The Porsche 911SC was offered between 1978 and 1983 with the name ‘Super Carrera,” powered by a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine. Formerly a California car, this SC was acquired by the previous owner about 7 years ago and benefits from a full refinish in its factory Black paint along with several tasteful modifications. This 1979 Porsche 911SC is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington.
This Coupe has been refinished in its factory Black paint color and equipped with recessed front fog lamps, 993 exterior mirrors, a 964 rear deck lid with an electric switch-operated rear spoiler, and body-color window trim for a monochromatic appearance. A set of aftermarket Cup II-style wheels are also fitted with a mixed set of older tires.
The cabin presents Black leather upholstery with optional Sport Seats. A MOMO steering wheel has been installed along with an aftermarket shifter and aluminum pedals. The seller adds that a new dash cover has been installed and the left door insert shows minor signs of wear as expected with age. All gauges and electronics are reported to be working properly.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter flat-six engine, sending up to 180 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. An aftermarket exhaust system has been installed although it is stated to sound stock. The seller would like to add that the engine and transmission numbers are correct for this vehicle’s production era, although no Certificate of Authenticity is available to confirm their originality. While a limited service history accompanies the vehicle, the latest oil change is said to have been carried out in October 2022.
This sale will include a clean title.

That's a solid deal. Fair price for both buyer and seller. Nice to see market corrections aren't limited to the housing and banking industries.
Congrats @Redhun !!

It’s too bad this car won’t pass California smog. It’s a handsome Porsche. In my opinion.
I miss my air, cooled Porsches.
Good luck all

@2mAn i unfortunately dont know who manufactured the shifter or exhaust. It is not SSI. The wing deploys via a switch, no speed sensor. The lights appear to be mounted to the reverse side if the valance. (Hard to see) I would venture a guess that the valance is made that way(aftermarket naturally) but really well done. (The valance is not simply drilled, it is molded and Frenched)
@porscheklaus What exactly is the 'aftermarket' shifter setup, WEVO ?
What exactly is the 'aftermarket' exhaust setup this one has?
Does the 964 wing automatically deploy or is it only via a switch?
How are the fog lights mounted? In front of the valence ...or...?

@SneakerDoug Sneaker, I have no reason or suspicions to go through the trouble. The car starts and runs flawlessly both cold and warm. Idle is perfecty smooth. There is NO smoke on initial start either cold or warm. Oil pressure is EXCELLENT and comes up instantly. There is no idle speed fluctution.
The paintwork on the car is really quite good, the windshield seal is certainly new, leaving me to believe yes . Please refer to the cars description however, in that all window trim has been painted body color for what I will guess was a desired "monochromium"look. I wasn't sure how I felt about it initially but, rather like it.
Thanks
Do you have results from a recent leak down/compression test you could share with us?
Any idea if the respray was engine out windows out?
@P-Unit good question. Installed by a very well known and respected upholsterer here in town, not sure.
It's says the dash cover has been replaced..
Is this one of those glue on dash caps?
@Oddestball If you are referring to California emissions tests, I've been through the ringer on this. A basic after market exhaust like a Dansk setup will be a failure. Not having the catalytic converter or an aftermarket one, will be an automatic failure. Missing an EGR valve, evap system, or PCV valve all are failures on the visual side. The tailpipe emissions, which you would think would be all they needed to test, is the least of problems, as the older cars have a lower threshold.
@porscheklaus why not specifically
@IX_XII_Lvr sorry, got a little side tracked on the tire sizes. Fronts are 205/55/16 rears are 225/50/16. Hopes that answers your question.
@sportscarguy3 sorry no.
Will this Porsche pass California Smog emissions as is ? ( modified exhaust )
If not, do you have factory exhaust ?
Bid in the amount of $30,000
@larrygk If you are referring to the smog in California, I'd beg to differ. While the state regulates Americans to the hilt, they seem to have no issues with cars and trucks from south of the border billowing black plumes into the air. Most folks with collector cars take good enough care if their cars that this isn't an issue without excessive requirements.
@porscheklaus They can be ridiculous but having lived here since 1974 when the smog hung in the sky like a yellow brown blanket and burned the eyes and lungs, we've come a long way and this is one of those ways.
@IX_XII_Lvr 16". Ill give you prppwr sizes in the morning ?
What size are the wheels/tires? They look great on the car.

@GT3forme hydraulic tensioners, stock suspension, ac does not function (never did when new ?) no rust, asked and answered on the matching numbers.... most likely.
Nice car.
Has the chain tensioners being installed?
Any upgrades to the suspension?
Matching numbers?
AC working?
Rust?
Bid in the amount of $5,911
@IX_XII_Lvr I think it could end up being a bit pricey. I know California's emmision standards are ridiculous. Thanks, I think its a neat car as well. Just different enough... the deck lid for example. Ive never seen that done, cleaver.
@porscheklaus In your opinion, would it be a monumental task to make this car smog ready for California? Really like the car, just concerned over getting into something with the potential to get massively expensive depending on what was done when the smog equipment was removed. Thanks.
@IX_XII_Lvr No. Washington State no longer requires emissions testing. Great question though for those who may live there. Thanks.
Being that it was originally a California car, does it still have the catalytic converter and smog emissions equipment intact?
I've been asked to add a few more photos. I font have a lift so.... pans are solid. The front floors have been sound insulated, nice touch. I am not going to the battery out (you no why ?) but the battery tray and floor are rust free. I was also asked for an engine number # 6312846
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@larrygk The COA can be had it has just never been ordered. Unfortunately few maint records exist as they were not asked for at time of last sale. :(
Like this a lot. Newport certainly had/has the customers. So just inquiring for my knowledge why COA can't be gotten through Porsche. Also what maintenance do you know of in say the last 5 years? Thanks and GLWA. Love the wheels.

Good morning and thanks for taking the time to look at this very nice 911SC. I personally started working for Porsche in 1978 at a little place in Newport Beach, Ca. Yes, that dates me... it has also given me lots of opportunities to drive many, many 911's. I own an '82 as a personal car. I must admit, this one runs a bit better.... nice car. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again.
