Finished in Pacific Blue Metallic over a brown interior, this 1981 Porsche 911SC Targa has been continually maintained at Rennsport Automotive since the current owner’s purchase in 2008 including routine service, installation of a rebuilt transmission, a new steering rack, oil tank, and a refurbished Targa top. Accompanied by a clean title, this 911SC is now being offered for auction at no reserve by its seller out of New York.
This 911SC is finished in Pacific Blue Metallic (31G), an uncommon Porsche color offered on both the 911SC and 928 models during 1981 and 1982. Equipment includes front fog lights, U.S. specification bumperettes and “sugar scoop” H4 headlights, a black Targa band, and a removable roof panel that was refurbished in 2011. The seller notes the car was likely refinished at some point and describes the paint to be in fair condition with some cosmetic flaws as depicted in the gallery. The associated CARFAX report shows damage to the rear end in 2001. This Targa rides on factory 16” Fuchs wheels with Michelin Pilot Exalto tires.
The interior is trimmed in brown leatherette upholstery including a matching dashboard and carpeting contrasted by tan “911SC” logo floor mats. Split seams are shown on the lower seat cushions as well as general signs of wear and patina throughout the cabin. An aftermarket radio has been installed and the seller reports all gauges and accessories are working properly.
Up to 180 HP comes from an air-cooled 3.0L flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed 915 manual transmission that drives the rear wheels. The seller states all required service has been completed by the specialists at Rennsport Automotive in New York since 2008 including the installation of a rebuilt transmission at 49k miles as well as a new steering rack and oil tank fitted in 2015 at 59k miles. Extensive maintenance records are said to accompany the sale.
The CARFAX report shows a potential odometer rollback in 1998 as well as a salvage/rebuilt title issued by the state of Tennessee in 2000. A clean New York title will accompany the sale (mileage exempt).

@RAL The engine already has the upgraded chain tensioners
So no head studs, no tensioner upgrade, tins look to be badly corroded. Engine out service is at least a 15K bill, A/C if needed is another 7-8K, interior 3K, paint correction $? Got to be careful on this one, you could be underwater in a hurry.
@stupendous As far as we know the head studs have not been replaced but they are intact. No oil leaks at all. The compression is between 165 and 155psi with 5 to 8 % cylinder leakage. the engine is very tight and starts and idles fine

@Rennsport. I'd like to follow up on some of the questions of @IAS AND @RAL that have not yet been addressed. Engine work, compression test, deferred maintenance, head studs, tensioner?
@RAL the car tracks perfectly
Bid in the amount of $17,400
Bid in the amount of $16,775
@Rennsport, what about the head studs, have they been checked or replaced? Upgraded chain tensioner? Thanks.
@Rennsport, does the car track straight down the road? Does it pull to one side or the other? Is there any indication that the reported damage to the rear affects the handling of the car whatsoever?
Bid in the amount of $16,250
Hi. Has there been any recent engine work? A compression test? Has the engine been rebuilt and when? If not how long do you think it has until it needs a rebuild?
Are the fenders and hood mismatched for color? It appears the rt front differs the most.
