Produced from 1960 to 1984, the J40-series Toyota Land Cruiser features a rugged body-on-frame design that offers legendary reliability and off-road performance. Due to its extended cabin and rear seating arrangement, the long-wheelbase FJ45 variant earned the nickname “Troopy” for its use around the world as a military troop carrier. Having remained with its first owner from 1982 until 2002, this 1982 example was imported from South America in February and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
This example is said to have been finished in its original specified shade of tan with a contrasting white front grille and roof panel. The long wheelbase is constructed of a suspended steel body for ideal off-roading abilities. Details include fender-mounted fog lights, black window trim, a rear step, and the original wheels and hubcaps which are mounted with older Firestone ATX Radial 23 tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been reupholstered to OEM appearance with grey vinyl along the seats and door inserts. Equipment includes manually operated windows, a black-finished steering wheel, shifter, and hand brake, as well as exterior painted surrounds. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
This FJ is equipped with the venerable 4.2-liter 6-cylinder 2F engine, sending up to 135 HP and 210 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels or all four wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox. The seller states that the original engine and transmission remain, and an oil and filter change was carried out in October of 2022.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller wants you to know: “The best feature of this car is how original it is. The level of preservation is outstanding. This example drives as it was intended to from the factory!”
