The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is a quintessential muscle car of the late 1970s, celebrated for its aggressive design, powerful V8 engine, and iconic appearance in Smokey and the Bandit. Powered by a 6.0-liter 400 V8 engine paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission, this 1978 example underwent a comprehensive restoration. It is refinished in Mayan Red over black cloth upholstery and features power steering, front disc brakes, a dual exhaust system with FlowMaster mufflers, 15” “snowflake” wheels, bucket seats, an aftermarket AM/FM cassette player, and more. This beautifully restored Firebird is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas.
The second-generation Firebird Trans Am showcases a redesigned “Coke bottle” shape to improve aerodynamics and performance. As part of its comprehensive restoration, this example was refinished in Mayan Red, complemented by a distinctive “shaker” hood scoop adorned with a “screaming chicken” decal associated with the Trans Am model. It has bold fender flares, a low-profile rear spoiler, and rides on 15 “snowflake” wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The interior is appointed with front bucket seats upholstered in black cloth, complemented by a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. The dashboard fascia is accented with engine-turned aluminum trim, framing a 100-MPH speedometer, tachometer, analog clock, and additional gauges. Notable features include a Formula-style steering wheel, an aftermarket AM cassette player, a locking glovebox, and a passenger-side grab handle. All gauges and electronics are reported to be in proper working order with no warning lights illuminated.
Power comes from a 6.0-liter 400 W72 V8 engine, which delivers a factory-rated 220 HP and 320 lb.-ft of torque to rear wheels through a 3-speed TH350 automatic transmission. It has power steering, a 10-bolt axle with leaf springs and shocks, front disc brakes, a dual exhaust system with FlowMaster mufflers, and front and rear sway bars.
This sale will include a clean title.

no sir I dont I bought from a local dealer and they didnt have anything sorry
Nice clean car. 1978 was a good year. WS6 suspension should have bigger sway bars, which I assume this car has a tighter ratio steering box. It does have the wider 8-inch-wide snowflake wheels, which we all loved. The 8-inch snowflake wheels were a common add-on by owners in the ERA. We all loved them and still do. The exhaust has been changed to delete the Catalytic Converter and put true duals on it. It definitely wakes up the motor. It would have been a nice touch to have the exhaust come out as original with the dual / dual tips. Overall a nice T/A. Does the seller have the original broadcast sheet or other documentation on the car etc. verifying original engine trans etc. Thanks for bring a great car!!
