Up for auction is this 1981 Porsche 930 Turbo Coupe finished in Black Metallic over a black leather interior. One of a reported 63 examples built for the Canadian market in 1981, this Turbo was eventually acquired by its current owner in 1991 from the John Scotti Automotive Group in Montreal. The car is said to have been garage-kept and regularly driven ever since while never being subjected to track use. A top-end engine rebuild was carried out in 2017 and the transmission was also fully rebuilt in 2019. Showing just over 122k kilometers (76k miles) on the odometer while highlighting a desirable RoW-spec engine and optional limited-slip differential, this rare Canadian-market Turbo is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of Nova Scotia.
This 930 is finished in Black Metallic (708), although the certificate of authenticity refers to the color as “Mocha Black”. Some small stone chips are noted throughout the exterior as well as a slight dimple on the left rear fender. A previous owner is said to have applied a clear coat over the hood, additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. Some notable features include front fog lights, a lower front air dam, wide fenders, and a distinctive Tea Tray rear spoiler. This Turbo rides on factory 16” Fuchs wheels measuring 7” wide in front and 8” wide in the rear, and are dressed in an older set of Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires.
Inside, this Turbo sports a black leather interior with an optional black headliner, alarm system, passenger-side electric mirror, and an electric sunroof. A Porsche crest has been added to the center of the steering wheel and an aftermarket radio has been installed, although the original Blaupunkt radio will also be included in the sale. A small wear spot is noted on the driver's seat piping as well as a scuff near the shift boot. The A/C is currently nonfunctional as the compressor has been removed, and all other systems are said to be fully functional. The odometer is reported to have been previously repaired and there was reportedly no mileage added during the interim.
This 930 carries an RoW-spec 3.3L turbocharged flat-six engine rated at 300 HP stock, compared with its 282 HP U.S.-spec counterpart. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual transmission with a factory-optioned limited-slip differential. An upgraded TiAL 46mm wastegate has been installed and set to stock pressure. Upgraded stainless steel brake lines have also been equipped as well as oil-fed chain tensioners and a diaphragm clutch. A top-end engine rebuild is said to have been carried out in 2017 following head stud failure, and all the head studs were subsequently replaced during this time along with the alternator, exhaust valve guides, rings, seals, chains, guides, and hoses. The transmission was rebuilt in 2019 and the clutch is reported to have plenty of life left. The seller reports the drivetrain to be numbers matching, images of the underside and engine stamping are provided in the photo gallery. The muffler is recommended for replacement and a new aftermarket free-flow muffler will be included in the sale.
This sale will include a set of multiple keys, a spare tire, toolkit, workshop manuals, the original Blaupunkt radio, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a new muffler, and a clean title. This rare Canadian-market 930 Turbo is ready to be enjoyed by a new caretaker, do not miss out.

The additional 18 hp the RoW motor offers makes all of the difference. I’ve owned several 930s, and while most of them aren’t stock, two of them were. A stock US spec and a stock Canadian spec, and the 18 hp increase from the RoW motor is quite impressive. If anyone drove the 2 cars back to back they would definitely notice the difference and prefer the RoW or Canadian spec version over the US spec.

@pillion77 on the way
@voodoo Hi there, I know it has been asked for below but Id really like to see in the least the invoices for the work that was completed on the engine and the transmission if at all possible.
Thanks!
@JMS935 thanks for the info
All bodies were stamped with WPOZZZ in the frunk when they were first built not knowing which market they would end up getting sold to. Which means that every car that ended up getting sold outside of the RoW market ended up getting assigned a new permanent VIN when they were going through final assembly for that specific market. This car’s final VIN is the one on the title. This should be common knowledge by now with as many times as I’ve reiterated this fact, both here and on BaT.
There were no under hood options stickers in 1981, so this car isn’t missing one. That practice started during model year 1984.

@Jb423 no paint meter readings. Another bidder tried to arrange for some in our area but no luck. Re compression test, you would have to talk with tech who did it but note it was a heads and cylinder barrels off rebuild. New rings, exhaust guides. Pictures available are those at auction site. No km issue when speedo repaired...I did not drive it..was only parked a week. The Vin anomaly is really interesting and a little piece of Porsche history....in 1981 , 930's were not imported into US due to EPA rules. They were still ok to import into Canada. To meet the low volume, Porsche simply reassigned some Rest of World 930 to meet Canadian demand. They were adapted to Canadian regs. This created a distinct 1981 turbo and that required a new VIN.The VIN in the trunk is the original and correct Rest of the World VIN ( 4 x Z).The VIN on the COA, windshield post and vehicle registration is the Canadian version....note it is identical except the Z's have been replaced with numerals . This underlines how rare these Canadian 930's are. No hood options sticker....gone before my time. I do have original warrant book.
Important questions from PLAY_HARD should be addressed. Please.

@Voodoo Hi Voodoo, thank you for the reply, it surely helps to know the car better!
1. Were leak-down and compression tests done during the engine overhaul? Could you include invoices of the overhaul work, please?
2. Can you post walk around and driving videos, please?
3. Can you please provide paint meter readings?
4. The VIN stamp on the firewall does not match what is written on COA, do you know the reason?
5. How many kms roughly were put on until the odometer was repaired?
6. Do you have under hood options sticker, warranty book, or any other original paperwork etc?
I also sent you a DM, please check.
Thank you.
@Voodoo I’ll direct message you. Thanks
@Bulletproofauto no problem. How do you want to do it.?
@Voodoo I just did and they highly recommend them whenever possible. I'm most concerned about having the paint inspected.
@Bulletproofauto i think you.need to ck with PCARMARKET policy.
@Voodoo sent you a direct message about the possibility of a Pre purchase inspection
@PLAY_HARD hi: I have the compressor but not the compressor mount. Everything else is installed and the circulating fan works but beyond that I can’t say what it would take to get it operating again. I have some service records and for sure for the engine and trans overhauls. The only other item that needs attention soon would be the muffler….it is still functional but past its best before dste. Last service late 2020. Hope this helps.
Hi there, I was wondering: 1. What are the known issues need to be address if there’s any? 2. Do you still have the AC compressor? Would AC work properly if it is installed back on? 3. Do you have all service records, including the engine and tranny rebuilding work? 4. When was the last service done? Thank you.
@Bulletproofauto I can't explain the anomaly but I have gone with Mocha Black
@Bulletproofauto The only paintwork since 1991 is touching up the odd paint chip on the exterior and engine bay using a fine brush
The narrative describes the car as Black Metallic and the car does appear in the photos to be this colour however the COA describes the colour as Mocha Black A2A2, are they one in the same ?
@Voodoo since 1991 when you've owned the car has there been any paintwork?

Nice car! I didn’t realize Turbos were available without sport seats. This must be a rare spec.
Bid in the amount of $5,000
@82turboruf exactly why I asked. The seller is not wrong that these weren't sold in the USA that year but this is not an ROW car, Canada is not ROW, never has been. I have an ROW 911 so I know a bit about it. If you google 930 row you'll find many with euro bumpers and assorted row spec pieces. The only difference here is the Canadian environmental laws were similar to the Euro laws so no detuning of the engine was needed at the time, whereas the CDN vehicles usually mimic'd the USA detuned versions because they were shipping them on the same ships...
@Voodoo Hi: Just to see the car start & run & go through the motions & gears. I am sure you enjoy driving it.
Thanks.
Re heads....I spoke with tech who rebuilt the engine. He states that the heads were not damaged and found to be up to spec, so no trimming required.
why doesn't the vin start with a WPOZZZ?
Were Canadian turbos on a separate sequence/number system?
what do you want to see in the driving video?
Hi; can you post a cold start and driving video?
Thanks
@harv666…RoW stands for rest of world, meaning rest of world other than or outside of the United States. Canada is not in the US, so thus their 930s were spec’d with RoW motors, which are superior to the detuned US version. The only reason US has their own version of engines different from the rest of the world is because they had the strictest EPA compliance laws, so Porsche had to make a version just for the US. Those that prefer a US spec 930 over a RoW version simply don’t get that the RoW version is how Porsche intended the car to be, while the US version is what Porsche needed to do to the car to allow them to sell them in the US.
How is it this is a Canadian shipped car with an row engine?
