Introduced in 1977, the Porsche 928 is a 2+2 grand touring car that combines the comfort and ride quality of a luxury sedan with the handling and performance of a sports car. Finished in Guards Red over a black leather interior, this 1981 Porsche 928 is equipped with a 4.5-liter V8 engine paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. It was acquired by the seller in 2014 and received a replacement engine in 2024. Showing approximately 104k miles on the odometer, this first-generation Porsche 928 is now being offered for auction as a project car by its owner out of Florida.
This 928 is finished in Guards Red and equipped with aftermarket pop-up headlights, headlamp washers, integrated fog lights, a front spoiler, an electric sunroof, power mirrors, a rear window wiper, a rear spoiler, and dual exhaust tips. The car rides on 16” flat dish alloy wheels dressed in Hankook Ventus V2 Concept tires. Some exterior cosmetic imperfections are depicted in the photo gallery and the CARFAX report shows a collision with minor rear-end damage in 2016.
The black leather interior features custom sport seats with red piping and 928-embroidered headrests. Accessories include a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows. The seller indicates the instrument cluster is inoperative and the factory radio has been removed. Cosmetic damage, missing parts, and signs of wear are visible throughout the cabin.
Up to 231 HP and 265 lb.-ft of torque comes from a replacement 4.5-liter V8 engine that was installed in 2024. The seller indicates the 3-speed automatic transmission suffers inconsistent gear selection and requires repair or replacement.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This car was loved and used by an elderly man who can no longer keep the car.”

DT direct makes a lot of sense here as most the auctions are just wasting 7 days. Great idea.
For a few thousand dollars you can own a classic 928. If you can see through the cosmetic issues and do the work yourself it can be a regular drive as it has been for many years.
