After being featured as Doc Brown’s time machine in the 1985 film Back to the Future, the Delorean DMC-12 became one of the most recognized vehicles in pop culture, iconic for its brushed stainless-steel bodywork and gullwing doors. This 1981 example is said to have been delivered new in California and has remained under the care of the original owner ever since, enjoying a lifetime of regular maintenance including a recent service, new tires, new headliner, and a new battery. Showing just over 34k miles on the odometer, this DMC-12 is now being offered at auction by its seller out of California.
The DeLorean DMC-12 was styled by legendary Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and features brushed stainless-steel bodywork mated to a steel frame derived from the Lotus Esprit. Exterior details include gull-wing doors, quad headlamps, front driving lights, rear window louvers, black bumper covers, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes some minor wear to the body panels and some small dents throughout, detailed images are provided in the gallery. The 14”/15” turbine-style cast-alloy wheels are mounted with new Uniroyal tires.
The interior is upholstered in grey Bridge of Weir leather featuring two bucket seats with a matching dashboard, door panels, center console, and carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, full power accessories, an aftermarket JVC head unit, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, intermittent windshield wipers, a rear cargo net, and an electric rear-window defroster. The seller reports a new headliner was installed, and the fuel level gauge and voltage gauge occasionally flicker.
The DeLorean DMC-12 is powered by a mid-mounted 2.85L Peugeot-Renault-Volvo (PRV) V6 equipped with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Up to 130 HP and 153 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. Performance features include a four-wheel independent suspension with telescopic shock absorbers, double wishbones up front and a multilink setup in the rear, and power-assisted disc brakes at all corners. This DMC-12 is accompanied by comprehensive maintenance records including a recent full service and new battery.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a car cover, detailed service records, and associated literature for the DMC-12.

@Sp1ke That’s the place the original owner took it, I have no info on the shop other than the records I provided.
Is Renzi's Auto, the place where all of your service records are, still operating? At the address there is a Ross and their phone number isn't functioning. Have they gone out of business? Are they a personal friend of yours? Have they changed location and phone number?

@CARS458 thanks for following up on the smog test and adding that extra layer of confidence
Bid in the amount of $26,000
I’m currently out of town and trying to get the smog resolved before the auction ends, but letting the winning bidder know that they will receive a completed smog certificate with the car, I believe the car was running too Rich on the previous smog test, we have an appointment with the shop to make proper adjustments and give it a once over then get a smog but again as mention you will be receiving a completed smog certificate and that means even if we have to replace any parts to make that happen, will most likely be just adjustments but worse case a new catalytic converter. I’m putting that in the comment section as a reassurance to the buyer(s).
Bid in the amount of $25,500
@CARS458 Thanks for confirming. I definitely look forward to seeing that.
@mohitsud we’ll run it theu smog and post a copy, I’m sure it would pass this time around, plugs have been changed since and been driven a bit.
The CarFax says it failed the Emissions Test. Has anything changed that would confirm this could pass the California SMOG test?
