Produced exclusively for the North American market, the 1980 Porsche 911SC Weissach Edition was produced in a limited run of 468 units honoring Porsche’s motorsport center in Weissach, Germany. Each came factory-equipped with special paint colors, a Doric Grey leather interior, front and rear spoilers, and sport shock absorbers. This example is finished in Black Metallic and features an optional limited-slip differential, air conditioning, electric sunroof, and front fog lights. Initially delivered through Holbert’s Porsche in Pennsylvania, the car was reportedly owned by one family until the selling dealer’s acquisition, who carried out a comprehensive refurbishment between 2023 and 2025. Showing fewer than 80k miles on the odometer, this rare Weissach Edition Coupe is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.
This 911SC is finished in Black Metallic, one of two unique color choices available for the Weissach Edition. Designated by option code M439, the Weissach edition also includes a flexible spoiler lip attached to the front air dam as well as a Whale Tail rear spoiler and Platinum Metallic painted 15” Fuchs wheels. The hood was refinished as part of the restoration. Slight signs of road wear are noted, and detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the driver is greeted with special Doric Gray leather upholstery, Sport Seats with red accent piping, red carpets, and a black headliner. This example came factory optioned with an electric sunroof, cruise control, air conditioning, an alarm system, and a stereo with a manually operated antenna. The leather surfaces were redone and the front trunk carpet was replaced as part of the refurbishment.
An air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 180 HP and 175 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual gearbox and optional limited-slip differential. As part of the refurbishment, service included replacing the spark plugs, filters, belts, oil and fluids, fuel pump relay, and oil tubes and seals. The air conditioning system, ignition timing, shifter bushings, heater fan motor, and hoses were also serviced. Additional items addressed include a new battery, replacement alternator and belts, cleaned fuel injectors, and a four-wheel alignment to European specifications including adjustments to achieve zero bump steer.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and a spare tire.
The seller would like you to know: “In 1980, a true limited-edition model 911SC was produced for the American market. The ‘Weissach’ edition was a standard SC with special paint. It was built in 1980 to honor the Porsche Motorsport team working in Weissach, Germany. 468 units were made, half painted Metallic Black, and the other half in Platinum Metallic. The interiors were wrapped in Doric Grey leather with burgundy piping. Additional body and mechanical specs included a flexible lip on the front air dam, whale tail rear spoiler, Bilstein dampers, and Fuchs wheels. The Weissach Edition 911 also included other features that were comparable to the Sport Group package. The Special 15” Fuchs wheels were painted Platinum Metallic on all Weissach models. This is a very original 1-owner car that has been fully refurbished and works and drives perfectly.”

@Scheinrs the chain tensioner’s are original.
@seller, further, any evidence of Pop-off Valve installed to airbox and/or chain-tensioner upgrade from original mechanical to the later hydraulic?
Bid in the amount of $51,250
@Scheinrs there is absolutely no indication of oil consumption. We have this parked on carpet in our showroom with no drops of any fluids at all.
@seller, any comments on oil usage and/or after-drive droplets?
Good morning and welcome to the last 6 hours of the Auction. Good luck to all!
@nobrakes Oh, sorry. I was stuck on platinum
@stevefixer my car is one of the 200 or so black ones.
@nobrakes your Kunstharzlack tag in the driver's door jam should read 655-9-3 which is LM8U . Platinum Metallic.
@nobrakes I believe the paint code is LM84
@stevefixer do you know the color code for the platinum metallic? I have been restoring a weissach and have finished the mechanical refresh and now focusing on the interior. its currently rolling on a set of 16" Etoiles and I need to send the original 15" off for refinishing.
@analogmike ya I meant all the wheel centers were painted platinum metallic whether the car was black or platinum metallic "gold" .. mine looks gold to me too ; ) and the Doric grey interior looks tan , but the red carpet sure looks red ! ha

@simon968 Thank you for your bid and good luck!
@analogmike the wheels were always the same color as the car with a clear anodized lip. Not sure of center cap color. When we had the wheels refinished, we used the paint code for the car to paint wheels. We did choose to polish (little bling) the lip as apposed to a dull finish of anodizing. Gold would def be a nice contrast to the car’s color but didn’t want to take the chance of not liking it.
Hi,
I guess they called the wheel color platinum metallic, but it looks gold to me.
Can't seem to post links or images in this comment but Google image "911Sc weissach wheels" and most look gold.
Love these cars!
@EMG01 too late ! ...I just retired from 35 years in the Porsche and Euro car biz. 25 years with my own shop and dealers license. I kept my Weissach and a '79 hot rod 911sc. I cant help myself from commenting when a limited number car like this comes up. I am a sucker for the special ones.
@analogmike all the Weissachs had the same color (platinum metallic ) painted wheel centers whether they were Back or Platinum Silver. and yes, 15x7 & 8's
Bid in the amount of $49,750
@stevefixer Many Weissach SCs had gold painted wheels, maybe depending on the paint color. I have a spare set of these, they were 7x15 and 8x15.
Bid in the amount of $49,500
@stevefixer we may need to put you on the payroll with all the great fun Factoids your give us. :)
also it still retains its 85mph speedo ! Most have been changed to 150 at some point so they are TMU unless the dealer did the swap and recorded the previous miles in the service book and on file . Very strong case for original miles. Along with one family owned, nice features for sure.
another factoid'ish .... rear seatbelts were an option ? That is an odd one. I have seen them both ways, black bolts in the mounting holes or belts. Mine has belts. .
Good morning everyone and have a great day.
@Froggy618 Thank you for the bid and good luck!

Paint meter readings have been added to the gallery. Happy Bidding!!
@ronirb yes the start video was a cold start. We just submitted another one to be posted. Foot was slightly on the throttle when starting, more out of habit as apposed to necessity. The leather on the dash was in need of attention so we chose to have it completely restored.

Hello, was the start video a cold start? Was he putting his foot on the gas pedal?
Why was the dash got all this work done?
Thank you

@stephenolitsky thank you for the questions. We had the hood painted in preparation for the sale and based on Paint Meter readings (not appearance) it is apparent the left front fender was painted. The color match and finish is spot on. We will be posting meter readings shortly.
On one of the invoices dated 10/12/2020 on the second page is a list of compression numbers that were taken 2k miles ago with the other services done. We do not have record of the clutch being done but I can assure you and other bidders that it is buttery smooth and grabs about midway of its stroke. We do have service records dating back to 2013 and do not see anything about engine removal or any motor out work being done. The engine on this car is bone dry with zero signs of any leaks. The original well known selling dealer “Holberts Porsche” unfortunately has changed hands a few times, now Porsche Warrington unfortunately does not have any records of services prior to 2013.
@stevefixer keep the fun facts coming. We were able to find a screen shot of the registry for these special cars. Last entry in 2022 and only showing 158 known survivors. Someone will be buying a limited piece of history and not just a car. :)
another factoid, the tail on Weissach editions are from the only other US model that had it , the '75 Carrera (395 made) . Same part number. So these tails are rare as well. In my opinion the best looking tail of all. They follow the lines of an original decklid because Porsche grafted the fiberglass tail onto a stock steel decklid. They both use the same grill so they are in perfect scale to the G-body's lines.
@stevefixer thank you for the information. Yes the wheels have been refinished and agree with you on how great they look.
Great car. So many questions… 1) paint orig other than hood? 2) paint meter readings? 3) orig clutch? 4) has engine been out? 5) any resealing? 6) any compression and leak down readings?
the wheel lips on this car have been polished as well. not stock but they look great.
I think all the Weissach editions whether platinum silver or black had platinum silver painted wheel centers. These must have been refinished ?
I have one in Platinum metallic and I believe the production number is 408 total made for the USA market. Mine is close to the end of the run. The VIN numbers were not in sequence from Porsche so ? There was an owner running the "survivor" registry but it has been let go. While it was up I remember only about half were accounted for. That would make them even rarer. I love the interior, no mistaking it for a Weissach edition.
Beautiful and rare car. Hard to find in today’s market. GLWTA!
Hello Pcar patrons, and welcome to our auction! We are pleased to be able to represent this iconic special edition Porsche. Good luck and happy bidding.
