This 1978 Porsche 911SC Coupe was purchased new by the seller’s father from Interlake Porsche/Audi of Bellevue, Washington. It came factory-finished in the rare Paint to Sample color of Anthracite Metallic over a Black interior and features optional leather Sport Seats, a limited-slip differential, cruise control, headlamp washers, and a black headliner. The seller assumed custodianship of this 911SC over 30 years ago, and it has been meticulously maintained ever since, earning second place in the Unrestored Classic class at the 2024 San Marino Exotic Car Show. The car benefits from an overhauled 5-speed manual transaxle, replacement head studs, a hydraulic chain tensioner kit, and new front brakes and rear brake pads. Accompanied by the original window sticker and documentation dating to the initial sales date, this one-family-owned 911SC Coupe is now being offered for auction out of California with less than 59k miles showing on the odometer.
This 911SC Coupe was special ordered in Anthracite Metallic (635), a rare Paint to Sample option from BMW’s color palette. It features H4 headlights, optional headlamp washers, front fog lights, an electric antenna, a heated power mirror, an optional electric sunroof. The car rides on 16” Fuchs alloy wheels with new Yokohama Advan Sport A/S+ tires mounted about two years ago. The seller indicates the car has always been garage-kept and hand-washed. Apart from the headlight rings, which were recently refinished, the paint is reportedly entirely original. The taillight lenses and hood struts were recently replaced, along with the rubber seals for the doors, trunk, decklid, and front bumper. Noted imperfections include a small polishing blemish on the roof and rock chips on the lower front valance. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The Black interior features optional full leather Sport Seats, a black headliner, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, power windows, cruise control, air conditioning, a quartz clock, new Lloyds floor mats, and an aftermarket Pioneer head unit. The interior is described to be very well preserved, with all gauges and accessories operational, although the original air conditioning system does not blow cold.
The car’s air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine was factory-rated at 180 HP and 175 lb-ft of torque. The seller notes the head studs have been replaced, an oil-fed Carrera chain tensioner kit has been installed, and the original catalytic converter has been removed and is included in the sale. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Type 915 manual transaxle and an optional limited-slip differential. The transmission ring and pinion were replaced in December 2022, including all pinion shaft bearings, input bearings, and various small components. The front brake calipers, rotors, pads, hoses, and rear brake pads were replaced in April 2025.
This sale will include the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a tire inflator, a car cover, a battery trickle charger, the original catalytic converter, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a family heirloom that I will have a hard time letting go. It has always been a joy to drive. It still drives like new. The compliments I get at Porsche events and car shows are remarkable. I have had the opportunity to put it in a number of period-type television shows in recent years, and that's how good it looks. But it is ready to go to a new owner who will give it much love and enjoy the curves and driving pleasure that my father and I have enjoyed since new.”

Bidders:
I personally had this car inspected by an experienced Porsche specialist in CA. The only reason it's listed here and not in my garage is that I had JUST bought a 964, and a third 911 with two having been bought back-to-back, is a tough sell at home, and I hate sleeping on the couch!
This car is in excellent mechanical condition, great unique color, and very well cared for inside and out. Drives great, engine is strong, and the gearbox has been properly attended to. Seller addressed the brakes as well. Those concerned about ac - that is something you can change. Original paint, mileage, history, unique factory options you cannot.
Don't let this one go!
@Ryan most recent Dexter Original Sin.
Let's hear about the "period-type television shows" it's been in!
@OldSchool The issue was resolved in 98 with a fuel adjustment. As for the car sitting for long periods I start it and drive it at least a short distance once a month. And of course I wondered where your question was stemming from so I could answer to your question exactly. I did not ask why you were questioning. It was obvious after you rephrased your question you had talked to my mechanic. If you had said upfront why you were asking you would have gotten an upfront answer. I appreciate the due diligence on your part though.
@skylane9 It is something this year of Porsche deals with commonly. There are great after market products to resolve the issue. Your local mechanic would have to diagnose exactly where the issue lies and price from there.
Bid in the amount of $60,500
I reached out to the mechanic in California at Specialized Porsche that rebuilt the 915. Asked him what else might need to be done to get a car that has been sitting for long periods of time back to a driver. One of the things was to address the hot start issue. Then saw from receipt it was an issue as far back as 1998. Your first reaction to my question was not to answer but to ask me why I was asking about a receipt from 1998.
@seller, unfortunately your beautiful 911 would head to Naples and A/C is a must,I wonder what a quality Porsche shop would charge to repair the system so it blows COLD?
@skylane9 Sorry for not answering the AC question. Got so busy taking photos of the receipts and uploading them I forgot to get back to you on that. The AC components are all original. Some time while my father owned the car the seals dried out form none use and it lost all the R12. Being that the car was in Washington state he never cared about the AC after that. After trying to recharge it once myself when R12 was being fazed out in the late 90s, it didn't hold. Since the car was still in Washington still where it rarely gets to hot, I never upgraded to the R134 system. After moving to Cal a few years ago it would have been nice a few times but have not done the swap of components. That is the only thing that needs attention on the car. Depends on where the car ends up someone else might not worry about it also.
@OldSchool No, 2 years ago at Porsche Parade in Palm Springs, when it was about 118 degrees, and after a short stop for fuel, it seamed to get a vapor lock, took about 7 cranks to start back up. Didn't happen again on that week long trip. We took a number of group drives that week and never another issue, and heat was the same all week. Never happened before, hasn't happened since. In the start up video on here it was about 95 degrees when we were taking the photos and videos. Drove it to that location form about a half hour away. As you could see in the video which was taken about 10 mins after arriving at the shoot location, no starting issue. Just one take, no re-takes of the video to get it to start. I had mentioned that instance to my mechanic sometime after the Palm Springs trip if that was an issue to be concerned about, he said not unless it was a continuous problem. It has not been.
I’ll ask it a different way in the last couple years. Have you had a issue with hot starts?
@OldSchool He is an ex porsche dealership mechanic, tops around. Hot start issue from the 1998 receipt?
915 rebuild was by Specialized Porsche in Riverside. Appears to be a highly regarded mechanic. Was the Hot Start issue addressed?
@jacobhorn Thank you, truly one of my favorite colors.
Beautiful SC! I have a '77 911S in the same Anthracite Metallic, a rare color that shifts shades a bit in different lighting conditions, and looks great in all of them. :) Good luck with your sale, the winning bidder will be a lucky person!

JasonA while I would like them - in fairness to all - something like that should be posted by you.
@OldSchool is it possible to post your recipes of all the work?
@OldSchool send me your email address I will send photos of receipts
Ok - how about this part of the request :) - please down load your repair receipts on engine work, replacement struts, transmission ring and pinion shaft work Dec 22, the recent repair receipts for the front brake calipers, rotors, pads, hoses, and rear brake pads you mentioned that were replaced in April 2025. thank you
@OldSchool after re watching the video, right after the point of the dip I up shifted into 2nd, that would cause the look of front end bounce.
@skylane9 after re watching the video, right after the point of the dip I up shifted into 2nd, that would cause the look of front end bounce.
@OldSchool I have not replaced shocks since I have owned it. To me it does not float or have any steering issues. There was a dip in the parking lot where we filmed that might have exaggerated the look of floating. Definitely no dents, must be a reflection. Other photos should confirm that.
Guys thanks for confirming no carfax for one this old. So - I second skylane 9's request. (good catch on the video - I don't see a bump in the road) also is that a dent or reflection in photo 46? Thanks

on your drive video the car seems to float or bounce did you replace the shocks or do they need replaced? please down load your repair receipts on engine work, replacement struts, transmission ring and pinion shaft work Dec 22, the recent repair receipts for the front brake calipers, rotors, pads, hoses, and rear brake pads you mentioned that were replaced in April 2025. thank you
@SJH1985 yes to old, just tried, wouldn't except the less that 17 digit vin, didn't have info on plate and state combo either.
@OldSchool To old to get a carfax, I just tried. Never had a leak down test.
@skylane9 That is where a shop was changing the struts on the boot 20 yrs ago and they let the the corner of it hit on that spot. 2 yrs ago after having a body shop repaint the headlight rings, I got some extra paint from them and did a dab of touch up on that area. Never had any paint to match before then due to nothing had ever been painted on the car before then. The headlight rings were not the originals of course, changed immediately when the car was new by my father, but over time they had rock chips and I gave this shop a chance to earn my business and repaint them. I was thinking at that time to repaint the car but decided that was not in the best interest of the car. Hope that explains.
What a nice, original SC, good year too. This should set a high water mark and be a good indication of the health of the current SC market. GLWTS.
@bhill they updated
@SJH1985 I'll see, if I can I'll post
@PCARMARKET_MODERATOR they miss marked on the write up. It will be changed
@OldSchool I don't think you can get a Carfax for cars this old...
@OldSchool PM ?
Car fax, leak down?, any recent records or name of shop that did PM work please
Bid in the amount of $27,000
The wheel size has been updated.
picture #88 looks like repaint, would you explain?
@seller this an incredibly preserved example, best of luck! It must be a difficult decision to let go.
Just one note, the ad mentioned 15” Fuchs but this has the upgraded 16” version.
Bid in the amount of $25,000
@dsdepew And on the paint, the buff burn on the roof was done by a "very well respected detailer to the stars" here in LA. Won't give his name but is very smooth just discolored. That sort of shows it wasn't repainted there at least.
@dsdepew Thanks for taking a look. I don't have a paint meter reader. Have never even thought about having it checked as I know it has never been painted, other than the head light rings. Car was in my view since I was 16 years old. I will check with the body shop that painted the head light rings to see if they have one and run it over tomorrow and post if they do. Have all the records since I have owned it for past 31 yrs, all from very reputable Porsche shops, and most far as can tell from when my father owned it. Everything that was listed as maintained or repaired, I have records for. Any specific records you are wondering about? Send me an email address and will send photo of it.
Jason, beautiful example. Can you please post paint meter readings and what do you have maintenance record wise?
Here to answer any questions.
