to enjoy it!
It’s like the Ferrari pit crew: “We are checking…”
It says processing they’re probably pushing the owner to accept the final bid because it didn’t hit the reserve
Did it clear the reserve?
@Nbkwx55 May he RIP

What a beautiful example of this model. I had a ride in a 1977 512bb with dellorto carbs. I have never forgotten that ride, the raw visceral pulse throughout the car. This was after tracking it down on my GPZ 1100 motorcycle, so I was on the fastest production bike available at the time. Whom ever gets this car will have a legendary Ferrari.

@joegrease It was sent to Auto elite by my friend Elliot Cuker, from Cooper Classics just prior to me buying the car
@Gigiale123 thanks for posting the Auto Elite paperwork. I hear they are an amazing shop. Was this work done by you or the previous owner?
@Gigiale123 Much appreciated. And sure value your engagement.
Bid in the amount of $130,000
@Cytoboy That is a typo error it is supposed to say engine oil, belts and plugs. This is the original engine in the vehicle.
@Gigiale123 Thank you - sounds great!
@Gigiale123: I just observed that the Salt Lake City April 2008 CarFax entry states “Engine Replaced”. Perhaps there is a missing word such as ‘oil’. Please confirm engine is original. Perhaps stampings confirm this is to be a documentation error. Thank you!
@Nbkwx55 Hi please see second video uploaded.
It will show a cold start, as cold as it could be do to being indoors, then a hot start after getting to temperature. I hope this is satisfying
@joegrease Hi, I uploaded photos 218 and 219 showing the invoice and work order performed by Auto Elite Corp
Bid in the amount of $125,000
@Nbkwx55 Hi Sorry if I don't get the video up in time. I will inform PCAR who is holding the car to post it first thing if they can. Since I've owned the car I haven't experienced any issues with these sort of gremlins.
Thank you
@Gigiale123 Thanks - the bidding ends tomorrow, so could you provide a written summary of the ignition performance in case the video won’t be ready before bidding ends? Thank you
@Gigiale123 Thank you sir!
@Nbkwx55 Yes, I have 3 sets of original keys.
I will also post a cold start and hot start video this week.
@Cytoboy My mechanic has informed me the car has Cats and is California compliant.
Hi joegrease, the paint is original and I will post the invoice and paperwork from Auto Elite on Monday when I return from traveling. As for the Carfax on date 2/27/10 the 3800 miles is a clerical error. Cleary you see the history is in sequence up to that date and then after. Thanks
Hi - I’ve seen lots of commentary about the original ignition system on BBi’s being “quirky” and quite a few of these have had aftermarket systems installed to improve performance and address gremlins. Could you post a cold start, and a “hot start” / bring it up to temperature, then stop and then restart the engine to demonstrate how well the stock Dinoplex system and wires are holding up?
On a semi related topic - do you have all 3 original keys? Thank you!
Wow, amazing car @Gigiale123! A few questions: Is the paint original? Do you have paperwork from the recent Auto Elite Corp work? Any further details on the mileage discrepancy on carfax? I assume the latter is just a clerical error? Thanks!
Hi Cytoboy, I have a call into my mechanic regarding the DOT requirements for Cali.
He’s checking his records to see if it has the Catylists.
Fantastic!
Dear Gigiale123:
I see that we are okay with US DOT, but is the car catalyst-equipped, so that my California authorities would allow me to register it? Thanks for your assistance.
Hi Epicmc,
Thank you….no restoration done to the vehicle it is all original.
Bid in the amount of $120,000
Has any restoration work been done or is the car all original. Very nice!
Porsche guy! but these are incredibly nice cars and extremely fun to drive! what a nice example, good luck with the sale This vintage masterpiece is not just a car; it's an investment in a legacy of automotive excellence.

I remember not long ago when F50 were $400k and 512M were just over $100k. The Boxer is one of the most exotic Ferraris ever made and one of the most significant. It's the only Ferrari with a true clamshell design (like Pagani and Miura). It's Ferrari's first production mid-engine 12 cylinder. It was designed by Fioravanti who designed the Daytona, F40, TR and 288GTO. It has a bullet proof engine and with an proper exhaust sounds like an historic Ferrari race car as its engine mimics the F1 dominating 312 F1 car driven by Niki Lauda to multiple championships. What more could one ask for? True collector car BARGAIN.....for now. I already have one and considering adding more to the collection.
Beautiful. I especially like the Crema interior. So many of them are tan.
What a beauty.
Wow! Nice. Those door speakers look like Pioneer TS168 6.5" tri-axial. Ohhhh...back to the good old days.
