This 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser is a U.S.-market FJ40 equipped with a 4.2-liter straight-six engine and a 4-speed manual gearbox. It features manual locking front hubs, a dual-range transfer case, a 3” lift kit, steel skid plates, inward-facing rear jump seats, a padded roll bar, and a removable hardtop. Said to have undergone a body-off restoration between 2006 and 2008, this 40-Series Land Cruiser was recently serviced and is now being offered for auction out of California.
This FJ40 is finished in White with a matching grille and removable fiberglass hardtop, black bumpers, and polished 15’ wheels. Equipment includes headlight guards, hood straps, dual taillights, rear swing-out doors, a rear trailer hitch, and a full-size rear-mounted spare wheel. The truck rides on older 33”x12” BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires and the seller notes some chips and scratches around the exterior, a crack in the passenger indicator lens, a bend in the front bumper, and imperfections on the wheels. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The body-colored interior features grey vinyl upholstery on the seats, dashboard, and door panels. Accessories include a black three-spoke steering wheel, a padded roll bar, manual window cranks, a heater, a glovebox, a center console tray, inward-facing rear jump seats, and rubber floor mats. The seller notes some cracks on the dashboard and the gear pattern emblem is missing from the shift knob.
A 4.2-liter inline-six engine delivers up to 135 HP and 210 lb.-ft of torque to the rear or all four wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox and a dual-range transfer case. The truck is equipped with manually locking front hubs and features suspension with a 3” lift kit. The seller states a full restoration was completed between 2006 and 2008, and the CARFAX report shows service in 2024 including an oil change, brake fluid flush, and new brake pads and drums.
This sale will include an owner’s manual, the original window sticker, service records, and a clean title.
