Up for auction is this modified 1978 Porsche 911 SC Targa finished in White over a custom black interior. Remaining entirely street legal while fully equipped to take on the track, this 1978 example features lightweight fiberglass RS bumpers, a custom roll cage and Bilstein coil over suspension as well as an upgraded 3.0 L flat-six engine. Having had its engine and transmission rebuilt within the last 10k miles, this driver-oriented SC Targa is now being offered in excellent running order by its seller in New York.
This Targa is said to have been completely refinished in White after being fitted with fiberglass RS-style front and rear bumpers, a lightweight fiberglass front hood and a whale-tail style rear decklid. The paint is noted to be in good condition with some typical track-going wear (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Noteworthy details include a traditional Targa bar in black, H4 headlights with chrome bezels and 17” Cup-style wheels which come dressed in Kumho Ecsta tires. This sale will also include a set of $3,300 Kinesis K27 wheels in black with Hoosier tires.
The black interior has been customized with an Alcantara reupholstered dashboard, RS carpeting, RS-style door cards, a custom roll cage and Momo Mod 07 steering wheel with quick-release hub. Other modifications include Sparco Rev II fixed bucket seats, G-Force 4-point harnesses, aluminum pedals and a push-to-start ignition. The cabin is reported to be in great shape with all gauges and accessories working properly except for the air conditioning and heat.
Power comes from an air cooled 3.0 L flat-six engine which was rebuilt by Provost Motorsports of New Jersey in 2017 with approximately 10k miles added since. The rear wheels are driven by way of a rebuilt 5-speed 915 manual transmission with a short shifter and limited slip differential. Performance upgrades include:
An engine oil change was performed in August of 2020 as well as a full vehicle inspection at Rennsport Automotive in Bedford Hills, NY. The seller also states that the car has been corner-balanced and that the brake fluid has been flushed and the pads replaced within the past 5k miles at Speed Sport Tuning of Danbury CT. This 911 is reported to be in excellent running order.
The sale of this Targa will include service records and additional Kinesis wheels. If you are in the market for a driver-oriented air cooled Porsche, this tastefully upgraded SC is not to be missed.

@Tmp Correct. The previous owner had done a race 3.0 then under my ownership when I first purchased the car the motor was replaced with a 3.0 SC motor stock internals, upgraded throttle body, custom made race headers, sport muffler and carrera chain tensioner.
@JulianM Just to double check I’m inferring correctly, the current 3.0L is not the original motor to the car?
@Tmp Great Thanks!
@JulianM Thanks, I’ll check out and let you know if I have any questions.
@Tmp Please see the photo gallery for build sheets that were just posted.
@Tmp I just sent in a bunch of the build sheet documents they should be up shortly! Please feel free to reach out with any other questions.

Ah my first track car. I was the owner 2 generations ago and she always ran strong and what a great car to learn on at the track. You have done a great job making her look so good! Good luck with the sale
@Tmp , Hi thanks for your questions! The car has a 3.0 SC motor stock internals, upgraded throttle body, custom made race headers, sport muffler.
I have a car build sheet that was given to me by the previous owner. I also had a full Targa restoration done under my ownership.
