Improving upon the original 924 front-engine sports car design, the Porsche 944 was introduced in Europe for the 1982 model year featuring improved suspension, brakes, and a new inline four-cylinder engine. This 1983 example is one of the earliest to have been sold in the United States and comes finished in Guards Red over a Black and Grey/Beige Berber cloth interior. It had been driven very sparingly by its prior owner and was treated to extensive recent service under the seller’s care including a new clutch, ball joints, battery, motor mounts, and more. Having logged just over 32k miles in the nearly four decades since it left the factory, this 944 is now being offered for auction.
This 944 comes finished in traditional Guards Red paint and features distinctive pop-up headlights, integrated front fog lights, and a black polyurethane spoiler surrounding the glass rear hatch. Refurbishment completed in the last year by the current owner includes the replacement of the rear hatch struts, fog lights, and radio antenna. The factory 15” Fuchs alloy wheels come dressed in BF Goodrich tires. The seller notes that the exterior remains in very good condition and that the car placed 2nd in a recent local car show. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is upholstered in black vinyl with grey/beige Berber fabric seating surfaces. Factory equipment includes an optional air-conditioning system, power windows, a sunroof, and an analog clock. An aftermarket Kenwood head unit has been installed and paired with a trunk-mounted Kicker subwoofer. The footwells are lined with red carpet mats and a protective cover has been placed over the steering wheel. Recent maintenance includes the replacement of the rearview mirror, driver’s side window lock, and window regulator.
A naturally aspirated 2.5L inline-four engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle delivering up to 150 HP and 142 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Standard features include four-wheel independent suspension, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, and power-assisted ventilated disc brakes. Service completed in the last year includes replacement of the clutch, master cylinder, brakes, front ball joints, engine mount, battery, tie rods, spark plugs, auxiliary fan switch, and an oil change.
This sale will include a clean title.

I'm messing around looking at pics and didn't get back to the bid section quick enough. Not as familiar with this site as I am with BaT. If it sells at this amount, you got a steal skelskip@99!

@guardsredd sorry no underneath photos. But I did have my mechanic who specializes in Porsches go through the car and he found nothing underneath that needed attention.
@guardsredd I know people say non truths on line I am an idiot and lost the paperwork that came with the car and I assure you I had paperwork that said the Timing belt had seen replaced. I have about $6000.00 of receipts that I had done.
Car shows really nicely!
The timing belt is a real concern, not knowing when it was replaced basically means it needs replaced immediately, since failure means catastrophic engine damage. With low mile cars like this, generally accepted rule is by time not miles. Many think every 5 years. Some a little less than that. At minimum timing belt and tensioners would need inspected.
Do you have any maintenance records for the car?
Any underneath photos?
GLWS!
@classic-michael Interior is original
Is that a replacement interior?
These early 944s have so much character, the upside-down tachometer so you can see it under the steering wheel, pointed gauge covers to reduce glare, and that’s just the dash gauges! The body lines of these are very nice, and 50-50 weight distribution. What’s not to love?
@Stryker14 My hobby is getting a car, fixing it up selling it and getting another. I rarely make a profit but it’s my enjoyment that counts. Car is way worth buying. There is nothing wrong with the car to my knowledge. Paint is original as far as I know. That’s one of the reasons I bought the car in the first place. Looks incredible. Took second place in class at a car show just two weeks ago.
also it looks like you just bought this car last year, if I may ask what's the reason for the sale and such a short ownership? Thanks
IS this the original paint? Thanks
@dlhesq Sorry, I do not know if the timing belt has been replaced.
Beautiful 944. Do you know when the timing belt was last changed and do you have receipts for that? Thanks
Bid in the amount of $10,000
@Dom33 If you are looking for a super great driver this a as good as you'll find. I do well at shows and I drive it every weekend. Fun! Car!
These 944's in real clean good condition are really starting to grow on me! GLWTS
@uscarrera If you look real hard what is visable under the stone guards is good clean paint. I was thinking of replacing them but they still look pretty good. But as far as condition. There is NO damage under them, I'm sure. Thanks for the interest.
Bid in the amount of $8,000
Any idea of paint condition under the non factory black quarter stone guards?
Thanks
@Nadelson The auction people will not allow us to contact each other. Sorry. I tried to send you my phone number and they said I would be taken off auction if I did that.
Absolutely. Just let me know when you wish to come by. I live in a gated community.
I am about an hour away from cars location. Can I arrange to see it?
