This 1980 Porsche 911SC was customized by the current owner circa 2003 with an M491 Turbo-look conversion using authentic Porsche parts. Refinished in Seal Grey Metallic over a Carrera-sourced Grey-Green leather interior, it features an air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine, a 5-speed manual transaxle, removable Targa top, a Turbo-style front spoiler, a Carrera rear spoiler, a four-spoke leather steering wheel, a Blaupunkt sound system, and 17” Cup-style wheels. Showing approximately 88k miles on the odometer, this custom Turbo-look 911SC Targa is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of Indiana.

Under current ownership, the car was modified with welded rear fender flares and an original 930 Turbo front spoiler, front fenders, rockers, bumpers, and a 911 Carrera rear spoiler. The exterior was stripped and refinished in the 996-generation color of Seal Grey Metallic. The seller adds that the body and paintwork were carried out by a highly reputable restorationist, and all removable parts were primed and painted separately. Equipment includes a removable black vinyl-covered roof panel, a black Targa roll hoop, a heated glass dome rear window, headlamp washers, front fog lights, and 17” Cup-style wheels. Noted imperfections include a small stone chip on the forward hood, small chips on the rockers near the rear wheels, some signs of road-going wear on the lower rear fender flares, and 2004 production date codes on the tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

A Grey-Green leather interior was sourced from a late-1980s Carrera and installed along with new black carpeting by the current owner. Accessories include a four-spoke leather steering wheel, power seats, power windows, air conditioning, a heater, carbon fiber door sill guards, analog VDO gauges, and a Blaupunkt stereo paired with new Blaupunkt speakers. The seller indicates the driver’s power seat has not been wired up, the air conditioning doesn’t blow cold, the driver’s side heater cable has come loose at the heater box, and the passenger window switch is installed upside down. The side windows are also recommended for adjustment.

The air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine was factory-rated at 180 HP and 174 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle, and stopping is handled by ventilated disc brakes. The seller indicates routine maintenance has been observed throughout their ownership, and the engine control unit has been rebuilt.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a tire inflator, a car cover, a front bra, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thanks for viewing my car. I'm a Porsche enthusiast and have been since my college days. I did not buy this car to flip; I have owned it since 2003 and just wanted to make it look the way I wanted. I just don't drive it much anymore, and it deserves to be in a home where someone can enjoy it often. I have owned many Porsches over the past 40 years: a 1972 914, a 1966 912, a 1983 928, and I currently own this beautiful 911 and a fully restored 914 modified with a 3.2l Porsche Carrera six engine.”

@pjzabo power mechanism works fine on both doors. there are minor adjustments you can make to tilt in/tilt out, tilt up, tilt down to get them in the perfect position. They were close enough for me as I never drove it in the rain and 99% of the time the targa top comes off. I just never did it.
what does "windows need to be adjusted" mean? they don't fit properly in the door frame? the power mechanism isn't working properly or the window does not raise fully, or lower fully? Sorry but I am not clear on what that means

@razyus77 Never touched the AC. It is hooked up and engine is driving the compressor. I’m just guessing old seals leaking. So it would need that to be found, oil changed in the ac unit, charged with modern refrigerant .
Do you know what would take to fix the AC ?

@Hadz24 the windows need adjusted, never did when back from body shop as I always have top off. A corvette restoration shop did all the work and didn’t know how to adjust them. I did replace all the window (windshield, rear window, door, targa bar seals. Never rebuilt the targa top (on my to do list). So yes it would leak.
Driver side seat works fine, since they are seats from an 86-87, drivers side was electric and the original seats were not. Just needs wiring harness from seat to fuse box. I pushed whites in and hooked up to battery to adjust. I’m the only one that drives it so didn’t was low on my to do list.
No tranny oil leaks.
Beautiful targa! I just have a few questions. Does the targa top leak at all? In a few pics it looks like it doesn't sit flush both in front and back. Is there any issues with the electronics in the driver seat, or is it just simply not connected for whatever reason? Finally, are there any oil or tranny leaks? Thanks!
All…I also have a full set of factory shop manuals.

Thanks for the additional info, very helpful!
Update for all. I pulled the info out of the owners manual vinyl sleeve. It contains:
1. Owners manual
2. Warranty & maintenance book
3. 6-year Porsche anti-corrosion warranty booklet
4. Blaupunkt manual (Honolulu cd50, probably the 2nd radio in it)
5. The Bridgestone tire limited warranty booklet from when I bought the tires on it
Also, the 1st owners name and the dealership it was purchased from (Ed Mathieu Imports in Chicago) on 9-17-1980. It has the 1000mi warranty service stamps only.
I also have the oil change/plug change card kept by the 2nd owner. Looks like he bought it in 1994 when it had 57, 834 miles and he changed the oil approximately every 2000-3000 miles (has mileage and dates) up until he sold it to me in 2003 (when it had 79,129 miles). I changed it every 2 years since I didn’t put much mileage on it on an annual basis (maybe avg 200mi a year except for a few times I drove it to Milwaukee and Indianapolis). I always used Mobil 1 synthetic.

@pjzabo personally I only like tails on wide bodies. I went for that style as it’s consistent with non-turbo wide bodies.
The body shop that did the work was a nationally known corvette restoration shop. Was called Mann’s. He retired about a decade ago and sold it. I do have photo’s I took almost every week of the process and only posted a few.
Not many records came from previous owner but he just retired from being a commercial pilot when I bought it. I also have full compliment of pics when I bought it. I have all the purchase records (well probably most) of the parts I bought for the conversion.
Don’t have documentation of miles (I’ll look in ownership manual that came with car)
Yes I’m sure on idle. The video was a cold start and not warmed up. I had the ecu rebuilt by Porsche specialty shop in Milwaukee because it did idle high even when warm. After it’s warm idle does drop.
Nice looking targa! While I’m generally not a fan of tails on a targa, I think a tea tray with the wide body would even be better but love it. A few questions: what shop did the body work? What records do you have from new and previous owners? Is the mileage well documented? Are you sure the high idle issue was addressed? In your start up video the car is idling very high even when you shut it down. Thanks and good luck.
@bpark1989 lol…yes, a lot more pictures there at the end!
Thank you! I didn't know the gallery went down that far lol my apologies.
@bpark1989 original color was brown with brown interior. Ther are pictures of the car in ad from when I bought it in the brown/brown original colors.
No accidents.
Have all the body shop pics from beginning to end. No rust on car, no accident damage uncovered. Wing, front valence, flares, front fenders, rockers, rear bumper turbo ends were new and only primed when I got them.
Hi, what is the original color underneath the seal grey? Is there any rust anywhere? Has it been in any accidents or any damage from not-on-the-road accidents? Thank you!

@haneyje928 meant 911 not 912
@Silentsteve thanks! Time for someone else to enjoy them. 912 engine is stock and on change then the 914-6 conversion is a Steve Wong performance chip.
Love both of your listings, I also love modified Porsches! Both of yours are tastefully well done. These wheels really knocked her out of the park, timing is everything not a bidder but just want to congratulate you of a pair of wonderful Porsches. Have you ever modify the engine as well and I would be tearful to let these go few worthy replacements. Best with auctions!

@CARchitects the only engine work I have done was normal maintenance. It runs well and strong. Had the ecm rebuilt (wouldn’t idle down and was due to some known ecu gremlins. That fixed it. There is also a large oil hose that connects in the back at the top of the engine block…had that replaced.
Never touched the AC. It is hooked up. I’m just guessing old seals leaking. So it would need that to be found, oil changed in the ac unit, recharged.
Bid in the amount of $19,000
wow. that is a lot of love, time and money put into this car. has there been any engine, gearbox, clutch, etc work done on the car? any idea what the AC needs to get it working?
Thanks all for bidding. I’m here to answer any questions you may have.
