Marking the inaugural model year of the Porsche 911SC, this 1978 Targa comes finished in White over a custom black interior with Alcantara, Sparco racing seats, and a half roll cage. The car is said to have been previously optimized for track use and was campaigned briefly before being converted back to road use in 2017 with subsequent rebuilds of the engine and gearbox. An ideal air-cooled driver’s car with several notable modifications, this 911SC was previously listed on PCARMARKET and is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Pennsylvania showing approximately 151k miles on the odometer.
This Targa comes finished in White with a removable black roof panel, custom bumpers, and Turbo Whale Tail spoiler. The rocker covers have been removed, the brake lights have been updated, and the headlights have been tinted yellow and paired with black rings. The aftermarket Fuchs wheels come dressed in two-year-old Yokohama tires and the seller notes some chips on the hood and driver side door, detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The black interior features a custom Alcantara-wrapped dashboard along with a pair of Sparco bucket seats, four-point harnesses, and a half roll cage. Other additions include RS-style door panels, a quick-release Momo steering wheel, a Rennline floorboard, OMP pedals, a kill switch, and custom dash controls. The rear seats and center console have been removed and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.
The air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine produces up to 180 HP and drives the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. A custom dual exhaust has been fitted along with an oil cooler located behind the front bumper. Upgrades noted during the previous PCARMARKET listing included a Bilstein coilover suspension, monoball bushings, Tarett sway bar, a short shifter, and a limited-slip differential. The seller reports both the engine and transmission were been rebuilt in 2017.
This sale will include a clean title (lien).

@Havenhearth unfortunately not. The car has been driven very minimal miles since I bought it and I was told the same thing before I purchased it. I don’t think it’s had even 10,000 miles put on it since the rebuild. And no the car doesn’t have any additional items with the sale.

Is there a record of the mileage since the engine and transmission rebuild?
Are there any spare bits with the car?
Thanks for your assistance,
David
@Userapatel both AC and heating systems were removed for weight savings. The fan/defroster still works up against the windshield.
@Userapatel guessing the system was removed based on its history as a track car
Anything information on on the status of the AC?

@SZ504 @Simonzar I have never driven it in the rain. It has been garage kept for my entire ownership. And I am selling it along with 2 of my other vehicles because I am trying to start a family and need to free up some finances. I really don’t want to part with this car, as it is my favorite but better things are coming along the way. This car is such a blast to drive and the next owner will definitely enjoy it!
Do you have leaks with the targa top?
May I also ask why you are selling this after buying it last year ?
Bid in the amount of $1,000
@Bruce914 this car is incredibly fun to drive. I can only imagine how fun it would be to drive it on the canyon roads out in California. Good luck!
@sdm100 that’s awesome. The car still runs and drives strong. I have had a blast driving it on the Pennsylvania back roads. This car is such a head turner. From the first day I drove it around, I got so many comments and attention from other motorists. The white color really makes it stand out and the targa top makes for a perfect open air driving experience. Such a beautiful car. I’m glad you got a lot of enjoyment out of the car and I hope the next owner does as well.
What a fun car - unfortunately in Calif it needs a CAT on there, and no long tube headers, ugh. Would love to own this, checking with relatives out of state for an address to use.
@Nwhatule ....bought car about 10 years ago as I started doing PCA DE events. Was a hideous blue color with horrible blue seats. Engine was strong as was transmission. Painted it white did some suspension work as well as exhaust. New seats and belts nd dash/pedal mods. Moved up the ranks to solo white/blue so got into a Cayman S Guy I sold it to did some engine and additional suspension work and got it to go even better on he track.saw the car last year looks like it was modified back for street use. If I had to guess car was a track car for spring-fall for about 9 years. Still have a pic of me in that car on my wall.
@sdm100 Wow this is incredible. I would love any information you have on the vehicle. Do you have any records of achievements you accomplished with the car while you tracked it? Or any documentation on the vehicle?
Wow my original track car comes back to light…campaigned her throughout New England. Seems like they have put back the whale tail, new wheels etc. when I had her it was a dedicated track car, like a gocart with a Porsche engine. I know it’s mine because all the dash mods were done by me. Good luck with the sale
@Nwhatule thanks for the info. The actual date on the belts would help clearly indicate how long it’s been since the car was tracked.
@porschebf Hello! I have only owned the vehicle for about a year so I only have one recent service, and I do have the receipt for that. I do not know how long it was tracked for I presume not very long because the milage of the car is pretty average. And I believe the belts were changed in 2017 when the engine and transmission were rebuilt.
Nice car! What have you done to the car during your ownership ? Receipts ?
Considering the track equipment on the car - how long exactly was the car tracked ? Do you know the dates on the belts ?
Thanks & good luck with the auction.
@Jp4272 welcome! I have owned the vehicle for about a year, I purchased it last June. The car did not come with any rebuild documentation, but my mechanic confirms that the car runs and drives perfectly and the transmission shifts are excellent!
How long have you owned this car? Do you you have any documentation on the engine & trans rebuild?
Hello everyone! Welcome to the auction of my 1978 911 Targa. This is a fantastic car and has been an absolute joy to own. This is the perfect car for cruising the open country roads or taking to historic races for classic cars. I hope the next owner of this car finds as much enjoyment in it as I have.
