Boasting the longest production run of any Mercedes-Benz vehicle second only to the G-Class, the R107 SL-Class is a testament to the brand’s build quality and advanced engineering of the time period. This 1981 example was delivered new in Switzerland finished in Midnight Blue over Palomino leather, and equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission. The car has had only two owners and was maintained by its last caretaker for over 15 years. Accompanied by an original service booklet and Mercedes-Benz Classic certification, this 500SL is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Switzerland showing approximately 11k kilometers or 7k miles on the odometer.
This R107 is finished in Midnight Blue (Dunkelblau 904) with matching lower body cladding and a Dark Blue fabric soft top. In comparison to U.S. market cars, R107s built for European roads feature much slimmer bumpers as well as different headlights with square lenses. Other equipment on this SL includes chrome trim and mirror caps, headlamps washers, front fog lights, polished dual exhaust tips, and factory 14” Bundt alloy wheels dressed in Michelin tires.
The cabin is appointed with Palomino leather complemented by matching carpets, black floor mats, and Zebrano wood trim. Accessories include power windows, heating, a rear window defogger, adjustable seats, and an aftermarket Blaupunkt radio.
The fuel-injected 5.0-liter V8 engine produces up to 237 HP and 296 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission. Stopping power comes from four-wheel disc brakes with ABS. The seller notes the car has been regularly maintained by a Mercedes-Benz dealer and a classic certification accompanies the sale.
This sale will include the original window sticker and sales documents, a toolkit, a spare tire, a battery charger, and a clean title.

@Porschegstaad No AC, no useless hartop, no ugly bumpers or spoilers and a powerful V8 (at the time).
Take it to RENNtech Classic and do a period-correct manual transmission conversion... Pure perfection.
@Martinarens10 Yes we can arrange transport to NL, That usually costs about 3K with a closed trailer.
Is it possible you take care of transport to the Netherlands, and if so at what costs?
Danke!
@SofiaLeo Yes it can be so when a car has been polished several times, also this car was painted at the factory back in 1981 not with the same precision as cars from the 90s or 00s. Some panels like doors, hoods were painted separately than the shell. But looking at these results we are very confident and sure that this is a first paint car. Furthermore we know the two owners who have owned the car since new and are both collectors who take immense care in their cars.
I had this color combo in a euro 280. Easily one of the best options in terms of color and interior. Beautiful example.
@Porschegstaad Nice 500Sl! There is some inconstancy in the paint meter readouts. Are 100% sure that this car is all 100% original paint on every panel? Thank you
@Porschegstaad Thank you

@ftsuru Hello, The tires date from 2007 and we will fit new ones prior to delivery. Yes we can assit in shipping the car to Houston either by Air (4 days) or Sea (2 to 3 weeks).
What a beautiful car! I don't assume this car is equipped with a hard top? Do you have date codes for the tires? I know the tires do not have many miles on them but they do time out. What is the process and how much does it cost to get the car to Houston, TX? Would you be able to to handle the logistics on your side (obviously except for the cost)?
@AndyL215 The listing has been corrected, we appreciate the input.
@AndyL215 No worries at all. It was quite common back in the early 80s for the R107s to not have AC as the system was not very performant. I guess there was a slight error in that regard when the team wrote the description. Apologies.
@Porschegstaad I’m not a hater. I’m actually a huge fan but you weren’t responding and if you read the write up on the car is says it has AC which it doesn’t. This car is amazing and I wish you the best in your sale. I had a 93 same color and interior and I miss it everyday.
For i fo this car is certified accident free, first oaint, original Swiss car and does not come with a hard top. In 1981 the hardtop was an option from Mercedes-Benz Schweiz. The first owner spec’ed it without.
@AndyL215 we are replying to all of your questions and also to all the haters like you.
@AndyL215 correct this example does not have AC
@Farmhouse27 the white exhaust is condensation because of an outside temperature of below zero. Yes we can upload a video of the car running and driving tomorrow.
@nelsondcalle the car is a 100% first paint and we can supply full paint measurements. They will be uploaded tomorrow.
@AndyL215 hello, this is a 1981 model so very early car and in that model year the European spec 500SL R107 dis not feature the “ugly” rubber spoiler.
I don’t see the air conditioner controls. I don’t think it has AC.
Large bid for a car that the owner hasn’t responded to any questions on.
Can we see a picture of the car running without all the white exhaust smoke .
Very interested in this beauty.
Please comment

Hello, do you have paint measurements for the car please?
Bid in the amount of $5,000
Gorgeous car I had the exact same one and regret selling it. I will be the first to ask. Where is the rubber trunk spoiler that all 500sl’s had ? Has the car had any damage or been repainted ?
Hi:Mai’s there a hardtop
