Introduced in 1971 and produced through 1987, the Rolls-Royce Corniche I was named after the picturesque Grand Corniche roads of the French Cote d'Azur, and featured a 6.75-liter V8 engine paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. This 1978 example was delivered to its original long-term owner in St. Louis, Missouri, and factory-ordered in Masons Black over tan leather with a matching tan soft top and deep fawn carpeting. Equipment includes hydropneumatic suspension, air conditioning, and a suite of power-operated features. Benefiting from consistent upkeep, recent mechanical refurbishments, and cosmetic enhancements, this Corniche is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida with approximately 33k miles showing on the odometer.

Specified in Masons Black, this example has since been refinished and features a tan soft top with a matching leather tonneau cover. Exterior details include body-color bumpers and wheel arches, chrome side mirrors and door handles, and a chrome beltline accenting the body sides. It rides on factory 15” wheels with model-specific wheel covers wrapped in Nexen whitewall tires mounted in 2022. The seller reports the body remains straight and free of rust or corrosion, with the chrome and stainless trim in excellent condition throughout. While the repaint is older and shows minor imperfections, it was performed to a high standard and still presents well. Recent exterior service includes repairs to the exhaust system, replacement of various exterior bulbs, and installation of a new convertible top motor assembly. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the cabin features tan leather upholstery with redyed front seats and refinished wood veneer trim, including a restored dashboard fascia. The factory 8-track player has been removed and replaced with a velvet-lined storage compartment, while a custom veneered cup holder and storage bin have been added to the center console. Additional updates include a remote central locking system, which is reported to function properly. The seller reports the interior remains in excellent condition overall, free from the common issues typically seen in this model, and the convertible top’s deep fawn headliner is in impressive condition. The cruise control is inoperative, though all other gauges, lighting, and electrical systems are functional, with no warning lights illuminated.

Power comes from a 6.75-liter V8 engine, which delivers a factory-rated 218 HP and 398 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine is reported to start promptly, idle smoothly, and maintain proper operating temperature. Recent mechanical service includes replacement of the brake accumulators and pump valve, steering rack, ignition switch, and starter, along with brake hydraulic service and a full tune-up with new spark plugs and air filter. The air conditioning system was converted to R134a and recharged, with a new A/C line installed. The fuel system received a thorough cleaning, including the fuel tank, hoses, and carburetors. Additional work included repacking the front wheel bearings, adjusting the engine idle, and repairing the hood latch mechanism. Recent service by the seller included oil and filter changes, instrument panel bulb replacements, drive belt adjustments, coolant and brake fluid service, A/C blower motor wiring repair, and center vent repair. The seller reports the car drives smoothly and has been driven over 200 miles without issue.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a leather convertible top boot, two keys with door lock remotes, four lambswool rugs, a copy of the original window sticker, and build documentation and service records.

The seller would like you to know: “This is an excellent turn key Corniche that is ready to be enjoyed daily. We have driven it approx 400 miles since servicing it and has performed flawlessly.”

@Wdk57 we did not have it made. It was built by one of the previous owners. It does lift out and can be removed easily.

I would very much like to know where the seller had the center console cup holder made. I have a 78 Wraith II and would love to have one made.

Pedigree is top-notch. I’ve bought and sold cars with Ken, and he’s a trustworthy person. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this Corniche if I didn’t already have one. Good luck with the auction; it’s a beautiful car!
