Introduced as the performance flagship of the Buick lineup, the Grand National helped redefine American muscle with turbocharged V6 power and distinctive blacked-out styling. Finished in Black, this 1984 example is one of approximately 2,000 produced for the model year and is a rare factory hardtop model equipped with the one-year-only Lear Siegler leather and suede interior, and a turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive along with an optional limited-slip differential. Having benefitted from over $33k in cosmetic and mechanical restoration since the seller’s acquisition approximately three years ago, it received a full interior and exterior refinish, new tires, suspension upgrades, and extensive servicing to the cooling, ignition, and air conditioning systems. This Grand National is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This example is finished in Black and benefits from a cosmetic restoration completed in 2022 following the seller’s acquisition, during which all major paint flaws were corrected and a full paint correction with ceramic coating was performed. Exterior details include a sculpted hood, integrated rear spoiler, Grand National badging, and dual exhaust outlets. It rides on 15″ wheels with black centers and polished lips, wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires installed in 2022 with approximately 2k miles of use. The seller notes a few minor paint chips from light weekend driving. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin features factory Lear Siegler front bucket seats and a matching rear bench upholstered in two-tone black leather and light suede, with Turbo 6 embroidery on the headrests. Following the seller’s acquisition, the interior was refinished to show-level standards as part of a reported $22k cosmetic and cabin restoration. Interior equipment includes a six-way power driver’s seat, power windows, electric door locks, a tilt steering column, and a rear window defogger. The OEM Delco cassette stereo has been modified with a Bluetooth/streaming module, and three auxiliary gauges were added to monitor turbo boost, oil pressure, and temperature.

Power comes from a turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine with sequential fuel injection, generating a factory-rated 200 HP and 300 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and an optional limited-slip differential. The suspension consists of an independent front setup with coil springs and a four-link live rear axle with coil springs, while braking is facilitated by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The seller reports approximately $11.5k in mechanical servicing since 2022, including the repair of oil and coolant leaks, replacement of all belts, hoses, gaskets, fluids, filters, and spark plugs, as well as the installation of a new water pump, radiator, alternator, and all-new air conditioning components. Additional upgrades include a K&N intake, upgraded performance chip, Bilstein shocks, and a full suspension alignment.

This sale will include a spare tire, a sales brochure, an OEM ECU and air intake, a GM build sheet, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: "I believe the 1984 model is the true sleeper—second rarest after the GNX, with only about 2,000 produced compared to over 30,000 in 1987. The Lear Siegler leather interior is unique to 1984, and the wheels are exclusive to the ’84–’85 models. With a chip and intake, it performs on par with the intercooled ’86–’87 cars. Much like early non-intercooled 930 Porsches, the rarity of the earlier models is often overlooked—but the market will catch on. This particular example needs nothing. It’s California-smog compliant with a clean CA title. Comes with the factory-issued build sheet from GM Heritage and period-correct advertising materials."
