Up for auction is this European-market 1983 Porsche 928 S finished in the unique color combination of Moss Green Metallic over a Green leather interior.  Having set new standards for luxury and performance in its day, the 928 remains one of the most legendary grand touring cars of all time.  Originally imported to the U.S. by Germany Euro, this 1983 example had been under the longtime care of two different owners prior to the seller’s purchase 8 months ago.  Featuring a desirable sunroof delete, European-market trim and a 5-speed manual transmission, this 928 S now being offered for auction showing approximately 95k miles on the odometer.

Stated to have been refinished in Moss Green Metallic under previous ownership, this 928’s paint is said to be in great overall condition with a few minor flaws including some rock chips and some hairline fractures along the rear bumper.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  Noteworthy details include European-market lighting, a sunroof delete and aftermarket multi-piece 17” AT Italia wheels which come dressed in BFGoodrich tires.

Inside, you will find a green leather interior which is said to be in great condition with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional.  The seller also notes that a full air conditioning service was recently carried out.  The stock radio has been replaced with an aftermarket unit.

Factory options include Sport Seats with driver-side power adjustment and a rear window wiper.

A robust Euro-spec 4.7 L V8 engine sends approximately 310 HP to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission.  Performance modifications include upgraded S4 brakes and a short shift kit.  A major service was carried out at 72k miles which included a timing belt replacement, and at 88k miles the clutch was replaced along with the rear main seal.  In 2011 the clutch master cylinder was also replaced, and the car is said to be up to date on all due service with a recent oil and filter change.  Accompanied by records showing consistent maintenance, this 928 is said to be in excellent running order.

The sale of this 928 S will include a set of two keys, English and German factory books, service records dating back to the mid 1980’s, tools and a factory first aid kit.  Do not miss this unique opportunity to own a European-spec Porsche 928 S.

@cgalvao No we don't. Also, the original wheels won't fit as the calipers have been upgraded to S4 Calipers. You can get a nice set of S4 original wheels for about $550 on eBay.

  • cgalvao (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

Beautiful car! Just one quick question: do you have the original wheels? Thanks.

  • VertexAuto (seller) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@nicknash You are correct about the timing belt not being done since 2004/72k miles. We can do the work at our shop for approximately $2,400. Feel free to call us to discuss the details prior to the purchase. Thank you!

  • URS6 (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

    @VertexAuto thank you.

  • buccicone (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

Euro models were all high compression so they are interference engines. Needs timing belt Water pump ASAP if it is going to be driven.

  • nicknash 4 years, 5 monthsago

@VertexAuto so to confirm, the timing belt hasn’t been done since 2004/72k miles? I get confused but the euros were interference engines from the start, correct? Beautiful 928.

  • VertexAuto (seller) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@URS6 The car was used sparingly in those years. The previous owner told me the he garaged the car and only used it for weekend drives in the spring, summer, and fall with a small 928 club he started in Utah. We do have several service records for those years, but nothing major, just regular maintenance.

  • URS6 (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

Can you explain what happened between about 2011 and when you acquired it 8 months ago? Very few records and history during that time and sitting is not always good. Great model though. Later model euro, MT, sunroof delete. Thanks.

@kekoaalona All" fluids/lubricants have not been replaced. We did change oil and coolant. However, transmission, differential, and brakes fluids/lubricants can be done by our shop for an additional fee of approximately $400.

As for the CV joints & boots on half shafts, there are no records indicating that they have ever been replaced. However, we did inspect them and they do not have any tears. We can rebuild both the axles and replace for $800.

The secondary catalytics look to have been removed/bypassed so I don't believe the vehicle has 50 States emission equipment installed.

On the induction system, also no records of previously being done but the hoses don't look dry to us. We can install all new 8 hoses and clean the system out for $1,200.

Since you mentioned that service records are difficult to see, here is a breakdown of what we have prior to 2000 (Excluding minor things like oil changes and small parts) There are a lot of other records prior to 2000 as well.

    Clutch Master & Crossover Line 6/2011 $1040.50
Clutch Kit, Rear Main Seal, Power Steering Hose 10/2009 $2,172.87
    Brake Light Switch 5/2004 $284
    Alternator & Inner Door Handles 3/2007 $511.13
Control Arms, Springs, Bilstine Shocks, Wheel Bearing, Alignment, + misc 7/2006 $3579.25
    Exhaust Crossover Pipe 5/2006 $638.37
    Motor Mounts 7/2004
Timing Belt, Rollers, Water Pump, Tensioners, Etc 1/2004 $1163.12
Cap & Rotor, Spark Plugs, Ignition Wires, Belts, etc 7/2003 $638.24

I hope this helps. Feel free to call us to discuss things further. Thank you!

@jp14 Welcome and great catch! This is a 4.7L engine. The error is in the engine identification badge. Thank you!

  • VertexAuto (seller) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@Kary4th Yes, I don't see why not. I've driven the car various times without any issues or indications of any.

  • jp14 4 years, 5 monthsago

First time commenting. Beautiful car. Is there a discrepancy between the written description and photo of engine identification badge? 4.7 L vs 4.5 L, respectively? Excuse my ignorance if I'm missing something.

  • checkmate1996 (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@kekoaalona CV joints need replaced based on the pictures as one looks torn so regardless of records they need redone. I am also guessing a rear main seal replacement in short order.

  • kekoaalona (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

Hello, Can you say whether "all" fluids/lubricants i.e. transmission, differential, coolant, brakes, have been replaced by your shop or indicated in the service records. Any indications for replacing of CV joints & boots on half shafts, including drive line. Difficult to read the maintenance records you've posted. Any feedback on induction system and hoses you mentioned in a previous statement. Does the vehicle have 50 States emission equipment installed on the vehicle.
    Thank You

  • Kary4th (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

I take it that you feel the car is in, “drive it home a thousand miles,” condition at this time?

  • VertexAuto (seller) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@checkmate1996 Undercarriage images have been uploaded, detailing the upgraded brakes, suspension, engine, and body. I also wanted to note that we recently serviced the air conditioning system and it now blows ice cold. Ready for summer driving!

  • VertexAuto (seller) 4 years, 5 monthsago

    @Acwilson.us That is undisclosed information.

  • Acwilson.us (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

How do I find out what the reserve is?

  • VertexAuto (seller) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@checkmate1996 I’ll ask my techs about the intake runners and check service records to see what short shift kit was installed by the previous owner. I’ll also get the car on a lift Monday and submit undercarriage pics as well as a drive video. Rear brakes are S4. A clutch kit was installed less than 10k miles ago.

  • checkmate1996 (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@JNasty yeah totally agree If you track the car you need the helmet space. I’m a little over six foot and have no issues with headroom with a sunroof. So I guess it depends on what’s important to you. :)

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@checkmate1996 - the "sunroof delete" appeal in the P-car world is mostly weight and where that weight is carried (lower w/ no roof). Height of driver matters too. Not sure "they break" is the driver :)

@checkmate1996 - more power to anyone who enjoys sunroofs...they are just not for me.

  • checkmate1996 (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

@RumbleAuto @stevetheodore having both variations I can say a well functioning sunroof is great on sunny days and long drives. Being able to get air flow with both windows up and sun is nice. I think sun roofs got a bad rap because a lot end up. Not working and can be challenging to repair.

  • RumbleAuto (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

The fact that PCARMARKET always seems to do a great job of calling out 'sunroof delete' makes me happy beyond words. I only lust after sunroof delete models (with very few exceptions...meaning cars that never were offered that way), and so they always get my attention!

  • checkmate1996 (registered bidder) 4 years, 5 monthsago

Beautiful color combo. A couple of comments. The intake runners look like they need replaced. For any serious buyers I would think under carriage shots are needed. What short shift kit did you put in? What brakes are you using for the rears? S4s or stock? Driving video? This also the 300hp Euro spec not the the 310. Also the ad lists the wrong importer of the car. More details on transmission would be helpful as well as clutch.
