Available for auction is this 1979 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet finished in Alpine White over a white vinyl interior. Undoubtedly one of the most universally recognizable vehicles on the road, this 1979 Volkswagen Beetle was purchased by the current owner in 2019 from the long-term second owner of over 20 years. It has since been treated to over $31k worth of refurbishment in the last two years including a full glass out respray, transmission rebuild, a new clutch, a new convertible top, and much more. This beautifully presented 1979 example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of North Carolina.
This Beetle was the subject of a recent glass-out respray in Alpine White as well as the installation of a new convertible soft top. A rust inhibitor was applied during the respray, and all new rubber seals were installed throughout the car along with a new windshield. Additionally, new running boards were added as well as modern LED headlights. Detailed images are provided in the gallery. This Beetle rides on a set of refinished 15″ ventilated steel wheels dressed in Widetrack Radial tires.
Inside, the white vinyl interior is said to have been nicely preserved throughout the years and features woodgrain dash trim, adjustable front bucket seats, and an AM/FM Blaupunkt radio with a cassette player. The seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be functioning properly. A label inside the driver's door jamb notes the odometer to have been repaired or replaced in 1981 at 12,081 miles and reset to 0.
Power comes from an air-cooled 1600cc flat-four engine producing up to 48 HP stock. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual transmission. During the recent refurbishment, a host of mechanical services were completed including a rebuild of the transmission, installation of a new clutch, a new rear main seal, new shift rod bushings, new brake lines, a fuel system flush, new hoses, and the refurbishment of several electrical components. Corresponding invoices for the refurbishment are said to be available.
This sale will include an owner's manual, some service records, and a clean title. Sorry for being so late to the game kicking off the intro comments. Anyway, this car is truly spectacular and comes from a collection of about 20 cars whose owner likes to return all his cars to the way they left the factory, including having every instrument, light, switch etc. working.
