Introduced in 1978, the Porsche 911SC replaced both the 911 and Carrera models, featuring a 3.0-liter flat-six engine derived from the 1975 911 Carrera 3.0. This 1980 911SC Targa, finished in the rare shade of Casablanca Beige Metallic over brown leather upholstery, offers a removable roof panel for joyous open-top driving. The original owner reportedly purchased the car from R.S. Taylor Classic Motors in Vallejo, California, and kept the car for 42 years before passing it on to a close friend. Benefitting from recent servicing and dry-ice cleaning, this lifelong California car is now being offered for auction by its seller with approximately 13k miles showing on the odometer.

Finished in Casablanca Beige Metallic (463) with a removable black roof panel, this 911SC features an overhead Targa bar framing the heated wraparound rear glass window. The equipment also includes rectangular front fog lamps, dual side mirrors, and rear bumperettes. It rides on 16” Fuchs wheels wrapped in Pirelli PZero Rosso tires. Since 2022, a professional paint correction, polish, and ceramic coating have been performed. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with brown leather upholstery, complete with a color-coordinated dashboard, center console, door panels, rear seats, and carpeting. The driver is supplied with a black leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, climate controls, power windows, and a dealer-installed Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette stereo with an electric antenna. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order.

An air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 180 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle. The seller reports that since 2019, and within the last 1,000 miles, the vehicle has received updates including a timing chain tensioner kit, a new gas tank and sending unit, a rebuilt fuel distributor and warm-up regulator, new injectors, brake components, and an oil and filter service, with the total cost amounting to $12,288. More recent work included replacing the fuel pump and injectors again, draining and cleaning the fuel tank, installing a new fuel filter, accumulator, steering wheel hub bushing, and Bosch battery, as well as performing dry ice cleaning of the underside, engine compartment, and wheel wells.

This sale will include a clean title, the owner’s manuals stored within a vinyl pouch, the toolkit stored in a Porsche plastic bag, two keys, a vintage Porsche leather key fob, the original maintenance booklet with stamps, original Porsche floor mats (4), original touch-up paint tube, two Targa top keys, a front license plate bracket, a spare tire bag with plastic gloves, space saver tire (never used), jack and some service records.

The seller would like you to know: “The original owner was a dedicated Porsche enthusiast who rarely drove the car, reserving it for sunny weekend drives to avoid any potential damage. He and his wife used the 911 to explore the scenic routes of Napa Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area, adding just 5,000 miles in the first year and only an additional 7,000 miles between 1981 and 1997. As his family grew and his dental practice expanded, the car was carefully stored in a garage for the next 22 years. In 2019, when the dentist needed to move the 911 to their new home, he took the opportunity to rejuvenate his beloved car by having it flatbed-towed to a local independent Porsche specialist, where it underwent extensive servicing to restore it to perfect running condition. Less than 1,000 miles ago, the following work was performed: a timing chain tensioner update kit was installed, the gas tank and sending unit were replaced, the fuel distributor and warm-up regulator were rebuilt, and new injectors, boots, a fuel pump, brake lines, brake master cylinder, front and rear brake rotors and pads, and Pirelli Pzero Rosso tires were fitted. Additionally, an oil service and air filter replacement were completed, and the flywheel was removed, resurfaced, and resealed, with a total service bill of $12,288. Unfortunately, by the time the car was fully sorted and ready to drive, the pandemic hit, and it sat unused once again. By 2022, the dentist reluctantly decided to sell the cherished Targa to a family friend in Orange County, who had long expressed interest in the car. The new owner, wishing to preserve its one-owner status, never registered the car and added less than 1,000 miles during his brief ownership. He also had the following work done at his local Porsche repair facility: replacing the fuel pump, installing new fuel injectors and O-rings, draining and cleaning the fuel tank, replacing the fuel filter and accumulator, addressing the steering wheel hub bushing, replacing the horns, installing a new Bosch battery, dry ice cleaning the underside, engine compartment, and wheel wells, and completing a full paint correction, polish, and ceramic coating.”

@shamansky thanks for your comments and yes it is the finest 1980 targa on the planet for sure. Just for clarity the car was dry iced ONLY to clean any grime (very little) that was present. None of the original cosmoline was removed.

This has to be the finest early Targa on the planet. Will ever understand dry ice on a pristine time capsule such as this but it's clearly worth way more than the current bid. Good luck to the seller on this incredible machine.

Wish this was next year…I have the 928 Casablanca beige mate to this 911. I have to finish restoration on the 928 before getting another project.

Ron993G50- yes it’s hard to capture the true color in images but it tends more towards gold than beige. No one really knows where Casablanca Beige was named the color but it’s def more gold than beige. BTW it’s a rarely seen color on any year Porsche.

  • Ron993G50 (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@momotime Can you tell me if the color tends to look gold or more beige in real life.
It’s hard to tell on photos.

Ron993G50-thanks for your kind remarks and yes it is a beautiful example of a 44 year old Porsche. It is extremely difficult to find original examples such as this in the condition that we find here. If anyone would ever wanted to restore a 1980 SC targa they should inspect this car to make sure it is restored as it was when built. As mentioned below I have been fortunate to own many Porsches and the quality and originality of this car is simply amazing. Anyone who loves originality and perfection will love owning this example. Let me know if there are any questions about the car.

  • Ron993G50 (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

This a beautiful example of what it was like when it was new! Total time capsule
Was wondering if the exterior color looks more gold or more beige? Hard to tell on photos

550bryan. yes you are 100% correct Finding any 44 year old car in showroom condition is near impossible and especially a SC Targa Porsche. Restored cars are not ever the equal to a 100% original show condition one. Thanks for your comment.

As the saying goes, "where are you going to find another 13K beige metallic targa?"

  • momotime (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

hello to all viewing this SC Targa. I have owned many 80's Porsche but I have never seen one in the condition that this car is in. A meticulous owner who cherished the car for over forty years is extremely rare and he took care of this car like it was one of his children. Every component on the car is like new and it would win any preservation class concours in the world. Whoever buys this car is going to be thrilled. It needs nothing because it has always been completely maintained and loved since new. A fastidious Dentist who only wanted the car as new Just saw the bid from @kemal. He knows what he likes and he must know a fantastic car when he sees one. Good luck to all the bidders and I am here to answer any questions. Car is located in my facility in Newport Beach if anyone wants to come and see this beauty.
