Among Porsche's most iconic cars, the Porsche 928 is powered by a robust 4.5-liter V8 engine paired with an accommodating 3-speed automatic transaxle. Previously sold on PCARMARKET in February 2021, this 1982 example comes finished in Platinum Metallic over a Chocolate leather interior. It is reported to have been regularly maintained, which includes changing all of the fluids within the last two years, addressing gaskets, seals, hoses, and filters as needed, and a recent rebuild of the transmission. Most recently cared for by a PCA judge and entrant, this three-owner 928 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida showing approximately 96k miles on the odometer.
This 928 is finished in Platinum Metallic and rides on factory 16” Phone Dial wheels that are dressed in Continental tires dated from 2020. Notable exterior options include a sunroof and rear window wiper. The seller notes a few minor blemishes and the front bumper and left front fender have been replaced due to an incident at a mechanic’s shop. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is upholstered in Chocolate leather and includes optional six-way power Sport Seats, power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, steering column tilt, an aftermarket Pioneer radio, and an updated R134 air conditioning system. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.
This 928 is equipped with a 4.5-liter V8 that was factory rated at 236 HP and 280 lb.-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a recently rebuilt 3-speed automatic transaxle. Upgraded Bilstein shocks with front coil springs are said to have been installed, along with upgraded slotted brake rotors and pads. Recent maintenance items include all fluids changed within the last two years, and servicing the gaskets, seals, hoses, and filters as needed, along with the installation of a new fuel tank. The seller reports that there are currently no outstanding maintenance items.
This sale will include a clean title, four keys, Coco floor mats, owner’s manuals, and some documentation.
The seller would like you to know: "Thank you for visiting my 1982 928 listing. Under my 2 year ownership, I have taken so much time to make this an amazing daily driver and local car show winner. I am a recognized PCA judge and entrant and know how to prepare. The color pops and every day it is driven welcoming comments are made. Everything is up to date and ready to roll."

@Governor I will not pay the freight, but might contribute. I know a few transporters. Although PCAR can line up someone.
@husker_boxster Yes Rennlist it good. Best place for new and good used parts is 928 International. Everyone has said for the past 20 years "too expensive to maintain" NOT SO
Can you assist with transporting the car to Colorado?
@mrboxsters They are easy to work on, parts are available, lots of youtube videos, and a knowledgable user community on rennlist. These are fun cars.
@mrboxsters My last 2 oil and filter changes averaged $180 for the 928. My 991 oil change service last year exceeded $550.
The 928 is an easy do it your self job.
Beautiful! Working on a bid but wanted to know how the maintenance on this compares to a 911.

@Elvira_Lopez Trans went all at once, except reverse. That is a Mercedes transmission. Had Eibell Performance in Clearwater remove it and sent it to a Mercedes shop to have it completely reconditioned and all new seals at 98482 miles No leaks. replaced left and right front motor dampners. at 96376 miles
@911airfan Was the transmission rebuilt only due to slipping, or was there any other reason? Also can you comment on the condition of the motor mounts? Thank you.
@SilverRose other misc. stuff Tires, fuel tank replacement, radio, carpets, hood liner, ect. Things add up to make this 928 as nice as any 41 year car and better than most 96,000 mile 928`s. Solid car.
@911airfan - thanks, that gets us to $6K, right? $1400 (paint/body) and $4500 (tranny), you noted $11K? What gets us to the other $5K spent please.
Bid in the amount of $8,500
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@SilverRose sent invoices for the 2 major repairs and PCAR will upload them. Dash has not changed and not getting worse. No cracks. If you look at the 2 year old listing and my listing of the photos of the front bumper, you can see the big change. When I got the car I was going to repair the bumper . Worked out better for me. Whole car is better now, thanks to my detail skills and money spent.
Bid in the amount of $8,250
@911airfan - couple QQs please, so 1) nose/front spoiler painted or not since last auction (see P15 last auction), 2) no change in leather lifting off dash in P38 last auction? 3) Still have that great period EQ on the stalk in the last auction? P40? Included? Can you post your $11K in receipts? And that includes the shop accident repair or not? Thanks.

@eurocol After I bought the car i took it in m\to my mechanics shop for a general checkup, a few gaskets replaced and fluid change ect. While in his lot a small truck backed into it and creased the left front fender and bumper
The 2 front rotors are slotted.
Under my ownership a several minor cosmetic things done. Major expenses were 4 new tires, am/fm/cd/bt radio, fuel tank replaced, front coil springs replaced, transmission rebuilt. Will try to post invoices later. My total outlay about $11000.
@miamitugas got a few things to do first thing Saturday but will be available after noon time . let me know your schedule.
Bid in the amount of $7,000
I live nearby. Can I see the car this weekend?
Bid in the amount of $6,000
@911airfan sweet car, what exactly happened in the accident that caused the damage and subsequent replacement of the front bumper and fender?,
please post the invoice for bodywork repair,
also looking at pictures 10 through 14 it appears that only one disc has a slotted disc?
Is that correct?
Please specify the work carried out during your tenure, and post the invoices.
many thanks,
Bid in the amount of $3,750
If I had room for it I would have loved to buy this car. I have known the owner for over forty years and he is meticulous with his cars. As a fellow long term PCA member like him I can say this is a super nice car.
Bid in the amount of $3,500
@AtLast I am the 3rd owner. From the car fax and records in my possession, the 2nd owner bought it in 1991 from Schneider Porsche, New Jersey. I purchased it from that owner in February 2021 and had it transported to Florida.
I have a stack of records from the 2nd owner from when he bought it dated May 1991 , mileage 67000. and all the records from when I purchased it. The only major paint work is the replacement left front fender and bumper. Door and hood blend. Perfect match.
Do you know how many owners, any paintwork, how far back do the records go?
Bid in the amount of $3,000
@Alvir21852 I use 93 octane. mileage around town about 14. Highway about 17. On occasion I will use 89 octane and see no difference in mileage or performance.
What octane gas are u using? Do u put in ethanol?what kind of mileage does that V8 deliver? Very nice 928. I have an ‘82 924 Turbo. And the 928 is like big brother. Very fast!
Lutz is in North Tampa, so the drive is about 80 miles , maybe 1/12 hours

I saw this car recently at an event. Absolutely Stunning ! Beautiful Color and Interior combination. Should get a lot of love on the auction !
I have seen the car and have known the owner for many years. His cars have won many wash and shine and concures. He enjoys the reputation of attending a PCA event with the cleanest car. He has been a PCA member since the early 1980s and a past president. While all cars with this many miles are not perfect, I will bet this is one of the nicest examples.
@Jsachs71 I needed something to do during Covid. My business was down and I had a lot of spare time. This was a good candidate to make it a very nice daily driver and local PCA regional event car. I current have 2 other Porsches and my wife`s car and only a 2 car garage. It filled my needs at the time.
Why selling so soon after so much love put into her?
From my conversation with the previous owner, the TB and WP were replaced at about 90000 miles. This is about the time the A/C system was converted to R134. Upon my ownership and my mechanics inspections the condition of the belt substantiates that.
Silverose, thanks for getting the bidding going.. Previous owner did not provide the slotted wheels. Dash wrinkles in the one area. Not any worse and no cracks. the right door scratch really shows up bad in the picture, however it is hardly noticeable in real time. I think a good detail guy with a professional buffer could correct it. I do not have the expertise.
@seller - still have the extra slotted wheels that the last auction came with? Also 1) is that door scratch new and 2), please, is the dash shrinkage/wrinkles worse or the same?
@seller - when were timing belt and WP last done please?
