Introduced in 1978, the Porsche 911SC (Super Carrera) replaced the 911S and was among Porsche’s first models designed for the international market. This 1979 Porsche 911SC Targa was ordered in Guards Red over black upholstery and originally delivered by Taurus Porsche Audi of Georgia on December 4, 1978. Acquired by the third and current owner in December 2002, this Targa is now offered for auction on dealer consignment out of Georgia with approximately 41k miles on the odometer.

This 911SC is finished in Guards Red with a removable black roof panel and a matching Targa bar. Exterior features include rectangular front fog lights, painted headlight trim, a rear whale tail spoiler, rear bumperettes, and 16″ Fuchs wheels. The front tires are dated 2005, while the rear tires, marked 2014, were installed on December 14, 2015, at 38,385 miles. The seller notes patina on the painted surfaces, though the car is said to present extremely well. The trim and black components are reported to be in very good condition and have been treated in preparation for sale. Minor rock chips and cracks in two side marker lenses are also noted. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin presents black leatherette upholstery, matching carpets, and a matching leather three-spoke steering wheel. Equipment includes power windows, air conditioning, and a rear window defroster. The seller adds that the seats were professionally re-dyed in preparation for the listing, although the sun visor interiors have deteriorated. A Kenwood radio was installed under prior ownership. Minor wear commensurate with age is noted, and all gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in working order.

An air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine sends as much as 180 HP and 175 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission. The seller states that the most recent major service performed by Auto Atlanta on 1/31/2024 included the following:

  • Valve adjustment
  • Oil change service
  • Distributor cap, rotor and spark plugs replacement
  • New Battery
  • New Belt
  • New Trunk/Deck Lid Latch
  • Drain plate cleaning and paint touch up

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a host of documentation dating back to 1989.

The seller would like you to know: “This car has been properly enjoyed by its loving family. It watched the owner's children grow up in it, learn to drive manual transmission and learn to love the Porsche brand because of it. It was always stored indoors during its ownerships and while it remains a very well sorted driver's example, it shows extremely well. The next caretaker is sure to enjoy many miles of happy motoring.”

    Thanks @Brittonmcgregor!

No known leaks and it latches smoothly and without issue. No noted wind noise under any driving conditions either.

    @GLH thanks!

-A/C appears to work as well as can be for a 46 year old car. From my research A/C is not their most shining attribute, ha!
    -No overheating issues at all!
-No modifications and as noted in the listing here is what was done during the last major service:
    -Valve adjustment
    -Oil change service
-Distributor cap, rotor and spark plugs replacement
    -New Battery
    -New Belt
    -New Trunk/Deck Lid Latch
-Drain plate cleaning and paint touch up
-Yes every electronic tested works as expected.
    -No visible leaks.
-Car was sold new in Atlanta where it has lived its whole life...most often characterized as warm weather climate however right now as I watch the snow come down from my office window that would not appear to be the case, ha.
-Mouldings are in VERY good shape for their age and were recently treated to ensure they stayed as such.

Was planning to get the fresh oil change service done today however had to reschedule for tomorrow. Will get driving videos posted. Its an absolute blast to drive and gets tons of thumbs up and smiles wherever it goes.

    CheeRS,

    Chris

    Nice.. A/C working properly?
    Any overheating issues?
Any mechanical work/ upgrades done on motor?
Based on your presentation, all electronics are working properly?
How’s the NAV system?(just kidding as that would be between the ears of the driver)
Leaks? Oil fuel ww fluid shocks etc
Has the car ever been to cold climes? Starting , running?
    Rubber moldings?
    Thank you

@racecarrobbie thanks! We actually don’t have any history of a repaint. The paint meter readings seem to indicate all original paint. In my experience driving it both the air and heat worked well however given that we’re in the dead of winter have primarily used the heat when driving.

  • racecarrobbie (registered bidder) 3 days, 16 hoursago

Car looks great. Can you tell me about the paint history? When/why was it repainted? Also, I know the a/c on the SC was never that good, how is it with the conversion?
