This 1981 BMW 320i was purchased new by the current owner from the renowned Vasek Polak dealership in Hermosa Beach, California. Finished in Polaris Metallic over a black interior, it comes equipped with a fuel-injected 1.8-liter M10 inline-four engine, a 5-speed manual transmission, an optional air-conditioning system, an original Blaupunkt radio, a sunroof, fog lights, and 13” turbine-style wheels. Having relocated with its lifelong owner to Florida, this classic BMW 3-Series is now being offered for auction on their behalf, accompanied by a collection of original documentation and accessories.
This E21 came factory-finished in Polaris Metallic (060), and the paint is said to be entirely original and in very good overall condition. Details include black pinstripes, quad headlamps, polished bumpers, a front lip spoiler, front fog lights, black side mirrors, a sunroof, pop-out rear quarter windows, and 13” turbine-style wheels with a matching full-size spare in the trunk. The seller indicates that the Toyo tires were produced in 2005 and are due for replacement. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin features black leatherette front bucket seats with a matching rear bench seat, dashboard, and door panels. Accessories include a black four-spoke steering wheel, crank windows, a rear-window defroster, an optional air conditioning system, and an original Blaupunkt radio. The interior is said to be very well preserved, with all gauges and accessories functioning properly.
Equipped with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, the 1.8-liter M10 inline-four engine was factory-rated at 124 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transmission, and stopping is handled by power-assisted brakes with front discs and rear drums. A service was recently performed, including new clutch master and slave cylinders, brake cylinders, spark plugs, an oil change, and a coolant and brake system flush.
This sale will include a Vasek Polak BMW document holder, the original owner’s manuals and warranty service booklet, a toolkit, a spare wheel, a radio delete plate, a vintage front bra cover, a custom car cover, floor mats, the original bill of sale, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This 320i has just arrived here on consignment. The current and original owner purchased this new from Vasek Polak BMW in Hermosa Beach, California. The owner is up in age, and his son resides here in Sarasota, Florida. We have been asked to help him find a suitable buyer for the car. The car is now here in Sarasota, inside our facility. The owner was a successful California businessman in the oil industry. The car was purchased for $15,150 in 1981, according to the original Bill of Sale, which we are in possession of. A quick Google search to see what that $15,150 equal to today ~ $53,000. Vasek Polak was the place to buy any German automobile in the 1980s. Vasek Polak actually is the first dealership in the US ever to sell Porsches. The original Blaupunkt radio is still in the car and sounds great. Amazingly, we found the factory radio delete plate in the glove compartment. Along with that, we found a treasure trove of goodies pertaining to this car’s history. We also have the original EPA and original BMW Limited Warranty stickers that were installed inside the window when the car sat in the showroom. The Owners Handbook and BMW Service booklet (both in perfect condition) were neatly placed in an original Vasek Polak BMW document holder. Along with this, the original salesman's business card. Inside the original BMW Service Booklet are the BMW inspection stickers (many are placed in the door as they should, you E21 aficionados know what I'm talking about), and official BMW ink dealer service stamps. We had our paint expert use his paint meter on the factory Polaris Metallic paint (factory color code 060). We are told that it is 100% factory original paint. The interior does not have that old-German-car odor. No ugly blemishes anywhere to report. The seats are still beautifully intact, and the foam is not blown out like so many E21s. To my amazement, there are no dash cracks. It’s been a long time since Ive seen an E21 without dash cracks. Out of the many E21s we have sold through our company, few have been equipped with factory air like this one. Some have had the Behr aftermarket air. The sunroof is fully operational, and the headliner of the sunroof doesn’t have that typical worn look. In the trunk, the factory original Heyco fold-down toolkit is all complete and looks like its never been used. The factory jack is in its proper location, and so is the spare tire. This car also has an aftermarket front nose cover called a bra in its day. The tags are still attached, and the storage bag still looks new. There is a custom car cover, a spare v-belt, and protective floor mats for front and rear carpets.”
