Available for auction is this 1979 MG MGB finished in the traditional combination of British Racing Green over a tan interior. The MGB was released in 1962 to satisfy the demand for a more modern and comfortable roadster and saw many refinements over the course of its production ending in 1980. This 1979 example is said to have been purchased by the seller in 2016 and has since been driven only during summer months and treated to regular maintenance while always being garage-kept. With just over 36k miles showing on the odometer, this classic MGB is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts.
This MG is finished in British Racing Green and features a tan soft top, black rubber bumpers, and chrome trim. The original color of the car is noted to have been brown and the seller reports a few scratches throughout the exterior and a small area of rust visible on the right rear quarter panel. A small crack is also noted on the left plastic window panel of the convertible top, additional images are provided in the photo gallery. Midway through 1974, all U.S market MGB’s came equipped with black safety bumpers and 1” taller springs to meet DOT regulations. This MGB rides on a set of 14″ Rostyle wheels dressed in a set of Lexington tires.
The cabin is trimmed in tan vinyl with a black dashboard, carpeting, and center console. An upgraded wood-rimmed steering wheel has been installed along with an aftermarket stereo. A tear is depicted at the base of the driver’s seat and the seller adds that all gauges and lights function properly.
Power comes from a 1.8L B-series inline 4-cylinder engine that produces up to 63HP and 88lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. This MGB is said to have been regularly maintained under the current ownership having received a rebuilt clutch within the last 3 years, a new battery within the last year, new belts within the last month, and routine oil changes every spring and fall.
This sale will include a clean title. Providing a tremendous value for any driving enthusiast in search of a classic two-seater roadster, this MGB is not to be overlooked.
