Up for auction is this European-spec 1981 Porsche 911 SC finished in Guards Red over a black leather interior with custom Red Tartan upholstery. Reported to have spent the first 5 years of its life in Europe before being imported to the U.S. in 1986, this 911 SC has been kept in top running condition with a full engine rebuild performed in 2018 and a full glass-out respray done in 2019. Showcasing subtle modifications including ghosted Porsche racing stripes, this stand-out 911 SC is now being offered by its seller in Texas with approximately 91k miles shown on the odometer.
In 2019, this SC was treated to a full glass-out respray in Guards Red with custom ghosted Porsche racing stripes down the center and along both sides of the car (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). This 911 features sugar-scoop headlights, Euro-spec bumperettes and lighting, black exterior trim, a sunroof and staggered-width 16” Fuchs-style wheels which come dressed in Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval tires. Tire measurements are 205/55 in front and 225/50 at the rear.
The black leather interior was professionally reupholstered in 2018 with new carpeting and Red Tartan fabric seat inserts. An Alpine AM/FM/Bluetooth head unit has been installed in the factory location and a silver shift knob has been paired with the upgraded Rennsport short shifter. All gauges, electrical components and accessories are noted to be in good working order.
Offering higher compression than its U.S. market counterpart, the Euro-spec air cooled 3.0 L flat-six engine in this 911 is rated at 204 HP stock. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a numbers matching Type 915 5-speed manual transmission. A full engine rebuild is said to have been carried out in 2018 and performance modifications have also been installed including a Dansk muffler, SSI heat exchangers and a Carrera chain tensioner update. Approximately 1,500 miles have been driven since the engine rebuild and this SC is reported to be in excellent running order.
The sale of this 911 will include multiple keys and service records. With a recent engine rebuild and some attractive customizations, this 911 SC is the perfect choice for any aspiring air-cooled owner.

I lowered the reserve price... let’s see if we can’t get the bids there.
Thanks!!

Thanks for the bid, we’re coming down to the wire. The car looks immaculate and runs great. Fresh engine rebuild, new clutch, new carpet, seats. Lots of love and care went into this car.
Bid in the amount of $25,000
@tfroeh8 thanks, you won’t be disappointed. It truly is a great car.
@Gcleath1 Sorry I can’t see it in person, cant make it tonight. But I am still very interested and plan to bid.
Hope to meet you, it wouldn’t cost me much to get it home.
@tfroeh8 How flexible are you? I can show it tonight? I’m leaving for Lubbock tomorrow morning to visit my daughter and will be back Thursday evening.
I wish I had more of an opportunity to show it to you, it’s a great car, beautiful restoration. There’s not another car like it.
The stripes and Porsche Graphic are very subtle.. they kinda sneak up on you, someone will be looking at the car and after I while they’ll notice the stripes...
I am very interested in your car. It is very similar to my first Porsche. I live in Dallas. Is there anyway I could see it tomorrow afternoon or evening before the end of the auction?
Thanks.
@Morefun Hi,
The graphics are painted on.
Are the “ghosted” graphics painted on or removable!
Bid in the amount of $20,000
@amissair as far as I know it wasn’t replaced?
When was the CDI box replaced?
@Gcleath1 After reading the guidance again from Hagerty...... I bet it’s a 2... if not a two it’s pretty darn close.
Fresh window out paint, no dings, interior is clean, new seats, new carpet...
Fresh engine rebuild, fresh clutch, new shifter and bushings...
It looks and drives great
Bid in the amount of $16,125
@muirfrey Boy, I don’t know that I’m qualified to do that. But.... I would consider it at least a 3... very good. But not a 2...
What level of hagerty condition do you consider your car to be?
@ Forrester59
Thanks for the bid! That’s a nice opening bid and I appreciate it.
@amissair It’s going to have to be tomorrow for extra pictures, I’m bringing the car to a show and I’ll take some then.
@murdoch1986 Thank you for the nice feedback!
@reinyb Sorry it took me so long to respond, I’ve been on an airplane most of the day.
The only thing that has been done with the transmission was a new clutch and fly wheel.
The shifter was also replaced with a Rennsport short shifter.... JWest engineering.... and all the bushings were replaced.
All of the emissions items were removed including the Cat. Back dated SSI heat exchangers were installed.
Bid in the amount of $15,000
Two questions for the seller
1. Was the transmission refreshed during engine rebuild?
2. Can you confirm it does not have CATS on it ? I am in California and getting it to pass our smog nazis will be impossible without, so I'd have to go the Montana LLC route.
This is a real beauty! Well done!!
Hey, thanks for looking. Yes, I will take some extra pictures later this afternoon and get them posted.
Could you post a better picture of the ghosted livery? The photos shown are heavily color saturated and are not showing those details well. Same goes for the interior photos. Tartan looks more fuscia than red. Thanks
