Drawing upon the chassis designs of the Dino and 250 LM race car, the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer was unveiled at the 1971 Turin Motor Show featuring a mid-mounted flat-12 engine for the first time in a Ferrari road car. Only 1,007 examples of the fuel-injected version were produced between 1981-1984 and were known as the 512 BBi, with the "I" indicating fuel injection. This 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi is one of just 141 examples produced during the final model year and comes finished in the traditional combination of Rosso Corsa over tan Connolly leather. It was sold new in Modena, Italy, to renowned Hollywood-based Ferrari mechanic Pietro Iurilli known as the "mechanic of the stars" for maintaining cars owned by the likes of Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and Clint Eastwood. Accompanying records show Pietro took delivery of this 512 BBi, chassis 50749, on 5/14/1984 and proceeded to enjoy the car around Italy before shipping it to his home in Granada Hills, California. Having changed hands between only three owners, this 512 BBi has remained part of a private collection since 2010 and is now being offered for auction by its consigning dealer out of Michigan.
Styled by Pininfarina under the direction of Leonardo Fioravanti, the bodywork of the Berlinetta was influenced by the Ferrari P6 concept car, featuring a sleek wedge-shaped profile and a wide rear section flanked by distinctive flying buttresses. The body is adorned with pop-up headlamps, aluminum hood louvers, a high-mount rear spoiler, rectangular side markers, engine lid grilles, and NACA ducts behind the doors. This example is finished in Rosso Corsa with matching lower body cladding and factory 15” Cromodora alloy wheels with center-lock hubs and Michelin TRX metric tires. The seller notes that the tires are 10 years old, although they remain in good condition and hold air pressure as the car has been carefully looked after in a climate-controlled environment. The exterior is said to have been completely refinished under prior ownership and the seller notes some small imperfections as depicted in the photo gallery.
The cabin is trimmed in tan Connolly leather with matching carpets and a contrasting brown leather dashboard. Equipment includes a gated manual shifter, a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, Veglia Borletti instrumentation, power windows, air conditioning, and a Pioneer audio system with a cassette player and graphic equalizer. The cabin is described to have been kept mostly original apart from the seat covers and the seller notes the radio head unit is currently inoperable. The car's odometer reading reflects distance in kilometers as the 512 BBi was originally built for the European market.
The Tipo F110 A flat 12-cylinder engine is equipped with Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel injection and Dinoplex electronic ignition, producing an output of up to 335 HP and 333 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. The tubular chassis is paired with fully independent suspension including unequal-length double wishbones, coilovers, and anti-roll bars. Stopping power comes from ventilated disc brakes. The seller states the last major service was completed 20 years ago at Ferrari Orange County before the car eventually joined the current owner's collection in 2010 and has been driven approximately 750 miles since.
This sale will include a clean title, factory literature, and import documentation.

Welcome to the closing day on this iconic ‘84 512 BBi. I hope all interested bidders have been satisfied with my presentation and communication.

@meandmyferrari Boxer sales at $500K are very rare, at least for the 512BBi model. The 365 Boxers typically bring more than the 512 models do; the 365s are rarer, some say prettier, and are said to be 'purer', whatever that means. But 512s have lately been stuck in the doldrums a bit.
To me, this is one of the best Ferraris ever built- beautiful, fast, powerrful, and the beginning of their mid-engine top of the line road cars. I don't get it, either, why they have traded so low in comparison to other Ferraris. For a fact, if I could afford it, I'd buy one.
Years ago, I remember seeing a 365 Boxer sell for $55,000- when I had just bought a Mondial t cabriolet for $40K. Well, the Mondial t cabriolet is still worth $40K. LOL
These cars sold for over $500,000.00 not too long ago. I can't believe prices have been depressed on these for so long. It is a matter of time before they pop. rear clam shell with flat 12 and gated shifter.. Bellisimo!

@vzim Odometer clocks in kilometers and the speedometer has MPH and KPH readings. Last engine out service is said to have been done by Ferrari of Orange County in 2010, roughly 750 kilometers of use has been added since then.
Is the odometer and speedometer in Kilometers or do they read in miles or MPH?
Not clear from the video and description. Has the motor been rebuilt at all? Beautiful car!

@atonokaboni Yes it still has the BAR cert, see photo 132. This 512 was registered in California from 1984-2010.
@vintiquemotors Yes I am aware of all of that. My question was when the car was certified DOT/EPA, was there a California Bar Sticker done as well as it resided in California after it was imported and all the work was completed? Trying to find out if this car is a 49 state Vehicle or if the Bar Sticker allows it to be sold in California. Thank you in advance.
@atonokaboni It was not originally delivered to California. It was originally delivered to Italy with the first owner taking delivery at the Ferrari factory on 5/14/1984 and then he imported it to California where it made port in Los Angeles abord the Damosto on 7/26/1984 and then it proceeded to pass federalization in California on 10/27/1984.
512's were not sold new in the U.S. All 512's that were imported to the U.S. would have to pass federalization before they were allowed to be driven on U.S. roads.
Does the Car have a California BAR Sticker since it originally was delivered to California? Thanks.

I know there’s going to be some questions about the last major service and I’m getting in front of that early.
My client purchased it in a fully serviced state from Silicon Valley Auto Group (formerly Ferrari of Los Gatos) on 3/4/2010 with roughly 75,300 kilometers. It has been a part of his extensive collection based here in Michigan since which is mostly comprised of Ferraris and Alfa Romeos. In his 12 years of ownership, he’s added approximately 750 kilometers and he has not had a major engine out service conducted under his ownership. He told me he had the clutch done about 5 years ago but unfortunately the receipt for the service is not in the file he has for this example. Based on driving it the clutch feels strong, as it should.
Additionally, the tires are correct Michelin TRX metric tires with 2002 date codes. Being 20 years old they are in great shape with no cracking or dryness and hold set air pressure as the car has been housed in his private climate-controlled warehouse with the rest of his collection.
I have personally inspected and driven it and I’m no stranger to enzo era Ferraris. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a 512 BBi that you won’t be afraid to drive, and I trust the extensive POV video demonstrates this.
It is believed this 512 BBi is a 4-owner example. Per a purchase order document accompanying the car, it is believed Pietro owned the car until a couple, Joseph and Janet Maddocks of Studio City, California, purchased it from VIP Consignments in West Hollywood, California with a reported 14,085 miles at an undetermined date in the mid-1990s, believed to be 1995.
With no other physical records, per our research Joseph Maddocks enjoyed the car in California as well as participating in sanctioned FCA events at Willow Springs in 1995 and 2005 as well as annually participating in the Virigina City Hill Climb from 1995 to 1998. It was sold by a dealer on behalf of Joseph Maddocks in 2005 to an undocumented owner and then acquired by Silicon Valley Auto Group (formerly Ferrari of Los Gatos) in 2010.
The believed fourth owner, my client, from Northville, Michigan purchased it on 3/4/2010 from Silicon Valley Auto Group in which today it presents with 75,799 kilometers on the odometer.
This 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi is finished in its original colors of Rosso Corsa over Tan Connolly leather and is 1 of 1,007 fuel injected Berlinetta Boxers built during its 4-year production run from 1981 to 1984. It was sold new in Modena, Italy to well-known Hollywood, CA based Ferrari mechanic: Pietro Iurilli.
Pietro was known as the “mechanic of the stars” for maintaining the Ferrari’s owned by Hollywood’s elite including Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and Clint Eastwood. He also earned the acclaim of Enzo Ferrari himself and had a personal friendship with the Il Commendatore.
Per the records accompanying the car, Pietro took delivery of this 512 BBi, chassis 50749, at the Ferrari factory in Modena, Italy on 5/14/1984. Pietro proceeded to enjoy the car around Italy before shipping it to his home in Granada Hills, California.
Pietro was assisted in importing it by Piero Salvaggio who also owned the famous Hollywood Italian restaurant, Valentinos, that he founded in 1972. It was loaded onto the Damosto and made port in Los Angeles, California on 7/26/1984 and proceeded to passed federal EPA emissions testing on 10/27/1984 with a reported 1,677 miles.

Yeah, I know. I worked for Bridgestone-Firestone for 30 years.
@jbauto swap out the TRX for 16" wheels with modern Michelin Pilot Cup 2 or 4S tires and the Boxer is transformed as it will steer better/easier, brake better, handle better and ride better....a lot better! Tire technology has changed a lot in the last 40 years!
The 512 BBi is hands down, by far, the very best value one can find in the Ferrari collector world as it literally ticks all the right boxes: Flat 12 derived from World Championship F1 engine, Ferrari's only production car with a clamshell design (like the Miura), a stunningly beautiful body designed by the same artist who did the F40, Daytona, 288GTO and Testarossa and a car that, in its day, was the greatest sports car in the world and was so for years.

Bellisimo! Bella Macchina. You can still read the writing on the Airboxes. That tells me a lot. TRX is just like Sony Beta unfortunately. Nice car. GL
