Up for auction is this 1980 911 SC. The rare Casablanca Beige Metallic paint, brown leather interior, and custom BBS wheels give this 911 a distinctive look that is sure to impress. This car was delivered new to Wilmington, California and has remained in the Golden State for most of its life. The car was eventually shipped to Washington State, at which point the current owner who resides in Atlanta, GA purchased it. This car is being offered in excellent turn-key condition.

The Casablanca Beige Metallic Paint is in fact all-original other than a noted respray on the hood and rear deck lid. The respray seemed to have caused minor cracking in the paint, leaving the hood and decklid with a few flaws. The paint as a whole is in above average condition and the car is sure to turn heads in its rare exterior color.

The brown leather interior is all-original and stated to be in great condition. Other than some noted wear on the driver’s seat and bolsters, this 911 has clearly been cared for. The owner notes that the car has a radio upgrade that is not original to the car from the factory.

Power comes from a 3.0L flat-six air-cooled engine that is paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle. This 911 had a recent motor and transmission service along with a new clutch, replacement of the rear main seal, and a brand new set of Sumitomo HTR Z3 tires all around.  This car is ready to hit the road and has been well maintained throughout its life.

The sale will include service stamps in the Porsche Maintenance Manual, documenting the service for the first few years, along with a number of detailed notes from 1994 - 2006. The notes from the 2nd owner consist of every trip this car has done, documenting the mileage and gas consumption. From 79,995 miles to 109,234 miles, every mile traveled is documented in the book.

Books and keys will also be included with the sale.

Chain tensioners? Pop-off Valves? Head studs? These are the big three for the SCs. Any idea if these have been addressed?

@mulsanne79 Your welcome. This only lasted till 82’ and Porsche was one of the first manufacturers to switch back, offering recalibration and retrofit dials for their cars produced during 1979-1982. But it should be documented if you look ar the first page of the service manual there’s a box with a speedometer replacement and it should be stamped at the time of replacement

@Gteamy There is a one area on the deck lid that has been patched up, but I don't think it had anything to do with an accident. If it did, there would be much bigger overall damage including the rear bumper. And there is not. Also, the patched up area does not line up with the chip in the fan housing.

@lochrie2 Great info. Did not know that. Thank you.

  • Gteamy (registered bidder) 5 years, 7 monthsago

Appears to be dent and evidence of filler/bodywork on deck lid. This, paired with cracked fan housing, makes me wonder if an accident has occurred.

@mulsanne79 In September of 1979, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) passed a bill which stated that all car, pickup truck and motorcycle speedometers were to display a maximum speed of 85 miles-per-hour. This federal regulation also required speedometers to have a special emphasis on the number 55

  • mulsanne79 (seller) 5 years, 7 monthsago

@lochrie2 There is no documentation anywhere for this presumed speedometer change. I will have a mechanic come by today to take the speedo out and look at the back of it.

  • lochrie2 5 years, 7 monthsago

Any documentation on when the speedometer was changed out to know the actual mileage? All cars sold in the US in 1980 had an 85MPH speedometer. If it was changed professionally it should be stamped in the service manual, have a sticker on the driver door and be marked on the swapped out speedo

Update 05/13: Upon a request, the car was today inspected by a local Porsche mechanic, and it has been updated with the latest externally oil fed tensioners.

    Have chain tensioners been upgraded?

@DaBigKahuna1969 Good afternoon. Carfax report is not available for pre-1981 vehicles. In other words, Carfax is only available for cars with 17 digit vin numbers. I will be happy to do the video of the car driving on Monday. I am currently away for the weekend. The AC is currently INOP. However, the compressor is there as are the rest of the pieces, with the exception of the belt. I will try to get a local mechanic to look at it Monday and see what it needs. This car made recently a trip all the way to Maryland with no issues. It's a great driver.

  • DaBigKahuna1969 (registered bidder) 5 years, 7 monthsago

Do you have a CarFax that you can share? If possible, please post a video of the car moving from the inside, rowing up and down through the gears etc. Does the A/C work well? Would you expect this car to easily make a drive to Houston, TX? Thx.
