Factory finished in Silver Metallic over Cork leather, this 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo Coupe was acquired by the current owner in 2003 from the collection of Soundgarden’s lead vocalist Chris Cornell. The car changed hands in 2005 and was later reacquired by the current owner after it appeared for sale in 2007. As a Porsche brand ambassador who worked in Porsche sales, the owner meticulously looked after the car including the completion of a top-end engine rebuild and reseal as well as a thorough recent service. This 930 shows approximately 79k miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and extensive service records.
This 930 Turbo comes finished in Silver Metallic (Z2Z2) and features 16” Fuchs wheels with custom color-matched centers, polished lips, crested center caps, and new Bridgestone. Other equipment includes black rear stone guard decals, a rubber front air dam, front fog lights, headlamps washers, a rear window wiper, and Tea Tray rear spoiler. The car is said to have been completely refinished in its original color by Queen City Automotive over 25 years ago and is described to remain in excellent overall condition showing only a few minor nicks to the exterior. The seller adds the car has always been kept indoors and driven approximately 6k miles under current ownership, detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is upholstered in Cork (88) leather with matching carpets and Turbo-logo floor mats. Porsche crests have been added to the steering wheel and interior door handles, the shift knob has been replaced, and the seats have been refurbished with new stuffing. The air-conditioning has been converted to R134a, although the system does not blow cold at this time and likely requires a recharge. All other accessories are said to be working properly.
Producing up to 265 HP and 291 lb.-ft of torque, the 3.3-liter turbocharged flat-six engine is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox and factory optional limited-slip differential. A top-end engine rebuild and reseal were completed by Barrier Motors of Bellevue Washington in 2008 at 72k miles which included ARP rod bolts, shot-peened rods, new fuel injectors, and a five-angle valve grind. An upgraded GHL stainless-steel exhaust was also fitted along with a TiAL wastegate. Recent service completed in preparation for sale totaled nearly $5k with an oil and filter change, brake fluid flush, new fuel pumps, fuel filter, pump relays, steering column bushing, valve cover gaskets, a battery, and four new tires as well as leak down and compression tests. Corresponding invoices are provided for reference in the gallery.
This sale will include extensive documentation, owner's manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

@max We have ownership history back to 1996, but prior to that we do not.
Owner history past 26 years
It is the original drive train.
No paperwork but was repainted by the owner of Queen City Autobody, one of the best in the business, is a factory authorized repair for Porsche, Aston Martin, Lotus, He can verify that he painted the car.
Are you able to clarify any ownership history prior to 2003? How long was held by different owners and where/etc.?
Would you also confirm this is the original drivetrain on the car (engine/transmission)?
Any details available on the repaint and bodywork that may have been done?
@Nj993c2 The original service records are intact and in plastic sleeves in 3-ring binder.
Are the service records redacted in real life or just for the pictures? Would be a darn shame and costly mistake if the amazing late Chris’ provenance has been whited out universally!
@tckurth yes you should add this to your collection, or investment portfolio as these early 930’s keep going up. As the last of the true 930’s (Porsche stopped importing them end of ‘79) when they were known as the “Widow Maker” I recall in 1986 when Porsche brought back the 911 Turbo- a friend of mine took delivery of his, shooting up and down Burien freeway to Seattle and back at 155 mph - just fantastic that Porsche brought them back. Finding a ‘79 in this kind of condition is something else to be amazed over. Took a few years before I was able to own my own Porsche. But I’ll never forget that raw experience which few automobiles offer, even today with much more HP.

This car represents a perfect example of an early Porsche Turbo. New owner will have a time capsule to be proud of and enjoy! Wish I were in the market to add this car to my car collection.
Love this color combination! That interior! What could be better? An original 930 Turbo from the home of Grunge rock and owned by the legend himself...! I bought a 964 from the seller and I'm always amazed at the level of care and attention to detail he has for his cars. I might have to find room in my garage for another piece of history! ??

in 1979 Porsche built 806 930 coupes for the USA market.
Chassis numbers Vin:.0011 to Vin: .0816 - Porsche offered 32 different colors in '79.
very few in Silver, even less with Cork leather interior. in the past 43 many have been lost to accidents, weather, fires, floods. There are less remaining every year. And few original cars in this well kept condition with original leather - The still supple leather with a natural patina shows just how well preserved this Porsche is.
This seller's knowledge of, and appreciation of, all things air-cooled Porsche are deep. He's a go-to expert on the brand by a number of local owners and collectors. He's a great dude to have on a drive or at your local C&C. ...and he actually drives his cars (then cleans them with the precision of a surgery ward!) I've bought one from him, and he's sold one for me, and his attention to detail is a big reason why I turn to him before I make any 911 purchase decisions. I've seen this car in the flesh and it's better than advertised...if you have the $ and space, and you're looking for an early, pristine 930, this is a no-regrets option.

I know the owner of this Porsche and I can vouch for him being straight up and meticulous about his cars. In fact, I've bought several cars from him and have never been disappointed. Good luck to the winning bidder - you will own a special car.
@ianbsears Thanks for your interest and questions. The Porsche had been stored in a climate controlled garage for an extended period and after the first leak down there where two valves where fuel had settled on the valve seats and gummed up the vale seat . So it was recommended that k44 fuel cleaner be added to a fresh tank of gas and run through the car, followed by XP3 fuel treatment, and after a re-test it immediately improved the results of those two cylinders. Technician wrote improved numbers. The 930 had been driven very little post the rebuild and reseal, so there was no concern about failure, simply needed to be driven. the current tank has the XP3 fuel treatment in it now. This is my recounting from conversations with the owner -
As per Chris Cornell ownership documents beyond the Bill of Sale, the short answer is notarized court documents one being a Transfer Statement, Affidavit of Repossession and Statement of Fact with Cornell's signature. And US Bankruptcy Court docs where Cornell was awarded this car and other cars back when a small boutique Auto dealer where he stored cars was out of compliance with the DMV, was closed, and went BK. And property was seized, including this 930. The current owner spent time there at the shop, met Chris and when the opportunity to purchase the 930 from him came about, he jumped on it. That was in May 2003. - I hope that answers your concerns.
@seller
Do you have any additional information regarding the leak down test on image 321 and 322?
Also, what are the "additional documents" you have showing Chris Cornell's ownership beside the bill of sale?
Thank you

@rcekstrom thank for your question, We have a signed Bill of Sale, among other legal documents to show his ownership.
What form of proof comes with the car that it was owned by Chris Cornell?
@delanodp Spoke to owner and confirmed it has the stock turbo and stock inter-cooler, prior it did have an upgraded K27 turbo and B&B inter-cooler for a short period of time and decided to return it to stock condition.
@ParkPlaceLTD picture 287 describes the custom block off plate and larger new intercooler. Not a big deal but noted the stock ic is what’s on the car now.
@delanodp Thank you for your question. I looked through the invoices posted and image 286 references client supplied replacement inter-cooler, to my knowledge the inter-cooler is stock size. Image 308 mentions the Kuehl Serpentline Deck Lid Condenser. But I didn't see one mentioning larger or Non-Stock. I hope that helps.
Several of the repair orders mention a larger, non-stock intercooler. The one in the pics looks very stock to me. Can you explain?
Welcome to our auction here on Pcar for this exceptional classic. This Porsche was pampered for many years while in the care of the owner, and I’m looking forward to the next new owner appreciating it just as much. I will do my best to answer all questions you might have about this 930.
