Customized and restored with incredible attention to detail, this 1980 Porsche 911SC has been completely transformed by the craftsmen at ROCS Motorsports of New Jersey. Stripped to bare metal and refinished in Aquamarine Blue, this Coupe received new body styling along with a custom black/houndstooth interior, upgraded suspension, and a refreshed flat-six engine featuring PMO carburetors, MSD electronic ignition, and stainless-steel exhaust. A one-of-a-kind creation, this ROCS 911SC is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.

During the restoration, the body of this 911 was stripped to bare metal and customized with hand-shaped front fenders and wheel arches to accommodate wider wheels. The rear bumper was also re-contoured to match the rear quarter panels while the hood, bumpers, trunk lid, and engine grill have been backdated with earlier 911 parts. The exterior was then painted Aquamarine Blue, a historic Porsche color offered on the 356A model during the late 1950s. Equipment includes a single stainless steel mirror, pop-out quarter windows, 911R-style taillights, Euro-style H4 headlights, and wider 15” Fuchs wheels with polished lips dressed in a set of Pirelli P6000 tires.

The custom interior features a pair of Recaro-style bucket seats trimmed in black leather with houndstooth fabric inserts. The cabin was modified to accommodate a short wheelbase dashboard which is wrapped in black leather with matching A and B pillars and RS-style door panels. Other notable features include a powder coated 911R roll bar, a Wevo shifter, custom backdated gauges, a full sound system, air conditioning, and rear seat delete, a white headliner, grey RS-style felt carpeting, and a 1980s MOMO Prototipo steering wheel with a rare 1970s horn button.

Power is derived from an air-cooled 3.0L flat-six engine which has been modified with PMO 40 carburetors, Turbo valve covers, MSD electronic high discharge ignition, and a stainless-steel dual exhaust. The rear wheels are driven by a 5-speed 915 manual transmission with a new sport clutch assembly and aluminum pressure plate. The seller reports that the engine has been completely resealed and serviced with a Carrera chain tensioner update and a valve adjustment. The suspension has been overhauled with RSR-style sway bars, poly-graphite bushings, adjustable spring plates, Turbo tie rods, Bilstein shocks and struts, and hand-fabricated strut tower reinforcements. The brakes have been serviced with new discs and pads, a new master cylinder, all new lines, and stainless-steel hoses. Other items include stainless steel heat exchangers, a new fuel tank with pump, lines, and seals, an amber engine shroud, a Bosch alternator, and a battery relocated into a “smugglers box” for optimal weight distribution.

This sale will include a clean title.

    @ClassicPorsche port for Apple/Android

  • ClassicPorsche (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    @kgtkgtkgt to the best of my knowledge it is 204 HP, car does not have AC and the radio is a retro style with a part for iPhone or android. I have actually never turned it on.

  • nwGTS (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    @kgtkgtkgt Google ROCS Chicago 911. There are dozens of articles about this car and the build. It’s a magnificent specimen.

  • kgtkgtkgt (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    What is the hp? Also, I don't see the AC, what are the details? Also the sound system?

  • andyawb (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    I have seen and driven this car, and it was stored in my Chicago shop before and after Checkeditout 2019. You can be confident that the quality is 100% there. It is an exquisite build, obviously a different aesthetic than Singer, more like an Emory Special, and one that I really have an affinity for. I have no affiliation with ROCS by the way, just admire his work.

    @ROCS Class act...

  • ROCS (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    Hello everyone, I normally don't jump in on these things as I firmly believe cars need to find their place organically...much the same way we like to build our cars, nothing is ever forced or force-fed. So I will chime in on this one because this car is dear to my heart, if you know it's history then you know this is the ROCS Chicago and the car that helped spur the Checkeditout Porsche gathering so many of you have come to enjoy. I will therefore state the following: I have no financial interest in this car's auction but because so many of you appear concerned about the engine, my name was mentioned and I received several messages about the car I felt obligated to make a comment being its Daddy and all :-)! I drove this car around this time last year, we helped coordinate its showing at the Bridge where it was proudly displayed on the green alongside a Singer and if you go back and on my Instagram you will see photos of it there....This car is gorgeous, it has been appreciated and loved...it shows...and I would jump in it and drive it across country without any hesitations. I see that the seller posted up compression and leak-down numbers, well done. So, if you like our cars, want one but would rather not wait a couple of years this is a perfect opportunity to snatch up a great car. Good luck to the seller and its eventual new custodian. I
    Rich Goncalves, ROCS

    I’ll post the pictures taken during both tests. Thanks very much for suggesting these tests

  • ClassicPorsche (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    @AtomicIndustry just got the car back from my local Porsche Specialist and the following is his text to me:-

    Just finishing up, really nice numbers, excellent engine. Compression: cylinder 1 165, cylinder 2 168, cylinder 3 165, cylinder 4 166, cylinder 5 161, cylinder 6 167. Leak down 1: 5%, 6: 6%, 2: 4%, 4:5%, 3: 4%, 5: 4%.

    @robmsales thank you very much for the kind comments, as a first time seller its been wonderful to get the input from this community. I checked with Rich at ROCS Auto and yes the OEM taillights can be reinstalled.

    Hi and thanks for selling this unbelievable and gorgeous Porsche on PCarMarket.
    I have one simple question about the rear tail lights- can those be removed and replaced
    with the OEM lens- just something I'm not liking that much and the rear driver-side light isn't installed all the well -you'll do well with this car -I'm talking cash!! GLWA Rob

  • AtomicIndustry (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    @ClassicPorsche I think it would be a good idea. This car is gorgeous, built by a known talent, etc… the only real question mark is the drivetrain… and we all know how expensive it’s gotten to rebuild these motors.

    @AtomicIndustry I haven’t done a compression test, but I can certainly try and get it into my local Porsche shop next week. I’m not a dealer and don’t have the knowledge to do myself.

  • AtomicIndustry (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    @ClassicPorsche I talked to the builder last night. They did not rebuild the motor, just resealed it. It had good compression numbers, so the owner didn't see a reason too. So, mileage on the motor is unknown. Have you guys done a compression test at all?

  • ClassicPorsche (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    @AtomicIndustry thanks very much, she really is a beautiful car. The engine was gone over during the build approx 6k miles ago

    @ClassicPorsche So you don’t know if the motor has ever been gone through? Gorgeous car man.

  • ClassicPorsche (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    Thanks for the question, I don’t know if the mileage is accurate given the cars age.

  • AtomicIndustry (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    Any idea how many miles are on the drivetrain? Maybe a compression/leak down test?

  • ClassicPorsche (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    @fastcs911 no air conditioning

  • fastcs911 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    The description indicates air conditioning but I don't see any air vents or controls. Maybe hard to see but I don't see a compressor.

    @ClassicPorsche was this question asked because the car is carbureted?

  • FinnytheJRT9 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    What is the deal with wondering if the can hold idle, is it because it is carbureted and not FI?

    @Billylane2021 I curious why would you ask that of all possible questions?

  • Billylane2021 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    Does this car have any issue holding idle?
