One of 1,139 examples imported to the U.S. for the model year, this 1978 Porsche 928 is finished in Grand Prix White over a rare Green leatherette interior with Pascha velour inserts. It features a fuel-injected 4.5-liter V8 engine, a 5-speed manual transaxle, a limited-slip differential, an aftermarket ANSA exhaust system, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, cruise control, air conditioning, 16” phone dial alloy wheels, pop-up headlamps, and a rear window wiper. This 928 was listed for auction on PCARMARKET in 2022 and was acquired by the seller in 2024. Having since undergone a host of services, including an oil change, a new battery, new belts, transmission work, and wheel refinishing, this early non-sunroof 928 is now being offered for auction out of Georgia with approximately 35k miles showing on the odometer. Click here to view the previous PCARMARKET listing.
The exterior is finished in Grand Prix White and features pop-up headlights, headlamp washers, fog lights, dual power mirrors, a rear window wiper, dual exhaust tips, and 16” phone dial alloy wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Exalto tires from 2020. The wheels were refinished in 2024, and the hood and rear hatch struts have been recently replaced. The seller notes that the right rear quarter panel was refinished under previous ownership, and the exterior is in very good driver-quality condition. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The four-seater interior is appointed with Green leatherette upholstery, a matching headliner, carpets, and Pascha velour inserts on the seat centers and door panels. Accessories include manually adjustable front bucket seats, a black leather three-spoke steering wheel, power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, 928-logo door sills, rear passenger sun visors, a locking storage compartment, and a Porsche-Blaupunkt stereo. The seller notes the cassette tape deck is inoperable, however, all other accessories are fully functional.
The fuel-injected 4.5-liter V8 engine was factory-rated at 219 HP and 245 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle and an optional limited-slip differential. Service completed under previous ownership in September of 2021 included replacing the water pump, timing belt, breather hose, air filter, and thermostat. Since the seller’s purchase in 2024, the car has also been serviced with a new battery, alternator and power steering belts, 1st and 2nd gear synchros, transmission seals, wiper blades, new CV boots, an oil change, and a wheel alignment.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, service records, a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “The year is 1978, and the newly released Porsche 928 is turning heads with every passing. In lieu of the 911 being the poster child, the 928 was destined to be the flagship of the company, starting in the mid-$30k range. (For reference, that's over $10k higher than the 911 in the same year and nearly $170,000 in today's money). This specific example features 3 pedals, four usable seats, enough room for luggage, and that oh-so-period correct Pascha-trimmed cabin. It really is poised to be the ultimate retro Grand Tourer.”

@wanna123 As previously mentioned thats a dash-cap, not a substandard repair. It's removable if you ever don't want it on the car but for now it at least protects the dash from UV exposure.
Thanks to those who have reached out so far and those who have seen the car in-person. As we mentioned in our opening comment (which we'll redirect to as needed), we've spent $20k ensuring this 928 can be driven as intended and trusted just the same. As a reminder, we're around as need to answer questions or concerns.

Wow that dash. I remember this car being listed elsewhere love the color combo.
Question, any quotes on having dash recovered or? Any other spots of interior with substandard repairs as non are visible in pics.
Thanks!
@ PCM & Vendor: Thank you for removing my name and address from the listing.

That’s good to know there’s another trusted one in ATL. Many don’t realize that the quickest way to screw up a good 928 is take it to a Porsche mechanic (as opposed to a 928 specialist).

@IslaTurbine Checkpoint Auto has been around since the beginning of time with older classic Porsches here in Atlanta... Beal Hardy (the owner) used to be in Marietta not far from the dealership for 20+ years and has since sized down in North Georgia. He's a wizard at his craft and a true 'feel' mechanic versus a lot of these newer shops simply relying on Durametric scanners and OBD2... ;-) From personal experience spending seat time in this car, the inputs and outputs (both up and down) are exactly as one would want.
@nickg325 thanks.
I was hoping to see Howard Wright’s name on an invoice. He and Greg Brown are the two big names in 928 transmissions and Howard is located on the northeast side of ATL.
@IslaTurbine looks like photo 380.

Good morning PCar enthusiasts and welcome to our very cool and VERY fun 928 auction. We acquired the car early last year as something to check off our list and enjoy. in 2021 the car received a timing belt, water pump, and A/C service. Once we got the car home we proceeded to have it gone-through to ensure it delivers the driving experience we expect from a 70's GT. With considerable money spent (nearly $20k), it's ready to be driven and actually enjoyed rather than purchased and placed into service for months at a time. Re the dashboard, we really wanted to keep the previous cracks from spreading so the added green piece you're seeing is a non-permanent cap. It can easily be removed by the next owner. Altogether it's a clean car without rust or body issues that delivers the experience. It may not score perfectly at a concours event but you'll be smiling ear to ear while rowing gears and listening to the Ansa exhaust tone. We've uploaded a THOROUGH video that shows a comprehensive walk around and lengthy driving segment. Underside photos are included in the gallery but if we've missed something PLEASE let us know, we'll be happy to show anything needed. For those considering seeing the car in-person, we're located in Atlanta GA and about 30 minutes from the airport. We'll be happy to schedule showings by appointment. Good luck to those interested and remember, every car isn't for every person but we are all here as enthusiasts from all walks. Be kind, be respectful, and enjoy 300+ photos of one of the most iconic cars of the 70's and 80's that drives as good as it looks.
@seller
Who performed the transmission work? Apologies if I missed it in the provided documentation.

@DPommery Looks like there were a couple cracks on the dash in the last auction gallery that the current owner wanted to cover. I would have left it personally, that "new" vinyl doesn't even look remotely close and who knows what they did to adhere it to the old stuff. My guess is now taking that off would make a whole new problem.
What's the story with the multiple colors of the dashboard?

I owned this car for several years. Remove my details from this auction. It's not an option.
