The Porsche 911SC debuted for the 1978 model year with the desire to bring together the strong points of the 911S and 911 Carrera. It features a 5-speed manual gearbox paired with a 3.0-liter flat-six engine. This first-year example is said to have been initially sold in Vancouver, B.C. before being shipped to Toronto in an enclosed trailer approximately 3 years ago and has since been kept as part of a private climate-controlled collection. Refinished in white over tan upholstery, this 911SC is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada while showing approximately 137k kilometers on the odometer.

This example is said to have been refinished in its current white pearl coat under previous ownership. It highlights a sunroof, front fog lights, black-finished exterior mirrors, black bumper bellows, and an aftermarket whale tail spoiler & trunk lid with a silver-finished model designation. The first-year 1978 911SC can be distinguished from the later models by its chrome-plated door handles, headlamp rings, and window surrounds. The 16” Fuchs wheels are dressed in older Pulsar Radial tires. The seller states the original Petrol Blue paint is present in the engine bay and the underside of the hood, and the fitment of the aftermarket trunk lid is not perfect. A small dent is present on the headlight trim, and some scratches are shown on the passenger side door. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with tan vinyl and matching floor mats. An aftermarket radio has been added along with a MOMO steering wheel, and the seller states the factory-correct steering wheel will accompany the sale. Some signs of wear commensurate with age and usage are noted. All gauges and accessories are reported to be working properly although the seller recommends servicing the clock.

This 911SC is powered by an air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine that sends 180 HP and 175 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Stopping power is provided by fixed 2-piston brake calipers with ventilated discs. The seller states this example was regularly serviced prior to the seller's acquisition and a host of documents from 2003 to 2016 will accompany the sale. There are no outstanding maintenance items reported at this time.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “The vehicle was originally sold in Vancouver B.C. and stayed there until I shipped it to Toronto in an enclosed trailer 3 years ago (it was in a private collection). We have the original books and several years of receipts for the car. The underside (not understating) is incredibly clean and original. We have the original factory steering wheel, the car currently has a Porsche Momo steering wheel in it. The PCA-authorized mechanic shop has serviced the car - Response Engineering in Port Perry Ontario - Yarko works on Porsche race cars and vintage restorations. The car was originally Petrol Blue and I have included a pic. The previous owner had it painted pearl coat white, but the plan was to return it to the original. The rear trunk lid and wing are not original (aftermarket I believe), and the fitment is not perfect. Used original deck lids are easily procured, painted, and installed. This is a solid daily driver that you can enjoy or restore with a new interior and paint and away you go.”

  • Renti (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@Farrell93 do you have the original options sticker, or are they documented somewhere?

  • Renti (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

    @1822 , i bought a 79 from canada to CA.
it was missing the air pump & other parts needed for smog inspection. it was a US delivered car originally, so CO2 sticker & Cat are present. needed to lower engine to install air pump + needed to buy the parts.
do you have the original options sticker, or are they documented somewhere?

Can this car be transferred to Buffalo NY and registered in NYS without any issues? I stay in Buffalo NY, I guess Ontario is not too far from here..
Also if you can tell, if at all there was replacement of Transmission fluid under your ownership or previous ownership since it was initially purchased?
    How are the belts etc?
Don't mind these questions, car is immaculate for its age...

@Cattch None at this time. There was a small oil leek but that was solved by switching to a new hex head drain plug so it can be properly tightened. Dry as a bone now (there is a pic included showing the new drain plug).

  • Cattch (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Does the engine show any signs of leaking? Any spots of oil on the ground under the car when parked? Any spots wet that shouldn’t be?

  • Notafan 1 year, 3 monthsago

@Farrell93 yes please. Can you share the details.

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@khan654 Unsure. There are no issues with it mechanically or with the transmission. I can't seem to get the car to make the same noise again, so it may have been the parking brake linkage.

  • khan654 (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@Farrell93 What's the rattling sound when you shift thru gears in your video?

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@Notafan I can put you in touch with the PCA authorized shop that did the car prep for the sale. Yarko at Performance Engineering.

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@Notafan I can help coordinate shipping to Vancouver. Would use the same shipping company that brought it east in an enclosed trailer.

  • Notafan 1 year, 3 monthsago

Also is there a PPI you can share?

  • Notafan 1 year, 3 monthsago

Can you help with transportation to Vancouver?

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@1822 It won't accept the type of video file for some reason (which is odd as I'm sure most people would use an iPhone to take pics and videos of their cars). If you want to direct message me and send me your email address, I will send you the video directly.

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Yes I do have a cold start video. I'll figure out how to upload it.

  • 1822 1 year, 3 monthsago

Thanks. May do that. Do you have a cold start video of it?

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@1822 No I do not. I can arrange for that but unlikely I can have that done before the end of the auction. You can, whoever, speak to Yarko at Performance Engineering about the motor. He's recommended by Porsche Club of America and hence why we take our cars to him. As mentioned earlier, he prepped th acr for sale and can speak to any questions you may have.

  • 1822 1 year, 3 monthsago

Do you have leak down test results on the engine?

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Also, to my knowledge there are no duties to be paid on the car when imported. Just your local state taxes based on value/price.

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@1822 morning. I believe the same 'smog' equipment was used in Canada as required in California in 1978. But I'd suggest you check that to be certain. As far as shipping goes, that's a rather easy proposition as 'vehicle' trucking companies have brokers that take care of all importation requirements (as its rather straight forward). Happy to recommend the company that shipped the car from the coast to Toronto - they were excellent - and Porsche NA uses them to ship all their new cars to shows, auctions and dealers. Surprisingly affordable ($2500 CDN).

  • 1822 1 year, 3 monthsago

Nice looking SC. - I’m seeing a driver car. Anyone knowledgeable about importing a car like this into the US? I’m in California, so our vehicle registration requirements are particularly onerous. TIA for any info.

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@RestoreAndKeep @BiddingIsClosed the car has been maintained under my care by Yarko at Performance Engineering. It has had two oil changes as well as all fluids changed, brakes gone through and overall maintenance and car care twice, even through the car has simply been in dry storage. Most recently 30 days ago (as prep for the sale). The car has never seen rain or snow while I have had it
and has been stored under a car cover in our heated garage. It has had very little kms put on it by me -
perhaps 200 kms. Prior to my ownership it resided in Vancouver and we all know west coast cars really do not have the same rust issues as the rest of the country (hence why I procured it). Happy to take more pics or answer any other questions you may have.

  • RestoreAndKeep (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Can you tell us about springtime care and maintenance please. Brine and salt usage a bit different north of the border.

  • P-Unit (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

    That paint job.... 😬

  • Farrell93 (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Here to answer any questions you may have and I'm happy to help coordinate with your preferred shipping company.
