A tribute to the iconic 911 RSR and ST racing cars, this painstakingly crafted 1979 Porsche 911SC was acquired by the seller in August 2022 and underwent a nearly year-long restoration and customization process. It had been under the care of its previous owner for nearly 15 years during which time the transmission was rebuilt and the engine was upgraded to a 3.2L displacement with increased compression using Moritz-specification pistons and cylinders, PMO carburetors, and a 964 cam grind by Joe Dougherty. With work carried out by the seller and KMW Motorsports in South Florida, this example received a glass-out refinish in Stone Grey along with the installation of 930-style fender flares, custom BBS E50 magnesium-centered heritage Porsche racing wheels, heated Recaro Sportster CS seats in Nappa leather. Created at a total cost of over $153k, this no-compromise RSR tribute is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

This RSR/ST-inspired example has undergone a glass-out refinish in Stone Grey (5710), a color harking back to 50s and 60s Porsches and recently added to Porsche’s Paint-to-Sample catalog. The bodywork comes complete with TRE Motorsports welded steel Dansk 930 fender flares, 930-style fiberglass bumpers, and steel backdate signal boxes. Additional details include a GT Racing glass long-hood and a GT Racing ST rear glass engine cover with ST stainless steel hinges. Complementing the widened stance are custom BBS E50 original magnesium wheels rebuilt with new BBS barrels, hardware, and gaskets. All rubber seals and windshield glass have been replaced as part of the restoration. Other custom appointments include Porsche vintage gold lettering on the rear deck lid, matte black drilled door handles from Rose Passion, black horn grilles, and Achtung Kraft black bullet mirrors with flag mount. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The entirely custom blacked-out interior has been equipped with heated Recaro Sportster CS seats trimmed in Nappa leather, CarBone Nappa leather door cards with classic quilted stitching, and E3Customs door toppers refinished with a fresh coating. Additional equipment includes a MOMO Mod 07 deep-concave leather steering wheel, A Function First Performance black-finished anodized shift knob with a Wevo shifter, and several Rennline details including the lower dashboard, a magnetic phone mount, ignition cover, floor mats, and AC controls. The audio system has been upgraded with new speakers hidden within the door cards and a Porsche Classic Communication system with Apple CarPlay. A Midland GMRS handheld radio has also been installed. Creature comforts are supplied by a new air conditioning system, fitted with electric air from Classic Retrofit UK featuring a high output 175-amp performance alternator and a Clewett Engineering Serpentine fan belt conversion kit from Pelican Parts.

The flat-six engine has been rebuilt to achieve a 3.2L displacement and features a Mahle conversion with 98mm Max Moritz-specification pistons and cylinders with a 9.3 compression ratio, a Joe Dougherty 964 cam grind, and a Fidanza aluminum flywheel. A Patrick Motorsports 46mm PMO Carburetor package has also been equipped, along with SSI headers crafted in T304 stainless steel and a GT3-style M&K center-outlet muffler with dual-exhaust tailpipes. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio 5-speed 915 transmission rebuilt by Gary Fairbanks, featuring a Patrick Motorsports SACS pressure plate & clutch. An MSD 6al ignition with MSH coils has been added, and suspension features include hollow torsion bars along with Bilstein HD Rear shocks and turbo tie-rods from Elephant Racing. The seller notes the gas tank and front tank support were replaced under previous ownership in 2010. Additionally, the gas tank has been completely stripped, boiled, recoated, and sealed. The seller adds that extensive service history documents and invoices of the build will accompany the sale.

The seller would like you to know: This 79 Outlaw has to be the most fun air-cooled 911 I have ever owned. It's right in the sweet spot between raw and refined and is just enamoring to drive. The 3.2L just rips, and I have taken it on only 2 extensive Saturday morning drives since completion, one of which was 250 miles.  My brother and I built this car over the last 10 months with the help of the entire team at KMW Motorsports in South Florida. The 3.2L short stroke with 964 cam grind and 46mm PMO carbs has a ton of get-up-and-go pep and is surprisingly smooth for highway driving. The new widened front and rear tracks truly give the car an incredibly planted stance and you can really feel the difference in handling. Probably my absolute favorite element is the intoxicating M&K GT3-style exhaust.”

@jscaliajr Joe driving beside you in this outlaw has also been a pleasure, thanks for the warm words!

  • mjsailing (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Watching this build from start to finish was fun. @ modificaclassica made all the right changes and it shows. The shop that built the car supports an independent one car IMSA TCR team and quite a few Porsche racing operations for HSR, Club Racing and other series. This Porsche is done right.

Been behind this car on a breakfast run to the FL Keys and can confirm it sounds just as good as it looks, amazing!

  • jscaliajr 1 year, 6 monthsago

This car is a show stopper. I’ve been on the air-cooled rides and couldn’t resist taking rollers of it; the stance, the subtleties, it’s all there.
Learning about the build makes it all-the-more special. I use KMW for my 84 Turbo Slant as well so I know this car has been handled with the right expertise. The next owner is going to have a super special specimen with a great pedigree.

@Number1_dog Jack thanks for chiming in! You delivered a fantastic starting point for the car, and I'm so happy you loved what we did with the car, it literally breaks necks everywhere it goes.

  • modificaclassica (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Guys just to clarify, the motor itself has seen approximately 8,000 miles with regular scheduled maintenance since being rebuilt by the previous owner, who is an active PCA member. I have only done 2 ACBC (air-cooled breakfast crew) drives here in South Florida since finishing the car...once to Everglades City and once to Key Largo. The third time driving the car for the photoshoot a couple weeks ago around Miami. This outlaw is a true ripper, super fun and lightweight feeling, especially when compared with other later G-body Carrera 911s.

I am the previous owner of this car having owned it from March 2007 through June 2022. I am so happy to see her gaining a new lease on life. Modifica Classical has done such a fantastic job.

I think this is my dream Porsche.
    Very well done, congratulations
Already outside my budget and I’m sure it’s only gonna go up from here
    Good luck all

@Rabrsr32 I showed the car to Bill yesterday and went for a spin. Interestingly, he has a narrow body 71 with a 3.2L and said they feel similar, although mine looks like it's on steroids compared to his. If you still want to see it this week just DM me here and will arrange.

  • modificaclassica (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Rabrsr32 yes of course, just message me directly on IG @modificaclassica and I am happy to show you the car.

I live in Boca Raton, and KMW works on my car. Possible to see the car?

  • modificaclassica (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@esmeralda honestly, the stone grey feels quite at home parked next to Esmeralda ;) something about the warm grey beside that deep green speaks to me.

  • modificaclassica (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@BoxsterBlues estimated at 160-180hp if I had to guess, it’s just so incredibly light, and the 3.2L conversion and flywheel, new pistons and cylinders just make it feel like it’s got a ton of get up and go pep. Cruising with my air cooled crew down to key largo, for example on cardsound rd, it’s just so so fun even while obeying the speed limits. ;)

Beautiful build ! Very tastefully executed. Any idea as to the horsepower at the wheels for this car ?
    Thanks.
