This 1979 Porsche 911SC Targa came factory finished in rare Talbot Yellow over a premium Brown full leather interior and was optioned uniquely with air conditioning, a leather sport steering wheel, and Fuchs wheels along with deletion of exterior chrome trim, fog lamps, and a passenger-side mirror. The car remained under the long-term care of its original owner and is accompanied by extensive documentation including PCA concours judging sheets from over the years. It also features a refurbished and upgraded suspension, Griffith’s air-conditioning, a rebuilt 5-speed manual transaxle, and a rebuilt motor with an upgraded 3.2-liter displacement, PMO carburetors, Electromotive ignition, and more. With approximately 150k miles on the odometer, of which over 40k were added since the engine rebuild, this 911SC is now being offered for auction out of New York.
This 911SC came factory-finished in Tablot Yellow, a rare late 70s color that was the last true yellow offered by Porsche until 1987. It came factory-equipped with a single driver’s side mirror and without front headlamps. Other features include a removable black vinyl-covered roof panel, a black stainless-steel Targa bar, rear mud flaps, custom dual exhaust outlets, and 15” Fuchs alloy wheels. The car rides on Michelin Exalta tires from 2020 measuring 205/55 in front and 225/50 in the rear. The seller indicates the car has been completely refinished in its original color and the paint remains in excellent condition along with the glass, rubber seals, and Targa top which was reupholstered under prior ownership. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, this 911SC features Brown full leather upholstery with matching carpets and an aftermarket three-spoke MOMO steering wheel. The original leather steering wheel is included along with original floor mats and spare sun visors. Other equipment includes upgraded Griffith’s air conditioning, manual windows, and a factory Blaupunkt stereo. The speedometer has been rebuilt and the cabin is described to be in very good condition with all gauges and accessories working properly.
The air-cooled flat-six engine was reportedly upgraded to a 3.2-liter displacement including a Mahle big bore kit, uprated oil pump, cams, Turbo valve covers, oil-fed Carrera chain tensioners, PMO carburetors, Electromotive distributor-less ignition, and SSI heat exchangers. The rear wheels are driven through a rebuilt 5-speed manual transaxle. The car’s suspension has also been rebuilt with upgraded components including hollow torsion bars, Bilstein shocks, adjustable spring plates, Tarett adjustable sway bars, and bronze bushings. The seller notes the car saw some track use under the care of its long-term original owner and an extensive history of service is included in the sale.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, a battery charger, the original steering wheel and floor mats, spare sun visors, mirror covers, and a State of Maine vehicle registration.
The seller would like you to know: “This is more than likely one of the most documented and cleanest early 911SC Targas in existence. Its original owner was exceptionally meticulous as one would expect for a vehicle that was a Porsche Club of America Concours winner. Not only do we have documentation of the vehicle's purchase and service history, but we also have judging sheets and photographs of the car throughout the years. The owners proceeding him carried on that torch of keeping up their documentation of the repairs and extensive modifications to this vehicle, leaving no question as to what was done, and how it was tuned to run as well as it does. Between handwritten records and shop invoices, you will not find a more uniquely optioned and finely modified SC Targa. It is a car that will find itself at home on a spirited Sunday drive, show event, or track day equally with no issue. This is an all original cosmetic car except for new paint. It is a matching a numbers car with both engine and transmission. It looks as new and drives better than new because of the powerful upgrades done by a renown racing shop."

Hi Guys,Thank you for your bids. This is a very special car in excellent condition. You will not need to spend any additional money on it if you win it. The previous owner left a couple of very positive comments on the car. He traded it towards a 1972 911 coupe that had 27k miles on it and was possibly the best in USA. His car was not for sale until he saw that car. Bid with confidence. Elliot Cuker President

@Rungegator The transmission Shifts very well, The last record of clutch replacement was around the time of the transmission rebuild, it grabs fine with no slipping whatsoever. The shifter was rebuilt with OE Porsche parts in 2018. The pedal box has also been refurbished, so it all works as new.
The air conditioner has been significantly upgraded with a Griffith setup, including a modern rotary compressor and permanent magnet ac blower motor. It uses R134a and blows colder than the stock unit ever could.
the interior over is very solid, no hanging panels, no squeaks or rattles. A very pleasant place to be.
Bid in the amount of $27,500
@Dlerwin No evidence of smoking whatsoever in the car. the interior truly is a nice place to be.
In terms of the rebuilds: if you look at them invoices, one appears to be a top end rebuild, adding the pistons and cylinders at that time, the second was actually a full case open one. We cant comment on why it was done that way, but we can say the numbers matching motor runs flawlessly and has only needed service and tuning since then, over 40k miles since.
we have receipt of the last long term owner raising the car back from euro height and aligning it. you have plenty of adjustability in the setup to put it at the height youd desire.
It is definitely a blast to drive, and a real head turner in this color!
How is the gearbox and shifting? Worn synchros? Grinding? When was the clutch last done? A/C converted to R-134? Loose squeaks and rattles in the cabin?
A couple of questions:
Is there any evidence the car has been smoked in?
The receipts shown in the pictures indicate the motor had a second rebuild about a year after the first when it was initially converted to the 3.2. Can you comment as to why?
The car seems to sit very high in the back. Given it was set up to be used in DE events, this seems odd. The pictures make it look way higher than even the awful DOT ride height these cars came with.
Love the car and the color! I had a Grand Prix White 79 targa with a similar motor build. Super fun driver.
@WhereRu2 It was ordered from the factory this way with no passenger mirror or fog lamps. if you look at pic 73 you can see where the original owner starred which options he wanted. A passenger mirror was not one of them. Definitely unique.

Interested bidders for this unique SC should refer to David Whitlock's comments about this car in his Stuttgart Market Letter of several days ago. He stated that if he were in the market for an SC he would be bidding strongly on this car. The rare color of Talbot Yellow along with the brown leather interior is smoking hot!! Combine this with the mechanical upgrades that this car has and you have a hybrid sports car that is equally driveable as a GT car. It performs considerably better than when it came from the factory.
Bid in the amount of $15,000
Pardon my ignorance but is this SC a passenger door side mirror delete or just plain missing?
Bid in the amount of $8,431
Unfortunately, the last post regarding the dash was incorrect. It IS leather, as confirmed by the full leather interior description on the original window sticker, and the seam across the top. The dash seems to be in excellent original condition which is unusual for a car of this vintage. There is absolutely no shrinkage or separation as is common on these leather dashes. We have posted several additional photos of the dashtop, you can also see it in the original posted photos.

I did not refer to a leather dash in my question. I spent a few hours with the longtime owner you are referring to. I also had a long conversation with his mechanic. I passed on the car. Could you answer my other questions I sent you in a private email.
@jlsiegel there is yes.
@DonnieG we're not quite sure what you mean by dash 'lifting', as it is not a leather dash. The dash pad on it is not perfect, but it is the original part along with the rest of the 45 year old interior. we will have some additional pics up before the auction ends.

@cooperclassics can you take a better picture if the dash. As I remember it was lifting.
Thanks
Is there a reserve on this auction??
You are correct, this registration is current and transferrable in any state, if your state is a title state, you submit the maine registration and receive a title in your new registered state.. We are a licensed dealer there will be no issue with ownership transfer. let us know if you have any other questions.
Description says is that it is registered in Maine. It mentions nothing about the title rules in Maine, nor that the registration is transferable. But I appreciate your reply. I have a client looking at this car, and his state is strict about having a "title". After calling that states DMV they said as long as the registration is current ( and i'm assuming this one is?) there will be no problem getting the car registered and titled in the new state.
As mentioned in the description, the vehicle has a transferable registration from the state of maine, which does not require titles on vehicles 25 years old.
what is the title situation? nothing mentioned.
That photo was to show how good the paint is in all the hidden areas that may show wear. The car appears as if it was painted 8 months ago. There is not a dimple or a scratch in the paint. You are welcome to see for yourself.
What was the intention of the detail shown in slide 108? Is there a bit of rough paint at the seal in that area? (Hard to tell). Thanks.
Thx for details
Nice rumble!
Paint meter and windscreen gasket photos have been uploaded as well as a short start and walkaround video. vehicle was inspected in Massachusetts for years prior to sale. start and run video just submitted.

@jlsiegel Yes, the window and upper body seals are original and in very good condition. very indicative of a car that has been garaged and taken care of its entire life. Everything in the car works as it should, its lack of power accessories besides the basics definitely helps. The tires are date coded 2920 on all 4 corners with about 2k miles on them since being installed. The car just had a full fluid service including brake, transaxle, oil change only a couple hundred miles ago for the season. We have a couple of under engine shots in the gallery, there are no discernible oil leaks underneath at this time. Pretty impressive considering we all know how much aircooled cars like marking their territory, so to speak.
We dont currently have any paint meter reads but those can be put up before auction end.
in addition, a quick video of that induction noise. Its pretty tough to beat properly tuned pmo's for their induction noise in a street car as youve got to admit. https://www.instagram.com/p/C7zFFyxsmgZ/
@ndnbill Being that this car does not retain its stock fuel injection system, it is unfortunately not CA emissions compliant. This would be an incredible cross country drive, maybe a montana registration is in its future? haha.
Bid in the amount of $2,911
Does the car still retain its emission control equipment and has it passed any state's inspection since rebuild? Thanks, I am in CA and would love to drive this home.
Thank you!
to confirm all the seals are original??
Any paint meter readings?
Start up video to hear that great note??
last oil/ filter change?
Date on tires?
ANY fluid leaks?
ANY items not working?
Thanks for info!
@jlsiegel The respray was done over 25 years ago, and was windows out. there is no exterior evidence of it or overspray telltales whatsoever. All the window and top seals are in excellent condition, this is a vehicle that did not spend time stored outdoors at all and is watertight as a targa can be. The Targa top exterior vinyl and headliner were replaced in 2005.
Bid in the amount of $1,979
@DonnieG The previous owner absolutely fell in love with a 27K mile 1972 targa we had, so we took this in as partial trade. We're glad you got to drive this car, its truly a very well put together SC, its difficult to describe how well it drives otherwise.
Greetings
Please tell me more about "new paint", when?, windows out?, how extensive?, cost?
Targa top condition?, body seals/ doors etc / targa seals? leaks?
Thanks
I have seen and driven in this car when the long-term owner had it for sale, nice car. This car just sold off of PCA marketplace, can I ask why the quick sale from the seller?
I have a 78 coupe in Talbot yellow and this rare color garners so much attention. PCA rates the color as 4 cans ( 5 cans is reserved for special order colors) so it is exceeding rare. Has a softer and richer tone than speed yellow. Looks like a well cared for targa that will make the new owner exceeding happy.
Hi guys,We’ve done classic cars for 45 years and this is a special car. The car is all original except for new paint and mechanical upgrades. It still has the matching engine and tranny. The mechanical parts are all new however the interior and everything else is original. It needs nothing and has every record since new including original bill of sale and window sticker. You can bid with confidence. Thank you,
